Its also that Jennings has driven the old Impreza (S12B) for a really long time. That car is physically much bigger then the Mirage and he is used to the the Impreza's high top speed and not being as agile in the technical stages.
Hopefully he'll have some good testing before the Ulster and adapt quickly to the less powerful but more nimble Mirage.

Odložilík here was switching from S12B to Fiesta R5 and he kept saying that Fiesta is a lot easier to drive. When he was complaining about the car handling it was always about the S12 not the Fiesta.

Fiesta R5 of P&B only have mechanical EVO, old chassis.
Yep, still it can be called Fiesta Evo, just like the one Evans used in MC.
Btw, what are the chassis evolutions you mention and when were they homologated?
Hyundai i20 R5 -> 180.000€ + 25.000€ gravel kit
Ford Fiesta R5 -> 183.600€ + 20.500€ gravel kit
It’s great to know that R5’s are getting less expensive. That’s a 15% discount for the Fiesta, from its earlier price. Maybe Skoda and PSA will also cut their cars prices.

Spencer Sport:
It's been a busy few days for us in Ireland, as we prepare for the Ulster Rally that takes place tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday. After arriving on Monday, we carried out an extensive test with Garry Jennings & Rory Kennedy in the Mitsubishi R5.
With almost a full-day's running on closed stretches of road, we were able to run through our programme and get both cars dialled in and set up to deal with the unique character of the Northern Irish asphalt. Garry got to grips with the Mirage and came away from the test very satisfied with progress.
A re-prep of both cars took place yesterday (Wednesday), followed by a brief shakedown and the re-livery of the Mirage in the colours of Garry's sponsors 'Go'. Scrutineering in Derry/Londonderry takes place later today.

After two troubled events (Portugal and Italy), several test sessions and some postponed rally entries, Peugeot Sport got back to WRC2 in Germany, giving Suarez a chance to resume the Academy program.
According to Revista Scratch website (http://www.revistascratch.com/wrc/noticia/peugeot-da-un-paso-atras-la-evolucion-para-sus-r5-no-funciona-33891), the car seen in Germany was a freshly built 208 unit, without the Evo Kit. Apparently, in order to fix the previous cooling problems they’ve made changes on the steering system, creating new reliability issues. As it’s mandatory to use all the Kit parts, the official decision was to not install it anymore and wait for the homologation of a new one.
Having in mind the great work PS did in the previous rally costumers programs, it’s really sad to see them completely lost on the 208 R5 development. This radical option to throw away the Evo Kit also raises some questions: why can private teams use it, some successfully, and PS (through SaintELoc) not? Are those private teams using all the Kit parts or, against the rules, just some of them? When will a new Evo Kit came out?
Peugeot (and Citroen) R5 programs are important in WRC2 and, mostly, on regional and national series. Let’s hope they can fix this mess, once and for all.

I don't know about other private teams, but Peugeot Sport Hungaria / TRT used the full Evo kit on two gravel rounds this season, and both ended in a 6th place finish (mainly due to tyre problems though). On the last round however, Tóth used the old model again, and was beating Herczig with the Fabia R5 until a puncture. But as far as I saw, Ptaszek was using a new Evo car from TRT in Germany...
As far as the steering goes, Yoann Bonato wasn't happy with it after his first rally in the DS3 Evo, because the steering gave back very little info on what the grip was like.

I don't know if Peugeot's program in WRC2 is important or not, but I'm afraid it is a disaster. Their results are even worse than they had in ERC. Craig Breen was at least able to win a few rallies. Meanwhile Suarez is down in the 18th position, even behind such drivers as Ptaszek!

There's a new interview with János Tóth before Rally Košice, and he said some interesting things of the 208: http://www.duen.hu/hirek/celba_erni_az_elen_celba_erni
-they struggled with the car as it reacts very differently to setup changes than the other cars ("nothing works on it the way like on a normal car"), but when Andreucci was called to a test, he started them on a good direction and now the car is good on tarmac;
-this wasn't helped by the fact that few teams race this car, so Peugeot Sport can't give much good info;
-they started using the long ratio, but he feels that you still have to drive the car more like a S2000 and not like a "Gr.A turbo car";
-and finally a quote of the problems: "A car has certain capabilities, and so have engineers. And when a not so good engineer designs the rear suspension, the drivers are not happy... The car is very sensitive to the setup, it takes a long time to find a good one."
RS
8th September 2016, 20:27
Interesting to hear that from a driver.. you can see the car doesn't have the torque of the other R5s and that the rear end is very loose.
br21
9th September 2016, 08:23
For sure it has different engine characteristics than other R5, less torque, so you need to rev it higher. With that I agree. But in my opinion it reacts on setup changes more or less like every other rally or race car. Of course there is totally no setup feedback from Peugeot or Citroen, but that's quite normal, similar with M-Sport, etc. All their base setups are almost useless.
nafpaktos

Br21 can you explain me why the factory doesn't give to the customers the set up of the official drivers?of course it is not always useful since a customer may has different driving style and the conditions maybe are different(and maybe other tyres). i am sure that this data cannot be used from a rival company since theιr car will not responds the same way to setup changes.All the privateers complaining for not taking setup data from the factory teams apart from the basics which is basically zero.

That's an AP4 car.
(...)Similar to cars built in NZ by Force Motorsport. The class is designed for the niche created between R5 and group N in the Asia Pacific area.
The main advantage from AP4 rules (like those of MR or N5) is to allow private teams to build and homologate competitive rally cars at more affordable prices. This way the sport doesn’t get hostage of manus lack of interest and rally costumers can get a wider and cheaper choice.
It’s a shame that in Europe cars like the Mirage R5 (and probably MEM’s future Iriz R5) won’t be allowed to run alongside similar cars made by manus tuners, simply because they’re not official projects.

Yes, very disappointing debut of the new Hyundai. I remember being very surprised when I saw all the optimism before the car even appeared:
Van den Heuvel Motorsport have ordered a Hyundai R5, hoping to drive Rally Germany with it.
First order for the Hyundai i20 R5 from the Italian HMI team.
I even asked the question:
Is that not buying a pig in a poke?
But Mirek assured me that everything was going to be all right:
Their WRC is good and they are very rich and capable team. It's quite sane to expect a good product.
And now look at this - 2 retirements and only Fabio Andolfi at the finish line, over 20 minutes behind the leader...
But there is still hope - let's see what the next event brings - 3 Staedte Rallye in Germany on October 21, with Hermann Gassner behind the wheel... I wish him good luck!

Could just be a faulty part from a supplier. I used to work in a autoshop of a famous brand and one motor in particular keeped broking down after 2000-3000 km. They found out that was a part from a supplier and you can still buy that car with that motor and run it your whole life.

PSA made two R5's because sometimes competitors work on sponsorship with their local importer and in some countries it's not the same company that imports both Peugeot and Citroen. It's the same for their vans and other vehicles. So I don't see why Polo R5 would kill Skoda R5. They are even in different regions, yes they are under the same "hat" but still have separate engineering, separate budget, separate marketing programs.

On a side note, the Hyundai R5 is having a very troubled start to its competitive life. Double retirement in Condroz noted as oil sump for both cars. (as in something punctured said oil sump or what?)
I'm surprised these things hasn't come up in testing given Abbrings violent driving style. He also tested the troublesome 208 so one would expect him to have learnt a few lessons there.

Claudio De Cecco has withdraw from the rally while he was holding second position. He didn't feel well behind the steering wheel of Hyundai i20 R5 at the slipery roads soaked with rain.

I think these are rather engineering or supplier faults, just like the suspension problems they have/had.
On the other hand, the PSA cars have received some updates. I don't know much about it (maybe br21 does), only that there's a new engine mapping which enables the cars to run on max power or very close to it.

As i talk with Claduio directly because of the car is from HMI he dont want to damage the car road conditions is very poor.
Fruil Motor is waiting for Hyundai R5 order to delibered this rally is only to understand the car.

PSA cars have new engine mappings for Evo kits, and there you can choose boost levels by simple rotary switch. Base spec had different engine maps with different boost levels.
Hyundai problems are little more complicated - some are suppliers fault, some bad luck and some I think simply because of quite short testing phase.
But if someone thinks those are because of test driver then it means he knows absolutely nothing about developement of the car.

it's to cover the radiator when it's running too low coolant temperature.
some teams don't care about it and they don't use it...
cars of Breen and Lefebvre were from different teams.

Indeed, very very slippery. I was a co-pilot in RWD car, it was very sideways all the time...brings a lot of smile on your face.
Also Aco Lino, who drove Friulimotor P208 R5 as a "0" car, retaired because of the same reason as De Cecco....had enough of rain.

Well I have never developed a rally car in my life, so absolutely, I have no idea what the process is. I just thought it was an interesting correlation that two initially troublesome cars both were developed by the same driver. That doesn't mean I believe it is his fault, just that it is an interesting remark.
Also the oil sump should be protected by the skidplate so if something would pierce it, it seems weird given that Abbring cuts pretty agressively... an issue in that area should have come up in testing, one would think.

As far, as I know, lithuanian rally committe talking with swedish Mitsubishi Mirage R5 team. 2017 lithuanian rally regulations project allows car like this compete in Lithuania Rally Championship. So maybe maybe we will see Mirage R5 it in Lithuania.
By the way, this year Lithuania rally championship was won by latvian J.Vorobjovs with his privately built Mitsubishi Mirage with Evo's parts.
And question to guys from Poland. Could you enlight me about Ford Fiesta Proto? I know that's Fiesta with Evo's parts and I saw it only in Poland. How this project happend?

No, at least for three Fabia's which I heard yesterday in Monza show (Rosseti, Rovanpera, Colombini) I can only say they are by far the quietest compare to Fiesta's evo, not to mention PSA cars. And I20 R5 is also very loud.
For me biggest positive surprise are Fiesta's evo, with new mapping they are (almost) agressive as WRC Fiesta's.

Don't know how in other countries but here teams keep buying Fiestas like crazy as those are really cheap now. At least five new Fiestas to CZ in last few weeks.

Nice sound of r5 Fiestas is mostly thanx to option of exhaust without silencer. It makes car sound little bit similar to wrc.
A lot of people buy Fiestas because of bad reputation of PSA cars and problems with parts. Also reputation of Skoda Motorsport support and parts is currently not that good. And people are afraid of future - mainly VW decisions. So Fiesta is becoming popular again. As support is way better than others, parts no problem, car is also fast with new engine and really reliable and relatively easy to run.

Yes, You are right. M-Sport currently offers the best package and as a bonus it's also cheaper.

Why there are these two options?because of legislation to some countries?Why on earth someone use the silenser?

First cars were sold with exhaust with silencer. Then people started to remove them to make cars louder and MSport also started to offer such option. Quiet exhaust can be an advantage in some situations.

Yes, Printsport is servicing 1 or 2 cars, but nobody has driven with them.
Japanese drive with Estonian cars, owned and serviced by Markko Märtin. (crew just wear TMR-overalls)
Berezkin-Novikov Fiesta R5 has been in Tommi´s garage but it´s Russian car. New one is in parts, remember that Toyota is building their own R5...
