While Ucci is very spectacular driver his drifting always looks to be effective. That can't be said about Scandola. He looks usually wild.
Anyway... looking forward to Ronde. That one will be likely decisive.

By the way Chewon Lim is doing again quite good times considering his experience. Pity of the puncture on SS4 but that happens. Also better times for Abarths on dry.

Totally agree on both your statements.
Look at the passage at 1:14 on dimviii's video, totally on another planet compared to others. What a driver!
And me too I think Chewon Lim is performing much better than expected. Good one.

Shame for Campedelli retired.

Seems to be strugling in sanremo, he was doing fine in Ciocco. We still have to remember that he has to do recce without driving himself and to do that on new surface is not a easy task. Also they have problems to get tires warm before the stages since Risto drives all the liaisons.
His Peugeot is not up to date and is missing 30hp or something like that.
Still I trust that he can pick his pace up from today and finish the rally with better times on Saturday.
But one thing is sure, he has alot of things to learn in tarmac, on gravel and snow he is already super fast.

I'm impressed by Paddon, he has a good pace and is not far behind at all. Let's not forget he isn't a tarmac specialist. This also shows the level in WRC is very high (at least the first 6 or so).

Its also his first rally with a new codriver and I think he first drove the car only a day before the rally.
All the top bunch of WRC drivers are in WRC for a reason I think!

I would be careful with such conclusion. One could say that based on Italian results Peugeot has the best R5 car while that's not true clearly.

That's already impossible. Rovanpera had a puncture again on SS8, lost nearly 4 minutes and dropped down to the 19th position overall. In the meantime Andreucci won 3 stages in a row and leads the rally.

I'm not following the rally (bussines trip during weekend-grrrrr..), but when I opend the results, I was expecting Paddon to be in a safe lead. After all he is a WRC driver....local rally should be a "walk in the park" for him. Not to be behind 52 year old driver. So, Andreucci still a surprise for me.

Try currently (12:30) but the dry weather is all the more incomprehensible.
dry path although drips on the evidence. The next test, the longer, has some wet traits, especially the final descent. But situation all the more uncertain.
It is about to start the last act of this 64.Rallye Sanremo which remains very uncertain and treacherous for the weather pattern. Crews have chosen all the more variegated rubber solutions, although the majority has chosen a solution that does not require a lot of rain

Campedelli statements about his crash, hope my translation is clear:
"I don't know what happened, the cars went away and we flied for 40 meters!"
"We were doing well and I knew that my performance up to that point, 23km, 2/3 of the stage, was great. Then, for some reason, I did not understand the note that Piero Ometto has (prompty) read to me and I made a big mistake, entering a slow right turn at a speed at which it was virtually impossible to turn.
I do not know what happened, if it was a lack of focus or not, the fact is that it ended like that. We will have to analyze everything. At a certain point the car went away and we ended below, stopping after a flight of about 40 meters. It's a pity. I was calm, not risking. I was taking my pace after a start as usual a bit under my potential because of the lack of pre-event test. After the first stages we had done some changes to the settings and I was starting to get into real struggle for victory.
I was in second place, only 10"9 by Andreucci and ahead of Hayden Paddon. Expectations were high after Ciocco and instead ended up with a double retirement that forces us now to take advantage of the rule that allows you to discard two results throughout the season. We played the "joker", as they say, and from now on we can not give anything away to our opponents, that are very strong.
Now I will swallow the disappointment and start thinking about the next race, the Targa Florio."

Where could I find information about Rally Rome? can't seem to find any information about in which area the rally is actually driven, where the rally hq and service area will be etc.
We're trying to plan our trip to Rome but lack of information is making it pretty hard.
All the help is appreciated =)
Why is there so little information about Italian rallies? there is basically 0 information about rally Rome and now I can't find entry list for Adriatico rally?

Because Italy is stuck in the 00's for web technology... I just checked, entry list for Adriatico is not out yet. About Rally Roma Capitale, have you checked the "Audience" section on their website? I don't know how helpful it can be to you though.

Yeah I have, either they are not available or it opens last years stuff. Really makes it hard to book hotels etc. when you have no clue about where the event is actually happening :D

Ah, yes I can imagine. Hopefully they will update their website soonish, even because I doubt you can find much info elsewhere.

Although Umberto Scandola hasn't showed anything special in this season, I count him as a favorit Nb.1 for the overall victory.
And special attention should be dedicated to Kalle Rovanpera, to whom gravel is a ''natural surface''.
Kalle have now the latest specs in the car he’s driving.

"After all, it is somewhat different. The engine is a bit like driving with a Super 2000. You have to drive with higher revs and the car have a little bit different suspension and power transmission, but pretty soon you get used to it."
Rally Adriatio-1.day: Umberto Scandola convincingly won today. He was fastest on all stages except last one.
Andreucci lost a lot in the first part (gravel sweeper due to starting position), but in the second part he slowly gained back the lost time. Due to Cempedelli's mistake on 7th stage he was at the end second. Very important second place in the fight for the championship!
Kalle Rovanpera showed his talent this time: he was almost all day on second position, at the end he lost fight with Ucci for a few seconds. Big respect to him!
All in all beautiful day, perfect conditions, not to hot....

Rovanpera stopped on purpose near the end of the last stage of today, going from 2nd to 4th. Some say it's because of Peugeot's team orders to let Andreucci pass, Rovanpera said in an interview that by doing that he'll be 4th on the road instead of 2nd and will have a cleaner road. But by doing that, he gave up the points of 2nd place to get the points for 4th place, since points are assigned for Day 1 and Day 2.

Rallying has a very bad image in the eyes of many people. I'm afraid that actions like these make it even worse :(
Bit late to the party, but...
From what I have understood it wasn't even team orders, it was Kalle wanting a better start position the next day.
Like Andreussi said, it is strange how this became so blown out of proportions (and like she also said), I have a feeling this has to do with the Italian culture.

To eliminate conspiracy theory-Andreucci was last two days just cruising, no need to push for the top result, because he has to think about points which will be taken away from him (he has until today just one retirement), so if he decided just to come to the finish, this gravel event was perfect choice (he is slowly on the loose surface than Scandola & Cempedelli anyway...).
But, Cempedelli broke the wheel......and Kalle had this electrical issue.
Until the finish of the championship two rallies are on the program-both tarmac, where Andreucci is in this season in perfect condition (and P208 seems to be on the same level as other R5 cars).

I just knew this would cause trouble. Italy is the land of a million conspiracy theories after all. He could just as well have taken a time penalty by checking in late at a stop control without forfeiting the entire rally.

Probably Mr. Holmes isn’t aware overall classification means very little in CIR events, as championship points are given to Leg 1 and Leg 2 independent scratches.
The team didn’t ordered Rovanpera (P3) to let pass Andreucci (P4) at Leg 1, why would they force him to retire on Leg 2? It doesn’t make much sense. It seems Rovanpera was just (very) unlucky.

The Italian championship is in the last ''stage''-rally Due Valli is in its second day.
Winner of the first day was Paolo Andreucci, less than three seconds in front of Rossetti (but does not collect any points as he is not registered in the championship). Scandola third and Cempedelli fourth (lost some time due to puncture...). I was again pleasantly surprised over the pace of Fiat 124 Abarth, again the fastest in 2WD class.
Today the race is controlled by Rossetti. Andreucci is taking it easy as he must just finish-and he will be 10th time champion!!

Paolo Andreucci is italian champion for the 10th times. No one before him has ever achieved him. For Anna is the 9th time (since she wasn't his codriver in 2001).
This man is dominating the championship for almost 20 years. I think there are no more excuses, he won with best car, worse car, official teams, non official teams, different codrivers, different rallys. And he is still doing it in an age when most part of his collegue is enjoying his life in a couch.
Every time he had the possibility to challenge in the international level he was still among the TOP. In Sanremo IRC some years ago, Sardinia WRC2 lately when only a techincal problem prevented him to win and arrive second.
All respect to his opponents who are very strong but let me say this: this man is a hell of a LEGEND.

100 % agree.....he succeeded to brake the spell which is lying on the 9th crown (remember Valentino Rossi & Loeb) and become today new champion....10th times....what a record.
Yes, there will always be persons seeking for excuses-like always driving best car, best team, tyres.....of course they have forgotten that Paolo was also winning rallies with Evo9 gr.N (2006&2007), was utterly non-competetive last season against Basso with Fiesta and Scandola in Fabia....
In some ways he is like Ogier: never pushing on the limit if there is no need to do it....
But, now it is time to celebrate! Good luck, old fox!

Yep, RL/PS Italy 208's are reliable almost since the beginning, just like in Portugal Sports&You prepared DS's. Many other teams through Europe have managed to make the 208/DS reliable machines; strangly, SaintEloc has the worst reliability records since 2014, but Peugeot Sport seems not to bother...

Italian guys, how is the new movie "Veloce il come vento"? The trailer seemed good.
After 1 and a half year this movie is finally going to enter cinemas in Poland. The title was translated to "Italian Race". Trailer seems quite good indeed. Has anyone seen the movie already?

Interesting fact - in the "Making of" video you can see Paolo Andreucci (from 0:50 to 1:15) :)

I saw it, in Italian language with English subtitles. In movie there are some scenes with Ucci's P208T16. No more spoiling, movie actually OK, even there are some things messed up with characters age, and times when they drove some cars; for those who know some about rallying history it could be trouble, but in general it's good.

Can somebody confirm my prediction about the change in the CIR points system; naimley as I understand ACI will cancel the points system for each day classification.

Yes they are. But AFAIK they're going to race from thursday to saturday and that's simply stupid because people work on thursday and friday. But I have to understand this better.

A perfect start for the old Italian rally star.....Andreucci's victory was never in danger, he just routinely retained the relatively small advantage, made today no mistake whatsoever.....victory for a textbook.
What about others: Crungola definetely a positive surprise, was all the time close to Ucci; sometimes even faster.
Cempedelli showed many times he can challenge Ucci, this time he had one flat tyre, so the dreams for the victory were immediately history.
Pollara-slow....
Gryazin-I expected more from him, if we exclude lose of time due to flat tyre on 9th stage, he was loosing constantly around 1sec/km....sometimes even more.
Both Japan guests-very solide; most important: no mistakes.
Gryazin-I expected more from him,
Me too, although his main experience and best performances have been on gravel.

You`re correct, in fact I think they are nowadays also produced in the UK(at Avon/Cooper factory) and not in China anymore, all key personnel are ex. Pirelli guys. Regardless of this it seems like they still have some work to do on tarmac to catch Pirelli and Michelin.

Gryazin only 7th overall. No chance for a good result in Sanremo for him.
Good to see the young Giacomo Scattolon returning to the championship, but his first stage times in a R5 car don't look very good. He is currently in the 11th position after some small problems and a penalty:

Andrea Nucita is a winner of Targa!! Congratulations! He has perfectly taken the advantage of the changing weather conditions (wet/dry) and the knowledge of home stages and has beaten Paolo Andreucci. On the other hand, Nucita is not registered in C.I.R, so that may be the reason, that Andreucci hasn't shown 100% performance......

Also Marco Pollara lost lot of time because of hydrolic problems(fell from 6th to 13th) :(
Today's victory is precisely according to Andreucci's recipe: at the beginning slowely, while Cempedelli and Andrea Crungola attacked from "all cannons", but this game was a short run. On the today's first stage Cempedelli made acmistake (damaged the suspension) and retaired, while Crungola had a flat front tyre. Andreucci inherited a lead and was then just crusing until the finish line.
Those young drivers showed speed on many occaisons, they just need to stay on the road and some luck for the flat tyres.

One lost battle for Andreucci doesn't mean a lost war. But, nothing is decided yet, because last two events (Adriatico & Due Valli) have a coefficient 1,5 ! On Adriatico (gravel) Andreucci has no chance to win, but on the tarmac he is still capable to win.
I know that it's boring but honestly can You say that Ogier would beat Kopecký yesterday? And if not him who else?
Well Mirek, it is nice that you protect your driver, but to think that Ogier would not beat Kopecky (in an equal vehicle, of course), is a bit to overwhelming.
Like a song from Kim Wilde & Nena: Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime.....Ogier beats any local Nb.1 driver on his local soil. He is 5x WC. Period.

You didn't get the point. I meant that without bringing one of the few very best drivers in the whole world You can't expect anyone to defeat Kopecký here. Therefore it's boring if You watch it only through results and not live on stages but there is absolutely no chance for anyone to do anything about it. On the other hand believe me that as a spectator I really want him driving here because he's pure pleasure to watch.

It was the same when Evans did the British Championship in 2016. In some places watching him it was like he was in a WRC car compared to everyone else in an R5, such was the difference in speed carried and spectacle provided by a top driver. It was great to see as a spectator. He was a big draw for me making the effort to attend numerous rounds that year, a similar effort I haven't made since he left...
