Perego and Colombini with Fiesta R5, Perico for the first time in P208R5 (although this Pug was already driven on Madeira, thanks god...).
My favourite-as always: Paolo Andreucci.

After two stages Friuli, Ucci leading with a margin of already 14"9 :bounce:
Steady learning from Perico for his first outing in the 208 T16(4th overall) ;)

Already a mechanical failure leading to retirement for the DS3 R5 of Michelini(between SS1 and 2)

Ferraroti leading the GrR(7th)and Albertini the Junior R2(8th)...

According to Claudio's live of the rally electronic problems for Basso :(
It's no use saying then the Ford is more reliable than the Peugeot in R5 class :mark:

PS: in historic no luck for "Pedro" who is leading after 4 stages, the engine of his Lancia has cylinder problem and could cost him the retirement :(

(

in the sense that Ford is not so reliable as we thought? or instead that it's only an exception in the proven reliability of M-sport's r5?

I've just arrived back home from holiday, thanks god-Andreucci is leading.
I've read that Basso had problems with bang-system....shame...why did Perego change his evoX for Fiesta R5?? He is not much quicker.....And very fast german driver Kössler with Suby N4....long time since somebody was under first ten with evo/suby on this demanding stages. Even more respectable-Kössler is for the first time on Alpi....

VICTORY for Paolo Andreucci at the Rally del Friuli :bounce:
Giando Basso and Alex Perico finished on the podium... ;)

Big unluck for Umberto Scandola who lost almost 4 minutes after having hit something on the previous stage(possible suspension damage)and finished only 5th... :mark:

Congrats to Ucci-Ussi! Very important victory, especialy for Peugeot with their tragedy at Barum....
Basso can be happy for second position, problems on friday ruined his race.
Perico-slowley gaining coinfidence in new car. Hey, two P208 R5 on podium. Unbelivale...
Umby Scandola-with his mistake on the last stage the fight for championship is totally open.

Huge success for family Re at yesterday's Rally Valli Cuneesi: father Felice won the race itself thanks to misfortune of his biggest rival Corrado Fontana (he suffered double tyre puncture and left without spare...). Because of this victory Felice Re has become also a champion of I.R.C. 2014 trophy. He is a true sportsman and admitted that Corrado is a moral winner, but rally is a complex sport and being just fast is (somethimes) not enough. Anyway, also Felice had in his earlier career his share of bad luck, so this is kind of consolation for all his efforts.
His son Alessandro has become a champion in S2000/RRC/R5 class.
As Italians would say : complimenti ai vincitori-un bravo a Felice Re e Mara Bariani.

Basso was affected by a problem with the pop-off valve, also breen in the same w-end..maybe r5 valves fragile?

I saw on tv the onboard Andreucci with his off: he explained after the video that during braking he heard a strange transmission noise..the braking was strangely too long..maybe axle shaft....but the big problem was that he lost the reverse gear and when he tried to engage it the problem was bigger and so with this maneuver he destroyed the gearbox (27min occured to change it at service). He said that he was with 2 wheels on the ditch but without the problem with reverse gear he could exit without any problem

Well, regarding that Ciocco has traditionally ''weak'' entry list, this one is a positive surprise. It looks that drivers&teams realized that S2000 cars are history, if you want to fight for the victory, a R5 is ''obligatory''.

Looking forward to a very interesting event, indeed! Fingers crossed for Andreucci.

After Andreucci's team solved problems with brakes, Andreucci is by far fastest. Scandola retired on the 12th stage due to mechanical troubles(unusualy for Fabia), but he was today biggest dissaponitent....or S2000 is really history or this was not his day.
So, tommorow another 41 km of competetive stage distance, we can expect full attack from Andreucci and crusing from Basso, who has a solid lead to Perico.

It's a shame that Basso had to retire at the very end. Ucci has been unlucky at the beginning but at the end he took more points than his main opponents and show a very good pace. I think it will be harder this year for his rivals. I really enjoyed the event, the only thing I don't understand is why these guys that seem very good drivers never participate to a WRC round. I really would like to see them measuring themself with the rest of the world.

Indeed, few years ago on WRC Sardina rally was the fastest compare to S2000 drivers..
I would also like to see top Italian drivers comparing against top WRC drivers, but it will never happen (at least in near future) for following reasons:
- Racing Lions together with Peugeot Italia has no interest on spending money for Ucci rallying abroad. Their market is Italy.
- same goes for Umberto Scandola. Škoda Italy has domestic market to take care of it. For other markets are responsible domestic importers.
- Giandomenico Basso can not participate with his LPG Fiesta outside Italy, because it has just national homologation.
- Alessandro Perico, Rudy Michelini, Albertini...they are all privateers.....

It is difficult to compare, because CIR drivers were driving under different rules and conditions. They didnt have limited tyres, they can use different tyres than WRC ones, I dont know how it was with fuel, they were doing shorter race etc...

I have just mentioned that Rally 1000 Miglia is out of CIR. On of the best events in Italy, which should be in ERC (for me it was better event than Sanremo) and is out not only ERC, but also CIR. Now only second league with WRC cars :( Big disappointment for me...

Yes, I know. I have seen their speed many times. Thats why I would like to see Paolo Andreucci at least on one race out of Italy. I think on Corse or Monte he should be very, very fast. But events like Ypres, Barum or Valais...

Rox at the start with a Fiesta WRC at Mille Miglia, I think we already know our winner then. I don't think Ré and others in WRC can beat him eventhough Rox only did a test with it and has not so much rhythm. We saw last year a good example of Rox skills in Ypres last year without any rhythm..

The only serious contender for Rox could be Alessandro Perico (also with Fiesta WRC). Other gentelman WRC drivers are definitely no match to Rox, even if Rox will have no test before the race...But wait for the entry list. It should be available today.

After two stages on San Remo old fox Paolo Andreucci already in the lead ! Basso is quite close to him (+4,6), Perico & Scandola +9,9....the dissapointment so far : big hope of French rallying Chardonnet, losing already 24 seconds (excatly 1sec/km). Shame for young Frenchman to be beaten by (missing few days..) 50 years old veteran.....but the race is still very long and many things can go wrong on P208 R5....

Indeed, after first two stages Scandola surprisingly in the lead ahead of Basso, Chardo and Ucci. But the differences are small and do not forget that proper rally starts tomorrow...Interesting, the the ''small'' P208 R2 is just two second behind Andolfi (who is leading the 2WD class) with much stronger Clio R3...
In those two stages Nittel did not impressed....

Very good job by Scandola. Tomorrow morning will be hard fo Andreucci that will have to sweep the road but then the 3 stages will be repeated three times and everything can happen. Basso and Chardonnet are not so far from Scandola.
BTW I didn't know Chardonnet spoke italian...Why so? When did he learn it? :)

Ucci
2nd May 2015, 10:57
Sweeping the road took the toll from Andreucci-after first loop of stages he lost a lot...almost 40 sec behind Umberto Scandola. IMHO he will accept the fact that first position is lost. The stages will be twice repeated and all he can do is to attack Chardo and Basso.

AL14
2nd May 2015, 12:10
I think that too. But I think also that Scandola has a very good rithm and would be the first even if Andreucci had not to sweep. 40 seconds is too much even if you are first on the road.
Hope Umberto brings it at home btw.

SS9 won by Basso, Scandola still in the lead. 17 seconds between Chardonnet and Basso in 2nd and 3rd position now. Very strong attack by Basso.
Andreucci drops other 7 seconds, this was the third pass so no sweeping problem for him, he's just slower. I think he has fixed that 3 cilinder problems otherwise he should have lost more time. Actually I didn't notice that problems throughout all the stages, are you sure about it RICARDO75?

Congratulations and respect to Umby Scandola for a very convincing victory on the gravel stages near Ancona. There was no doubt both two days who the winner will be....
By the way-there is still some ''fire'' in old Fabia S2000.
Even more I surprised about the pace of Chardonnet and Basso, who were clearly faster than Paolino Andreucci. Troubles with the engine of his P208 R5 - nobody heard them when driving on stages...????
Still, it is very good for the championship itself-three races & three different winners.
Roll out to Targa, this is a Andreucci's ''territory'', hope he will improve bad impression left by today's event...

AL14
2nd May 2015, 19:30
Well deserved victory by Scandola. Leading from the beginning to the end and won most of the stages with his S2000. Can't wait to see him with the new R5 but I suspect it won't happen in time for Targa Florio.
Anyway I think today was not Andreucci's day, it happens, even to the best ones...

Very good job by Chardonnet as well, second place in his second outing in a new champioship and with a new car.

A bit disappointed by Suninen, I didn't expect more than 5th place to be honest, he was driving a S2000 and Rally Adriatico is very different from finnish rallys but as a rising star I thought he could have impressed more. Difficult to judge him btw.

Solid performance by Umby & Guido! Complimenti!

Ucci was a big dissappointment, driving looked uncertain which was surprising. Okey, I saw only three different places, but still... I've seen him much more confident. Three to four braking for the corner looked weird for him.

Chardonnet was very good also, but with his experience he should be at level like this. Suninen...okey, first rally abroad from Finland and first rally with 4wd on gravel. But as a rising future star I expect the same like AL14. I still remember 2010 when not-so-rising-finnish-star teased the big names in CIR with old gr.N Subarina...

For me the drivers of the rally were Scandola, Chardonnet, Giuseppe Testa and Michele Tassone. I was really impressed by those young drivers with their R2. Before the last stage the gap between them was 4,4s. We were watching 4km's from the start of the last stage and on that place Testa was faster by 2s compared to Tassone. I don't know what happened before the finish lane because Testa lost 20,4s on that stage. Maybe he spun or something like that? But on that point where we saw those guys they both pushed like hell!!

Good job by Chardonnet, he took the podium in a brand new rally against drivers who run it all the years.

I may sound annoying but I have to say I'm far from happy about safety in this rally (as well as S.Remo). Too many people in dangerous areas, even where there were clear signs that didn't allow people to stay there (marshalls, where are you?).
I can't understand why people and orginisers don't pay attention to their own lifes. In a normal world they would have been forbidden to orginise the rally again.

A pity Scandola rolled this morning. I'm sure next year we will have fun watching those two fighting. Hope Andreucci will resist a couple of more years. :)

I take the opportunity to praise Guido D'Amore's work.
Scandola's pace notes are not that easy to say. They are very very detailed and complex. Even if you don't understand italian it's clear that you need perfect rythm and concentration. If he says a word one second later Scandola is off the road. And he never fails!

At the same time it is unbeliavable how Scandola is able understand all those information when he drives. The fun fact is that when you see his onboard in a first pass of a stage he makes corrections for the second pass as well.
No other drivers in Italy have such a pace note system in my opinion.

What a triller on the last stage of rally del Casentino yesterday evening : until the last (and the longest stage) Denis Colombini and multiple tarmac trophy winner (and last year I.R.C. winner) Felice Re had outraged fight - they were in a class of its own. Biggest disappointment were definitely Lorenzo Bertelli who didn't stand a chance even towards Felice Re's son -Alessandro, who drove for the first time a WRC car on proper stages (forget local shows) and a Corrado Fontana. Now I'm really asking my self what the hell is Bertelli doing on WRC scene?? If you want to do WRC events, you should be at least first on a local events....
But, the race is finished after last meter of the last stage and what happened : Felice Re hit a wall of a bridge and retired, Denis Colombini had a puncture and lost more than a minut and consequently lost the lead....
About Sarrazin : he won 1st stage, on the second had a puncture, changed the wheel, lost more than two minutes and on the liasion later retired due to electrical problems.
Again one stupid spectator showed his mental disability when he/she threw an egg on the windscreen of Luca Rossetti, who was forced to clean the windscreen during last stage....Rossetti still won the R3T class, but lost the fight again Gasperetti (due to ''egg'' problem), who drove the old Clio R3 with N/A engine. But until last stage they were separated by few seconds. The whole rally the distance was very small and this is a proof, that new turbo Clio is not faster than the old one. Still some work to be done on a new generation car.
And now waiting for the comment from AL14.....

Hello there. Ucci you sumed up perfectly the whole rally even without being there.
So I can't add too much besides my impressions on seeing it live.

First of all Bertelli. Didn't look any good. He wasn't smooth and clear at all. Honestly, I didn't expect him to win. He never demonstrated to be a very good driver. Just set some good times last here in WRC2 but it is easy when you choose all far events when you don't have too much competitors. I think he's not a very bad driver but he should have fun with some R5 and be done with it. He is not guilty to have money of course but he has to know his level and not try to force it. Maybe keeping it easy instead of jumping on a WRC after a couple of podium in WRC2, he could have improved a bit more.

Sarrazin, I've been lucky to see him in the stage he got the puncture before it and yes, I saw some international level in there, very spectacular and smooth at the same time. He would have win with no doubts. A real pity he had to stop.

Clios. As most of you I was suspecting that R3Cs were better than R3Ts before the rally. I saw R3T on other rallys and didn't impressed me at all. Yesterday we all had the proof they have to work a lot to deliver better cars.

Other cars. 17 WRC was a real show for a local event, really well done. Hyundai drivers were keeping it safe while Re and Colombini were committed in the battle. All of them showed how rally is still alive here in Italy and we all need it. Very nice the historic cars at the end as well! Especially the very very little fiat 500 :D.

Spectators. Really nice atmosphere in there, as always when a rally is hosted in Tuscany. A very very big disappointment for the egg guy. Really can't understand that. Just stupid. He should not belong to rally and stay at home but unfortunately the mother of the idiots is always pregnant.

Overall a great rally and a real good organization. Marshalls were professional but kind at the same time. Stages were easy to reach as well. The only issue was to find a good spot. At least at SS2-6 were I was. Just little places available if you didn't want to die and not too much visibility or action to see.

To finish. The scenery. Tuscany landscape is wonderful. I live here for 10 years but I am amazed everytime I took the car outside from the city. There was a little river near the stage were we stayed waiting for the second pass. It was very very hot and that river was like a mirage. Nice one. :)

Pity.I was waiting this rally to see 208 vs fabia to the hands of two spesialists.I mean both drivers know the stages and we could have seen pure speed from both of them in order to reach some safe conclusions.I think that for a driver who wants to buy a r5 car the battles in national championships are more representives than in the erc or in wrc.(in the hands of the official drivers)

If basso switch to a better car?

You can switch all you want, Andreucci will still be champion in my opinion. Peugeot put him in troubles more than once but he managed to win anyway or take valuable points.
I still remember Il Ciocco Rally, he had problems and was several minutes far from lead. Then he won all the remaining stages giving 10-15 seconds per stage to the others. At the end he was something like 5th or 6th.

The only way for him to lose the champioship is his age or Scandola exploiting all the power of Fabia R5.

Indeed, Paolo Andreucci is a phenomenon! Behid him stands a very good team, a car which doesn't make such headaches as all around the world...Maybe that has also something to do with his driving style, who knows...
Obviousley he has a matching co-pilot(well done Ana) and the sum of all this facts gives an unbeatable combination.
9-times national champion, with very different cars (Fiat Punto S1600, Focus WRC, G.Punto S2000, P207 S2000 and P208 R5); a proof of his skils....
No it is time to celebrtate Paolino, cheers....

As for his driving style you are right in my opinion. Someone in this forum can say he is more nose end first. I can just say that he is very clean and smooth. And of course a lot of merit goes to Anna as well.
2016 could be 10th crown indeed but if Scandola will take it in the road it will not be easy.

Heavy impacts and fire. Two extremely recurrent factors that have taken too much lives all along the history. Heavy crashes are something difficult to deal with (in order to avoid them), but is pretty sad that we cannot do almost anything when a car bursts into flames. Maybe one extinguisher isn't enough, maybe neither five hundreds... How to deal with? I can't stand...

Basso has been a bit unlucky this time. In fact he has been faster today but rally is not only about stage times. This year he struggled more than usual but I don't blame too much the crew, it is difficult with his haviest gas car to battle against the developed Peugeot and the brand new Fabia R5.
