After first day in Ancona-rally Adriatico BIG surprise : in the lead Umberto Scandola!! First time in Fiesta S2000 and already in a strong lead (+15 sec) in front of Giandomenico Basso. Ok, he had a clean run as his start number is 34.
Andreucci with number 1 lost a lot of time with cleaning the roads, so I hope tomorrow they will start after times, achived today. This would allow Ucci a perfect run, otherwise it will be a mission impossible....

Only a very good driver is able to "cancel" the small difference between top s2000 cars (p207, fabia) and Punto... and Rox is one of them :-) The rest will still say that the car is not as fast as the driver :-)

I don´t agree with you. Fiat´s main problem is that there only have two good drivers (Basso and Rossetti), compared with Skoda, Peugeot and Ford. Let´s have a look at the results from the Krumlov rally from this year an from last year. Last year Tarabus in the Punto was 1min 44 secs behind Kresta in the 207. Before the ultimate stage this year Tarabus in the Fiesta was again 1min 44 secs behind Kresta in the 207.

What i want to say is that the main problem may be pilots who drive the Punto not the car itself.

Mirek
23rd May 2010, 11:19
Tarabus's Fiesta is way faster than the Punto. Just ask him and he will tell You. The reason why there was almost same gap is mostly in much harder road conditions this year and also because Kresta's car was meanwhile reasonably upgraded.

Problem of Punto is that it is old design which is slow anywhere else than on mediteranean type twisty roads on which it was born. It has weak engine with not enough torque, old-style suspension with very small suspesnion travel (especially compared to Fiesta or Fabia) or Öhlins shock absorbers which are not that good as Reiger.

Basso and Rossetti are able of some results with Punto only because they are exceptional drivers. If Punto was good someone would still use it but most of them are sold for low prices and almost noone use it outside Italy.

Who knows, maybe you are right, but don't you think that there must be some good reason why good drivers choose different cars than Fiat?

I was quite surprised when I learnt that Adriatico was a gravel event. I saw the results last week but only just saw the photos... I thought the Punto was only any good on tarmac, but I have to agree with your comments because Rossetti is a very good gravel driver too and the roads in Adriatico look pretty smooth.

What do you mean with Sardinia?? He was second at IRC race, yust behind Hanninen...
He was ''beaten'' at Adriatico, but for other reasons-flat tyres, accident with spectator.....
Nevertheless, he will have hard time at Salento specialy with Fiat boys, as his Pirelli's are not suitable for hot tarmac.

Crazy performance by a young Czech driver-to win in CIR, in front of all this experienced Italian drivers-with the knowledge of every bend, stone...is really something special!! This result predicts battle for win in Belgium. He will be sharp as a rezor.
Travaglia didn't made it to the finish.
Kubica-also a big surprise!! Victory in 2WD class. Clio S1600 is still capable to beat Clio R3 on a dry tarmac. With a help of a top driver, naturally! Which Kubica definitely is (F1 and rally, both in one person-watch out, Kimi&Valentino...).
I expected more from Rossetti!
Finaly Navarra in Fiesta S2000, it is good for championship, but he has a long way to learn, if he wants to put in danger Kopecky&Roxy&Basso&Ucci&Trava...

Rally Appennino Reggiano (TRA), another victory for Luca Pedersoli in front of his main rival, Felice Re! This time 13 seconds separatets them.
An important victory for Pede as he even increased his championship lead!
In three weeks another rally-San Martino di Castrozza, there is always an important fact the weather as the rally itself takes the route under high Dolomite mountains and some storms are almost every day on the schedule...

It's a pity, but his Fiesta hasn't arrived yet from M-Sport. (a matter of money, I think).

Also missing: Cantamessa, Cunico (I think that they experienced how slow are non-works Abarths), Cavallini and Perico (who is quite slow on gravel).

Anyway, Rally San Marino is 50 km from where I live, so I can't wait until friday!!!

It was clear already before the start that Meeke will be the biggest favorite for the overal victory, as Andreuuci was concentrated yust on Rossetti. Believe me, when Rossetti went off, yust a finish line was in Ucci's mind! And on the first two stage he was also first on the road.
Reality was few months ago on Sardinia, when Ucci was on a full attack-at that time Meeke was no threat to Ucci. Still, congratulations to Meeke for a victory.

Entry list for the last round of CIR-Rally Como:

http://www.rallydicomo.com/2010/IscrittiComo2010.pdf

Very promising list, a lot of S2000 cars, especially as the championship is already decided.
Rudy Michelini for the first time with Fiesta S2000, good luck for him! And not to forget local gentelman driver Marco Silva, who will have some difficulties to adapt on Punto S2000-it a bit frustrating if your ''normal'' car is Focus WRC....

François Delecour back in rally world at the occasion of Rally Legend this week-end :D
http://www.rallylegend.com/
He won. But the star of the rally was the never seen before Lancia S4 'new step' ECV1.
The still today innovative "Triflux" engine was set at 'only' 600cv. On the bank it is capable of over 1000 ! LOL ! What a dangerous beast ^^
Biasion in a tv interview says it's really beyond all the possible safety marks xD

Yust three more stages to the end of ACI Rally Como and also to the end of 2010 Iitalian Championship (CIR): it look like Kopecky will win, Rossetti is traying to keep up with him, Andreucci is not in the hurry (no need for that...) and Basso had a puncture-he is not in a position to win anymore....Quite good pace by Corrado Fontana, he likes this stages,as he lives at Como lake....Asnaghi first in the 2WD category-a bit surprise for me!

Basso didn't start to SS8 due to damage from puncture :( And Ucci lost 3 minutes by puncture...

Congratulations to Rossetti, Kopecky, Perico, Carella(8th for his first outing in S2000) and Ucci/Racing Lions(both titles for them) :)

Very interesting season, lot of good drivers and top cars!
Now wait for 2011!

Indeed very interesting season in Italy, definitely most spectacular championship in Europe http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/images/icons/spin2.gifA lot of publicity was brought with the decision of Skoda Motorsport to bring Kopecky in Italy-also very good marketing decision!!
Speaking of results-me personaly as an observer of CIR can say, that the ''old'' genaration, like Longhi, Travaglia and Navarra are having more and more troubles to find speed to achive top results. The only exception is of course Paolo Andreucci, who has no troubles with Basso, Roxsy, Kopecky, Scandola
and others, he is really phenomenon....
So to the next season-2011, it is a bit to early to speak about changes for teams&drivers, at this time yust Andreucci is already 100% for sure at Racing Lions (you don't change the winning horse) and Longhi has also a contract with Twister Corse for the next year...

Have You told that to Rossetti? :D

Well Mirek, nothing against Rossetti, he is a top-driver, but if you look things like the situation in WRC on the example Loeb-P.Solberg, as they both are very, very good drivers, but Loeb was 7-times champion and Peter once.
The same story here : Andreucci already 5-times champion and Rosseti (only) ones, so this comparison tells everything....And the best cards for the next season has again Ucci, like Loeb in WRC....
But, as already told, I respect Rossetti very high !!

I don't know what Abarth promised (or paid) him 2 years ago, but I think if he stayed in Racing Lions' 207 maybe now he is 3 times Italian champion...

2011 CIR is still very uncertain: in terms of calendar they're talking about 6 tarmac events and 2 gravel events (this year was 5 and 3).
Abarth's future is not sure. Hope they'll remain.
And hope to see again Kopecky but I think is very unlikely!

I wasn't comparing speed of them. I just meant what Stepunk speaks about ;)

I think so. It was program of Skoda Italia and the cooperation wasn't always perfect as far as I know...

Still no dates, but you can see the events.
Next year CIR will consist of 6 tarmac events and 2 gravel events.
Adriatico, San Marino, Sanremo and Como are out of CIR repalced by Ciocco, Targa Florio, San Crispino and San Martino di Castrozza.
Rumours says that Costa Smeralda will be run together with Rally d'Italia WRC (like Rally d'Alsace this year).

About Monza Rally-I was already six times in a row on this beautiful event, this year unfortunately I have no time to visit it; anyway I recomend the visit to all fans of rallying, because so much cars in one day you will never have the chance to see....Indeed it is not a classic rally, but still the atmosphere, the sounds, turbo blows.....always a desert for a rally fan. And it is all on your hand-no long walking, yust park the car and party....
Have fun !!!

In Monza Rally Show it is two Citroen WRC C4 leading the event with Capello and Sordo (+2.8"), third is Longhi (Focus WRC +7.1"), fourth Perico (Citroen Xsara WRC +7.5") and fifth another Citroen C4 WRC, Felice Re (+8.9"). So we see four Citroen's in top5, clearly same dominance as in Worldchampionship. ;)
Andreucci is clearly leading S2000 category and also 6th overall.
