I think that it's better to make separate thread for Czech rallying this year.

Some news to start with, first some rallys...

Rallysprint Vyškov is canceled due to both disputes with ASN about date and financial problems. It looks like maybe Rally Vysočina will be in rallysprint calendar instead.

Very popular Rallysprint Kopná has new date 4th July.

There is new imporant rulle especialy for Barum rally. Foreign crews are not counted to International championship unless they register themselves for championship (holders of Czech licence are counted automaticaly).

And now about teams...

2008 champion Roman Kresta changed car and will use Peugeot 207 S2000 ex-Kopecký in International championship. The same car should be used by Jiří Tošovský in some Mitropa Cup events, but maybe he will use Evo IX and later X instead as he is gentleman driver.

Škoda Motorsport is supposed to do some rallys in International championship. It looks like both crews will be present on some selected events and Kopecký maybe at most of the championship.

Evgeny Novikov will do selected rallys in gr.N Lancer to learn tarmac. It should be Valašská Rally, Šumava, Barum, Příbram and Bohemia (some may be skipped due to lack of time).

Charouz Racing System with new owner, Josef Semerád, should use CNG Lancer in Rallysprint championship. Maybe with Josef Semerád behind the wheel, another possibility is Pech.

Jan Štěpánek returns to rallying and will use Octavia WRC in Rallysprints.

Lubomír Minařík will use new Clio R3 in International champ (stays with Fabia Kit Car for sprints), Jakub Blahna, son of Czech legend Václav Blahna, will use that Clio in sprints. Another Clio R3 (ex-Campana) will be used by Jiří Trojan, fast and experienced driver.

Pavel Valoušek stays with Lancer and his programme should consist of International Championship, some sprints and also Rally Tatry (Slovakia) and Rally Saturnus or Postojnska Jama (Slovenia, I don't know which one).

Jan Černý will most probably run majority of both Czech championships with Impreza N12B, some international starts are highly possible.

Milan Pantálek will use Punto S2000 from JM Engineering in rallysprints and few International champ rounds.

Rally Postojnska jama is canceled, there will be a rallysprint instead. So Saturnus is the only possibility.

They say that the Slovenian entries for Lavanttal are very poor....

Kaucic stays with Evo IX,Peljhan should start with Evo IX and change to Evo X,for Jereb I'm not sure he will probably drive some rallys in PWRC.

What are Pech's plans for Internatinal championship?

Would love to see Pech,Valda,Černy,Tošovsky (only because of the car),.... in Saturnus ;)

Mirek
2nd March 2009, 20:39
Pech continues with Lancer, maybe he'll switch to Evo X during the season.

I expect Orsák, Arazim and Štajf on Saturnus rather than Černý...

Like Urabus said, things are not looking that good.

Jereb has no official plans out, Kaučič and Peljhan stay with their evo IX for now, Vusič also. Rihtar maybe in an evo X but will not do Lavanttal, Klemenčič (evo IX) is thinking of skipping this season or maybe just a couple of rallys. Cilenšek is said to be buying a N12 or N14. There will be a couple of new guys in mitsus, hopefully. There is an M3 E30 in the making http://jazon.mesec.org/slike.htm .

Petrič (C2 R2) will drive the Italian C2 R2 trophy and three rallys in Slovenia, Kavčič is also thinking about Italy. Turk will probably drive the new 207 R3 later in the season.

There was some talk about Clio R3 Access Cup together with croatian drivers but I have a feeling that this project is dead (hope to be wrong).

As for the others, no plans announced yet, same as every year actually...

We will have to wait another weak or so...

Orsák's programme:

Czech international championship complete
Rally Tatry Slovakia
Rally Saturnus Slovenia
maybe INA Delta Croatia Rally
maybe rallysprints Lužické hory, Jeseníky and Vsetín

His second Evo IX will be used by Tomáš Kůrka.

He will use Odložilík's 207 S2000 for Slovak championship. That's the only official programme but I think that he will do at least Barum rally (no idea about the car).

No Madeira for Skoda? :(

Raven, is always the same thing they are waiting for some kind of help from the local organization €€€€€, but in nowadays this kind of prize for the drivers is not like the old days of the rally. They prefer to spend the budget to mantain the rally position on the International calendars. This is not The Rali Vinho Madeira thread but I can tell you that the organizers are trying to prepare a good edition because we will commemorate 50 years of Rally Vinho Madeira. They invited several Italian drivers....Let's wait to see!

Has Kopecky and Hänninen problems??

Weird stage times especially from Hänninen.

Don't forget this is a tarmac rally so I don't think Hanninen's times are strange. The Czech Championship is very competitive at the top of the leaderboards..

But I believe Kopecky probably has some small issues as he should be at least competitive with Kresta.

But nobody in Czech Republic to give some more information? :( It's simple - everyone is standing at the stages :D The main role in the first section had the weather - first stage was almost dry, but at the second and third the rain suddenly begun. There weren't many stages of Monte that wasn't effected by ice and snow at least in some parts so it wasn't really indicative of a normal tarmac rally I think. Juho seems pretty good on tarmac but I doubt he could match Kopecky and Kresta on Czech tarmac just yet. But that is why he is there, to learn, and to develop the car.

I just returned from a very very sad rally, still not far from bursting into tears :(
The morning action started very promising with thrilling battles to come...just seen really nice morning gravel/tarmac drivethroughs of the topcars and then, some 500m later, it happened.
The organisers are denying their guilt, they say that the safety car checked all the at the forbidden places standing spectators before the beginning of the stage. According to Czech medias some witnesses say that the deceased spectators came to the tragic outside corner not long before the accident......while tens of spectators watching the action and the accident from the safe opposite bank........
21 years old Slovakian driver Lapdavský suffered a serious injury and had a nervous break-down in the hospital.
My deepest condolences to all involved.....

Yes, it is a pity. That people came to the place few minutes before Lapdavsky's arrival, they were noticed by other people (and some czech drivers, who were spectating), that they are standing on the bad place, but they were arrogant. And result you know. Stupid accident, but very serious mistake by the people, which were killed.

In the ideal world..yes..stage should be stopped till specators leave the forbidden area.
In the real world.... I can´t imagine how to manage that every now and then......People will always stand where they shouldn´t be....

Or should we put rally into circuits?

Tricky questions,even trickier answers....

Tragic... :(

I Belgium (certainly in Flanders) they would cancel the stage, everybody would be nagging about it, but this should be a lesson for everyone!

I definitely agree....from time to time a lesson (I mean stopping the stage) should be learned. On the other hand, not everyone follows rally regularly,so not everyone gets the info about a lesson to be learned.

And what can a route marshall do when there is no time for stopping the stage? ....e.g. when people enter the forbidden area shortly before the drivethrough of a car....

But I´m not saying that there ´s no space for safety improvements, there always is.

Well, maybe it's time to answer Your previous questions outside the tragedy...

Škoda's had completely wrong tyres for SS2 and 3 - slicks without cuts in heavy rain on SS2. Kopecký had also problem with extra lights on SS6 (probably with water in them), he was driving with only 2 from 6 extra lights. Kresta had also wrong tyres, but still a bit better (slick with few cuts).

Šlehofer retired because of electronics (maybe water in it).

Pech had a scary off on SS6 when he hit a wooden stockpile but without damage. He just lost time.

Novikov was simply incredible. Very hard pushing with very wide driving. On SS7 he had problems with brakes and also had to reverse.

Odložilík and Jelínek had broken driveshaft. Valoušek had troubles with gearbox from SS2 to SS6 (loosing gears). Peták troubles with brake pads on first loop (blocking rear wheels). Černý had wrong tyres and said he was completely out of rhytm after that. Štajf said he didn't feel confiddent with new car in such hard conditions. Tarabus had two punctures (drove ex-Solowow's 08 Punto). Jakeš was twice off road. Hanák had a big crash just in front of my friends (no injury fortunately). Sýkora went off and damaged steering.

And Polish Lukasz Habaj was much faster than I expected even though I expect him to be fast...

RIP to the deceased
But when will people learn not to stand in stupid places
In the UK There is a spectator safety control car goes through the stage before it goes live and then if they are in a stupid place they are told to move or the stage will be stopped.

If there are not enough marshals for the stage and people stand in a dangerous place then its their funeral

Mirek
29th March 2009, 11:26
The people were not there before start when safety control was going through. I was told that they were several times told to go away from the place by both marshals and rally drivers who were there. The worst thing is that the man took two children with him :(

It's true that cancelling stage because of spectators is not common here but probably should be because the people are often arrogant or drunk and is not possible to move them away without police...

Honza H.
29th March 2009, 11:34
Conditions on Friday were extremely hard: First cars on the SS 2 had bits of dying daylight but the rest of the Friday´s stages were completely in a pitch dark night. More to that from SS2 there was heavy rain always changing into drizzle and then into heavy rain again. In the late night fog appeared.
On the contrary, Saturday morning was sunny.

I also saw Hanák´s roll-over, which only proved that in such conditions accidents could happen anytime anywhere. So my respect to all the drivers who dared to take part in this tricky race!

I agree with Mirek, the biggest surprise for me was Novikov: always the latest N4 on brakes, his times were really impressive. That guy has a future, I think!

m.lowe
29th March 2009, 11:35
They will soon complain when rallies start getting banned in Czech then they will realise but it will be too late as it will spoil it for the true rally fans that have knowledge where to stand in a safe place.

Maybe the organising clubs should be stopped from running events or if there is not enough marshals for one stage then cut the stages down so cover is there
Just a thought

This is just circuit stage, very fast and wide, nothing particularly important. Let's wait for tomorrow. The weather is now bad, tomorrow should be changeble.

Trojan has new co-driver for this rally, Marcela Dolečková, young woman who was co-driving A5 rallysprint champion Jiří Hladík last year.

Mirek

urabus-denoS2000: It's not proper spectator stage. It's natural circuit but is quite too fast for today. But it's classic for Rally Šumava for many years.

wwwbroe: Here they are: http://reco.pb.cz/cgi-bin/soutez/2009/klatovyh/reco/overal

Alar Hermanson from Estonia didn't start to SS1 and Martin Liška broke wheel.

Many people are talking about that. Pech was driving some few kilometers behind Kresta (it was after the puncture in 22 km long SS7). Pech was 9 seconds slower than Valoušek there. For sure it cost some time to him but at 8th kilometer Pech was one second slower than Valoušek by my chronos so that it probably wasn't that much...

dimviii
19th April 2009, 15:31
for how many km Pech was back of Kresta?

Mirek
19th April 2009, 15:36
Some say five but I don't know... maybe we'll be given onboard.

Onboards are here, another ones will be given probably soon: http://www.mediasport.cz/videa/rok-2009 (ps don't download Kresta SS1, it's very dark)

if it is 5 km it s a lot of time wasted for Vaclav, considering that Kresta was on 3 tyres.
thanks Mirek for the info :)

Mirek

Some more info, Pech had clutch problems in first saturday section. Kresta with air mass sensor (they have to push the car into time check after SS4). This problem occured again in last two stages and the engine was working terribly after that.

Orsák had a small fire of electic wires (he retired at my spot), Peták had broken gearbox just in front of me again but in another stage.

Gavlák retired because of health reason. Gassner had some oil leak from engine in SS4 and after that he retired in narrow place, Štajf hit him (You can see Gassner standing in Trojan's onboard). Štajf was later given time by marschals although he broke steering rod and repaired it by some wire from the fence (there was service just after that).

Also a big crash for Šašek in Fabia on SS2. He is said to be in hospital. I don't have more info but he should be quite ok now.

thanks again Mirek.!
ii am waiting for Vaclavs incar from ss7 :D

Mirek
19th April 2009, 16:15
So another one :D

My friend was much closer to finish than me (axactly 5 km to finish and 17 from start). He was measuring time as well.

Kresta (with flat tyre) was there in time 0 but after few meters he made a spin because of that and had to turn around which cost 19 second to get back to the measuring place. In time 0:31 Pech was there. Valoušek in time -1 to Pech, Štajf in +5 to Pech. In this moment Pech had no troubles by Kresta.

Finish time of Pech was exactly same as Štajf and +9 to Valoušek. Therefore he in my opinion lost something between 5-10 seconds, not more.
