There must come question: Whats the plan of Jan ?erný? i dont except his sitting and waiting for the delayed Peugeot R5.

Mirek

It's just one MM?R event which he would need to skip and as far as I heard plenty of Czech drivers want to skip Jänner anyway - because of the date.

Any news on Prague Rallysprint? Is it going to happen? And if yes it is Sat 30 Nov. ?

Mirek

Yes, 30th November but it will be held only on Chuchle hypodrome. I'm not going there even it is 10 km from my home.

Actually I'll be in Prague these days for short vacations and it would be great to see some Czech Rallying for first time. I also don't like these kind of events but I am going to be there so ... :) Also I will not have a car so I will need help with how to get there.

Mirek
19th November 2013, 11:40
Aha, it's easy as there is a bus stop directly at the hypodrome. The name of the stop is "Zavodiste chuchle".

Here is a link for searching Prague public transport connections: http://www.dpp.cz/en/ You need to place there names of stops or stations. Those You can find for example in google map of Prague.

If You need any help, let me know. I have been living in Prague for eight years so I can give You some hints.

The gap between Jänner Rallye and Rallye Krumlov won't have a positive effect on the apperance of czech drivers at the Jänner Rallye. But on the Luther side Rallye Sumava in mid May could be quite nice.

I´d rate Jänner Rallye in some kind of critical situation now. Not only because of your reason, but also because of the bad situation of Austrian rally scene at the Moment, the even earlier date 2014 than in the years before, and some more reasons, as the hefty increase of the costs of the rally pass or the more and more unstable weather at this time of the year in Austria (a snow rally can´t be expected anymore). It´s also said that the organizers made a big financial loss in 2013, and they can´t change the date, because they´re all doing it in their Christmas Holidays (no professional organisation team).

So I wouldn´t bet for Jänner Rallye to be still part of the Czech Championship and ERC in 2015!

Mirek
23rd November 2013, 14:56
To be absolutely honest I think that most of Czech teams don't like to have Jänner in the Czech championship. In my opinion most of those who start would start anyway even without the event counting for MM?R.

René Münnich (Fabia II Rallycross Supercar) won Sosnová show ahead of Št?pán Vojt?ch (Fiesta WRC of Prokop). He was some one second faster over almost four minutes long two final laps. It was like a beast against a figure skater, so much different the two cars are :)

Great video of 2014 season of Petr Šimurda - one of our most spectacular drivers. Must watch for fans of RWD rallying! :)

http://vimeo.com/82089338

He described his Škoda "130LR" gr.V car in a recent interview. The engine is slightly modified Felicia Kit Car 1400 with 154 Hp. The gearbox is 6-speed sequential built in original casing. Suspension is Škoda 130LR upgraded with uniball joints and adjustable Protlum dampers. Front brakes are new, rear original 130LR. I guess the car may have around 800 kg.

Very nice. Respect he had kept the original car as much as possible and produced such nice Rally car. For RWD cars angine in the back has advantage for better traction I think.

Last year Czech Citroën team Gekon Racing gave a chance to young women to drive their DS3 R1 in Czech Rallysprint championship. Lucie ?ervenková who won the shootout was driving quite well but her workload doesn't allow her to continue in 2014. Therefore the new driver for the team is Barbora Holická who was second in the shootout last year. One difference is that for 2014 her DS3 R1 will take part in International Czech championship and will be counted into official Citroën Trophy. Her co-driver will be another young woman Jind?iška Žáková who was co-driving for example crazy Suzuki Ignis driver Ji?í Sojka in the past.

Very sad news came today. One of the most popular rallysprint events - Rallye Lužické Hory is canceled. So far there is no official statement but it looks like it is because of negative public opinion and refusal from local authorities following the chain of tragic events in Czech rallying.

Rally Lužické Hory was supposed to be second round of Czech rallysprint season and first in German-Polish-Czech Lausitz cup. The date was scheduled to 19th April.

For me personally it's sad as I have almost always come to spectate this event...

Entry list: http://www.valasskarally.eu/index.php/soutezici/pridelena-startovni-cisla?download=35:startovni-poradi-pdf

For me it's quite nice list. Some very good drivers there (Sýkora, Kahle, Habaj, Odložilík, Kořístka, Smékal etc.). Also very high quality of machines (3x WRC, 3x R5, 7 S2000 etc.)

Tomorrow at a quarter to ten the rally starts. Live results will be here: http://rally-base.com/2014/valasska-rally-2014/

As usually all stages are very fast, the most technical is SS5/6. SS1/3 is new but from google street view it seems to be a bit of an "airstrip" for me. Let's see.

One important thing is that Sýkora will start with Fabia S2000 instead of his Fiesta R5. The engine has not been repaired yet after the crash of Grössing in Austria.

I'm leaving in few hours. It's quite far :)

Sebastian Frycz is back in rallying. This name will most probably not tell you anything, because the Polish driver had a long break from this sport. But 10 years ago he was an expeptional talent on the Polish rally scene. Being just 20+ he was beating all experienced drivers in Polish championship. In his short career he managed to win Super 1600 championship:

http://foto.rallyonline.pl/GALERIA/jarekz/karkonoski2002/karkonoski38.jpg

two group N championships:

http://foto.rallyonline.pl/GALERIA/jarekz/polski2003/jz-rajdpolski13.jpg

and in 2003 he climbed to 2nd place overal in the Polish championship. Then he started to slow down and stopped his rally career after a few years of disappointments.

This year Frycz is back. Surprisingly, he will only drive 2 rallies in Poland. He will concentrate on Czech championship, where he is going to drive group N Subaru Impreza (without R4) from the ROTO Plzen team.

Surprising words of the team manager Petr Svoboda:

"For many years we were trying to support young Czech drivers. Unfortunately, it always ended with disappointment and a waste of money. Czech drivers seem to imagine our support for them in a wrong way. Therefore we changed our strategy. We support experienced driver, with whom we have good experiences from the past and who will appreciate our support. (...) It's a shame, that we can't give this chance to some Czech young talent, but we don't see any proper candidate"

I don't know what's wrong with Czech talents and I'm surprised that they support a "has been" driver, but I'm still happy for Frycz. His livery for this year will look like this:

Hmm... part of the blame might be on drivers (I guess they mean Šlehofer and Kopáček) but Roto and Mr. Svoboda are connected with some strange things (and strange PR) as well. It has also been a team with quite many exclusions for cheating in technical rules. Anyway good luck to Sebastian Frycz!

What to say about Valašská rally. Honestly for me as a spectator it was a disappointment. It was much better organized than in previous years. Everywhere I was it was supersafe as well but that's part of my problem with our recent rallying. It's simply boring for me to watch the stages from tens of meters. I think I chose quite good places but the feeling of excitement didn't come so we even decided to skip the last stage for a good meal...

On the other hand there were quite many spectators and they were very very disciplined (where I was). I even haven't met a single drunk one among hundreds. That's very positive!

The rally itself suffered from several big accidents which caused delays and also cancellation of stages for late runners. Fortunately almost all the crashes ended quite well for crews. Only one historic driver suffered serious injury when he was stuck in car with broken legs. Hopefully he can fully recover.

I was not really impressed by general driving level. Guys often have great machines but few can drive them properly. The fastest two drivers on places I was were clearly Sýkora and Habaj. Pity Habaj had some engine issues. He could have ended even better. Trněný was surprisingly fast for me, usually he drives slower. Kahle, Dohnal, Kořístka, Smékal, Bisaha, Zpěvák, Vraj, Kalista or Zedník were good to watch too. The biggest disappointment was Odložilík. I know they had problems with the car before start and they hardly managed to even start but also his driving was bad. Where Sýkora kept full throttle, Odložilík was lifting or even braking.

Some onboards: http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy.html

SS 5/6 is definitely the best one to watch ;)

Hi, I skipped night stages as I feel tired already. Lappi passed me at the end of SS4 running on 3 or maybe even 2 cylinders. Jakeš was driving very carefully, on the show stage he made a mistake and went straight in one corner.

By the way the weather was strange today. Although heavy rain was all over the country it stayed dry on stages untill I left after first loop. Now I don't know.

Watch time of Kalista with historic Legacy RS on RZ2!

Dohnal just crashed :(

PS DS3 R5 is lovely car by the look. Nicer than WRC for me!

OK, let's forget what happens elsewhere because Kalista went mad today with his half-gr.N historic Legacy RS!

After leg 1

1. Kopecký (Fabia S2000) 39:22,4
2. Pech (Mini S2000) +17,5
3. Jakeš (DS3 R5) +1:24,4
4. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +1:41,5
5. Jelínek (Fabia S2000) +2:45,7
6. Kalista (Legacy RS) +3:08,4 (!!!)
7. Frycz (Impreza STI gr.N) +3:13,5
8. Tlusťák (Fiesta R5) +3:17,3
9. Štajf (Impreza STI gr.N) +3:30,9
10. Vlček (Fabia S2000) +3:31,5

Odložilík also retired with engine problems (he was complaining whole day about low power). Tlusťák broke wheel on the first morning stage (most likely wet and muddy with with fog). Pech took 7 seconds from Kopecký there. Koči had a minor off and lost the 2WD lead to Smékal.

Now usually decisive stage Malonty ahead (although shorter than the most legendary variant).

How an old Subaru Legacy can be 5th overall

Mirek
3rd May 2014, 12:39
He is now 4th after Jelínek retired with broken steering (I guess he hit an infamous rock on that stage which caused plenty of retirements and punctures in the past). Kalista is now probably highest placed historic driver ever in our national events. Hopefully he keeps it till the end!

Tom, there are several reasons. First is really big number of retirements. Second is that historic cars can drive with proper rain tyres unlike modern ones (it's raining today). At least I think it's like that. And the last one and the most important is that Kalista is better driver than many of those with modern cars.

By the way the Legacy is half-group N car. Kalista once said he had gr.A engine (but with 34 mm restrictor according Czech rules - he said he had little over 280 Hp with it) but he had no money for Gr.A gearbox which starts a chain of gr.N parts on the car - for gr.N gearbox there are gr.N driveshafts, for them gr.N uprights...

Another thing is that he is eating all the mud from modern cars today. Especially in first passes it's disadvantage for him.

By the way the temperature on SS13/14 must be close to zero even now and I bet it was bellow zero in the night (in upper parts).

Mirek
3rd May 2014, 12:54
Edit: Historic event is one stage shorter, so Kalista has no chance to write history of Czech rallying :(

Mirek

I think that one particular problem is that Kopecký is driving very few rallies now. Hell, his last asphalt event was Croatia last year. That's more than half a year already! Add that he has always been much faster in dry conditions than in wet...

Final results

1. Pech (Mini S2000) 1:35:40,3
2. Jakeš (DS3 R5) +3:12,9
3. Štajf (Impreza STI gr.N) +6:44,0

7. Smékal (DS3 R3T) +9:07,9
8. Votava (Evo IX gr.N) +9:14,5
9. Adolf (Fabia S2000) +10:47,0
10. Firla (Impreza STI gr.N) +10:57,3

The carnage... Lappi (Fabia S2000) - engine, Kopecký (Fabia S2000) - accident, Odložilík (Fiesta R5) - engine, Jelínek (Fabia S2000) - accident, Dohnal (207 S2000) - accident, Tlusťák (Fiesta R5) - accident, Kurka (Fabia S2000) - accident, Trojan (Evo IX gr.N) - engine, Gryc (Evo IX gr.N) - accident...

For record results after SS13 when historics ended.

Frycz was good and nice to watch but frankly all gr.N drivers were shadowed by Jiří Kalista in historic Legacy who was constantly faster than all them. It's kinda funny to read a speech of Štajf how they fulfilled their task to be fastest Subaru in finish when the only reason for that was historics ending one stage earlier (those double events again!) :)

But, if as you say, the rain tyres allowed in historics are much better and there was a lot of rain, then that would make a significant difference. Either way, really he deserved 3rd overall if they had let him finish the whole course...

True, only rallysprints and historic championship allow use of old-style tyres. MMČR must be run with ERC ones. In Rallye Český Krumlov FIA stewards after a big pressure allowed hand-cutting and from driver's comments it looks like at least today cutting is allowed too.

By the way Odložilík has been having all the time same engine management issues in Valašská rally, Český Krumlov and now Šumava. Meanwhile Jelínek went off from 4th place (just stuck off). He crashed on SS Malenice which is for me one of the best and toughest Czech stages. Petr Hozák is now fourth and leading gr.N. He returned on Rallye Český Krumlov after five years absence. Have to say I'm impressed by him. On the other hand it shows how the level of our rallying went down in last two years. It would be completely impossible three-four years back...

I can understand the reason about Martin Semerád, but this 3 other drivers don't have enough budget to compete I think? The same about the 'good old' Emil Triner also or did he stopped with rallying?

Is Kalista so good or is the ERC Historic level of drivers very low?

Mirek
18th May 2014, 10:00
The reason for Kopáček and Bujáček is at least partially similar to Semerád. Kopáček had number of big accidents and in the last one a spectator died (Barum rally 2012) and after that he never drove again. Bujáček's family were organizers of Rallyshow Uherský Brod where 4 spectators died in an accident in 2012. After that he doesn't drive anymore. With Běhálek I think the reason is financial, same with Triner I guess.

About Kalista - he can't be compared to ERC as he is driving a car non-conform with ERC rules. Czech rules allow cars up to 1990 in historic championship but ERC only till 1985 or so I think. It was raining on many stages of Šumava so he had a big advantage of 4WD. Anyway the ERC competition on Rallye Vltava this time was one of the weakest ever. Too early after Targa Florio...

few questions..
Tlusťák went off because of the ds3's setup too hard on the bump but in a very rugged way...I didn't understand from the video..did he crash on the tree or only on the high grass? Was the car reported to be affected by any issue after that?

Along the stage seems to me that on 6 gear he was on unsafe driving mode..he lifted off in various points...maybe the bumpy road vs harsh ds3 setting?
thanks

The car wasn't damaged except the front bumper I believe, it was just stuck. Later he was setting quite good times considering his skills. He is not a top driver but he knows these roads by heart as he lives there (just like half of top 10).

The list of modern cars is quite disappointing. Without Škoda taking there their crews it would be just ordinary national event. Bohemia used to be more. On the other hand I'm surprised to see Sandro Munari in Legend show! For spectators it definitely worth to stay for all cars as there are very fast drivers even in historics (Kalista for example) or in legends (Janota for example).

Maybe in recent years the focus for Czech rallying has moved more towards Barum because of it's IRC and then ERC status?

Mirek
5th July 2014, 18:14
Bohemia used to have quite a lot of money in the past and they paid many Scandinavian crews to come (at least I believe so). There were later several changes in the event leadership and also the financial situation got worse with all that mess in Czech rallying. It's not so long time a go when they tried for WRC or at least IRC. That was in time when IRC was strongest and Barum therefore as well. I don't think Barum popularity has any real impact on Bohemia situation. It's completely different part of country, completely different sponsors etc. I guess it has more to do with the overall bad situation in our rallying.

PLuto
5th July 2014, 19:01
In the past, foreign drivers were going to Bohemia because they had good financial conditions from organiser, was persuaded by strong persons (like John Haugland) or the rally was part of some other championship (Polish championship, DRS, European Cup). This year Rally Bohemia is only part of Czech championship, no other series. I dont know if there is date clash with similar event in Norway or Denmark. Another problem is, that in other national championships there is less money than in the past and for crews is more difficult to go abroad.

Yes, first start after two years... We'll see if that is just one shot or something more...

Organizers of Rally Příbram finally confirmed that the rally will be held despite all difficulties. Good thing is that the best stage - Vystrkov is back.

After some time I'm glad to say that I visited a perfect rally in CZ. Great battle till the last meter, nice entry list, spectacular places, quite friendly taping and marshals and what is probably most important a LOT of spectators :)

1. Tarabus (Fabia S2000) 41:59,5
2. Kahle (Fabia WRC) +0,3
3. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +4,8
4. Orsák (Fabia S2000) +14,3
5. Tomaštík (Impreza WRC S12) +31,0
6. Sýkora (Fabia S2000) +37,3
7. Vlček (Fabia S2000) +1:02,5
8. Dohnal (207 S2000) +1:26,9
9. Kalista (Legacy RS) +1:53,9 (he had some troubles, but especially his 4th time overall on the last stage is remarkable!)
10. Zimmermann (Impreza STI N12) +2:02,0

15. Kopáček (Impreza STI) +3:03,2 (after 2 years long pause)

2WD
16. Peták (Clio R3) +3:05,2
17. Rujbr (Clio R3) +3:21,5
18. Černý (208 R2) 3:35,9
19. Vopatřil (Fabia R2) +3:38,5 (great performance!)
20. Kašpar (Octavia Kit Car!) +3:41,2

Some retirements: Trněný (Fabia WRC) - turbo, Hozák (Evo IX) - crash, Smékal (DS3 R3) - crash

On the other hand Pačejov confirmed the trend that rallysprint events are much nicer for spectators than common MMČR ones.
