Yes, for me it was really great. Only some crazy fast places and really hard pushing of many crews (Kopecký, Kresta, Valoušek, Pech, Tarabus, Habaj, Bujáček and others). We also saw a big crash of Orsák. Fortunately they are ok but they broke a tree by driver's side (a hi-speed spin after a flat out corner over a crest)...

Yes, and both years Kresta was privateer and Valoušek official works driver...

Not to forget Valousek only discovered his 207 in race condition in Valasska ;)

Yes, but Valousek also already drove a 207 S2000 from Kronos in the Barum Rally in 2008.

How can the performance of the Fabia R2 be evaluated?

The car definitely is fast. Tarabus was fighting with Dunovský in Ignis S1600 for 2WD victory but on last stage he had engine problem. Second car driven by Dušan Kouřil was 2nd in 2WD which is very good considering Kouřil drives only one or two events per year. Anyway Tarabus was driving like mad!

It's a pity that there was no other driver in 2WD car of similar quality to Tarabus but Dunovský isn't slow at all. By sight it's clear that Fabia has better gearing for asphalt stages than C2 and also more torque is visible. There is still some work on suspension.

Kresta's one is No.44, Kopecký's one I don't know but should be new also. Odložilík's one is No.34, ex 11R 0118 and 599 S9E. Not sure if I remember correctly.

That's normal, many teams here register their cars in Slovakia (also some Hungarian teams do so).

"Before the last section we changed gearbox for one with different final drive. Our mechanics showed visitors a master concert when they managed to do so in just 25 minutes. We are looking forward that FIA soon authorize a delayed homologation of new improvement of production cars to R4. That could give us a chance to speed up our Mitsubishi already for next event which is Rally Šumava held in just two weeks."

Fiscal advantage I presume, even JDR John Deconinck Racing does that with his Lancers :D a guy who's known to be fast but also one who likes to cheat..

I don't see Jan Kopecky on entrylist, is he not driving in Sumava? It is on weekend before Canarias right? Would be good preparation.

Last weekend a big historic party took place around Prague. It was called Rally Praha Revival and was held as a regularity event with several show stages. I was present with my friend in three circuit stages at the airfield near Příram. Altogether there were 120 cars both competition ones and stock cars. Many names were great drivers from the past like Blahna, Štolfa, Zapadlo, Berger etc. Between stages we could also witnessed a short drive of an ancient Bugatti 35B race car which is truly amazing machine with it's eight cylinder in-line supercharged engine! Here You can see few photos of my friend.

In the end I can say that most probably we'll see Jindřich Štolfa again this year with his newly built red Škoda 130L/A. And I hope about the same for Vladimír Berger with Škoda 130RS from Seznam.cz team.

Mechanics of Václav Pech are currently rebuilding his Evo IX to R4. It looks like he will use only lighter body parts and glasses in Šumava because they don't have time to test new suspension. They will use it for next round after some serious testing is done.

Maybe it's good to say few words about character of stages. SS1 is traditional circuit but mostly very wide road with many looong straights, few chicanes and one hairpin. SS2/4 is most technical one of this leg. Especially last part is difficult downhill with many natural hairpins. SS3/5 was said to be a motorway from chicane to chicane by Peták. I think that it's case especially of it's middle part.

Tomorrow stages are more twisty with a lot of gravel and dust on them.

Unfortunately it's true. Jiří Skoupil died in an accident on stage 2 after he hit a big tree by left side of his car. His co-driver Jiří Volf is in stable condition and his life is safe. Drivers decided not to start into second leg.

Jiří Skoupil was 46 years old. He started with rallying rather late, in 2000 for the first time he drove Nissan Sunny GTi in Rallysprint Kopná. This year he changed his usual Fiat Punto S1600 for Citroën C2 S1600. Among his successes we can find fifth place overall in Valašská Rally 2006, sixth place overall in Rally Třebíč 2005 or a victory in IRC 2WD cup in Barum Rally 2009.

That is a very fast time for Sýkora in SS1.

That was mistake of timekeepers. But still Sýkora was pushing like mad. It's his home event and especially last half-gravel stage is something he loves :)

Valda out . Also not very convincing times for Odložilik in a superior car

Valda retired just in front of me. It was blown turbo (a turbo blade went loose and broke out of the housing). Already before he had problems with clutch which cost him some ten seconds on start of SS2.

Yes, Profiko and again turbo like in previous event. Tarabus said that he made a spin on SS1 and since than makes a mistake after mistake. Anyway quite surprising winner - well done Roman Odložilík! I think that he should keep driving Fabia cause in Xsara WRC he is too cautious...

I also agree with the demand for Czech WRC round - if they want it, they definitely deserve it. Rally Bohemia still aiming for candidate event?

On Krumlov, no Kopecky on the list. Yalta clash? What was his initial program for MMCR. Krumlov is a three-way fight now with Valousek, Kresta and Pech jr. It's nice that each are in a different make. Is Pech's car full-spec R4 by now?

It's quite rare but not new in our rallies. Some organizations used to do like that before.

Regarding the WRC round I believe that we will see it on Rally Bohemia stages in few years.

As for battle for victory in Cesky Krumlov in my opinion Kresta is main favorite because when he started in top class car (even against Kopecky in works Fabia WRC)...

Big attack of Kresta on SS4!

Short summary of drivers thoughts after SS3.

No problems for Pech, just off the pace of the top. Valousek one overshoot on SS3 with little damage to the car (hit a house). Kresta safe on SS2 but too slow according to his meaning. Tlustak surprised by his times, said feeling was very slow. Odlozilik on totally wrong tyres (media on rear). Štajf cautious, Peták scared by aquaplaning on many places. Arazim had spare slicks and had a puncture on SS2, so drove SS3 on wrong combination of tyres. Běhálek relaxed and happy. Orsák problems with fogged windshield. Triner happy although he said he is a bit scared on water. Bujacek technical problems. Cerny had medium tyres and big off on SS3. Slehofer learing 4WD. Votava very unhappy with his driving. Dunovsky in SS2 overshoot, stalled engine and fogged windscreen. Kouril very happy with the car and surprised by his time on SS2.

Funny thing on SS6 from statistic point of view. In last 4 years it's always same legendary stage Malonty on Saturday morning only in different variants. And 3x from 4 years Kresta won it by same gap 17+-0,5 seconds :D

Some info after first leg. Tlustak out - engine. Triner small problems with too old dampers. Kresta was off on SS5. Petak like always blind in the dark. Orsak still fogged windscreen (still doesn't have R4 heated one and the air ventilation works bad in R4). Votava puncture on SS4. Mifka smoke in the car. Trojan problems with flat-shift. Stajf cautious after scary crash last year on same stage as SS4 into logs. Pech said he's slow but don't know why. Behalek ok, Valousek understands penalty...

Next stage is by large part completely new one.

Info after SS9:

Kresta happy with his attack on SS6 and changes to setup, now safe mode. Valousek disappointed by his nervous driving today. Pech feels he is little scared in fast sections. Behalek ok except stage SS8 which he doesn't like. Odlozilik suffers from flu. Orsak broken driveshaft on SS7, 8, 9; now retired with brake problems. Stajf hit a birch on SS7 and a concrete on spectator stage, no big damage. Votava off on SS7 and problems with fuel pump on SS8 and 9. Petak careful and not comfortable feeling. Arazim tries to catch Votava. Vlcek says he can't believe how fast are others on classic stages which he doesn't know that good (first start here). Triner tries to keep Cerny behind him and not to make a puncture. Tucek tired and not happy. Kouril said he overslept the morning and can't catch rhythm. Cerny tries to catch Triner but he doesn't like SS8 at all. Bujacek nothing to fight for, cruise mode. Mifka engine problems.

Reason for Tlustak's retirement may have been water in electrics.

Very nice driving by R. Kresta. He really knows how to drive in wet conditions and make rain setup for his Fabia.

By the way zero car for Bohemia city stage. Laurint & Klement (original name of Škoda Auto) model 300 "Mákina". Only one piece was build and no-one knows when (rebuild of a limousine dated around 1920). It is original car from Škoda Museum. 4.7 litre I4 SV with 105 Hp and 4-speed gearbox.

Most of Barum stages are reasonably different from Hustopeče stages. This event is traditionally strong point of Pech's season mostly thanks to the character of stages.

Pech isn't international driver. He starts outside CZ very rarely and when, it's never in some high-profile event. I think the only exception was Antibes 2003 where he was 10 minutes behind Thiry in comparable car.

By the way Kresta and Pech drove almost 3 seasons against each other with same Evo IX from same team. Pech won four times - once Kresta crashed while leading (Šumava 2007) once Kresta changed tyre on stage (Barum 2007 - but he almost caught Pech anyway), twice Kresta had problems with overheating and run without ALS (Třebíč, Hustopeče 2008). Never Pech defeated Kresta when both had Evo IX in a clean run for the second.

So yes, Pech is very good local specialist but he is no superstar, especially not international.

By the way Kresta and Pech drove almost 3 seasons against each other with same Evo IX from same team. Pech won four times - once Kresta crashed while leading (Šumava 2007) once Kresta changed tyre on stage (Barum 2007 - but he almost caught Pech anyway), twice Kresta had problems with overheating and run without ALS (Třebíč, Hustopeče 2008). Never Pech defeated Kresta when both had Evo IX in a clean run for the second.

So yes, Pech is very good local specialist but he is no superstar, especially not international.
I meant if he's driving in Barum against IRC it's on International Level eventhough it's in his own country. But when saying that u can say that Vd Heuvel is a better Gr N driver in Ypres he seems to be unbeatable and in Deutschland rally it was the same.

Kopecky setting three besttimes in a rough, at stage 7 he is again massively faster as the rest, building out his lead, wich is now almost half a minute compared to second place man Pech.

Mirek-as much I respect you as a true rallye expert, I can not agree with you how you underestimate Pech and his fight with evo9 against S2000 drivers. Yust stand close to evo9&X and to S2000 car. Evo's are still evolution from a normal, road car, they already look havier, less agile..compare to a true racing car, build with yust one purpose: to be the first on each rally stage! And there were millions spent for yust this purpose. So, IMHO every driver with N4 car, who achives similar stage stimes (or even faster...) as a fast S2000 driver is a real hero for me. And we all know, that this upgrade R4 parts are yust a blow in the wind...Until N4 car get's bigger restrictor and sequential gearbox, they are not on equal technical level.....And even then, the chassis itself from S2000 car is better than from a road car.

I really don't like these roads. Almost only straights and slow corners... Yesterday I watched onboard of Kopecký from SS2 and he drove 33 seconds non-stop in rpm limiter in one part, that is over 1,5 km (it wasn't completely straight but still)...

By the way Kresta took wrong tyres this morning but still I think he can't catch Pech but who knows..

I don't think it is their decision but of Mr. Varmuža who is paying that.

EDIT: They claimed the reason for retirement is that the penalty was given only today during second leg but not yesterday when the incident happened.

What a crazy last stage. Kresta kept the second place but behind... Štajf crashed and both Fabias R2 retired on same kilometer of last stage with broken driveshaft and Štefan's Clio is burning so the stage was stopped...

Indeed, before he drove in a Corolla WRC and he couldn't get a top 20 result with that car. I have postcards from his Corolla WRC and Corolla S2000. :)

His Corolla WRC wasn't real WRC in fact. That was a homemade car which looked like WRC but technically it was based on Celica I believe. This S2000 however is real S2000.

SS1/5 is almost completely downhill with only one junction. That's why Černý is so fast there. On other stages I think there must be a lot of dirt on the road as I know them (also gravel part on SS4/8).

It looks like DMack asphalt tyres are really good from Semerád's times.

Now Tarabus crashed on SS6 and Peták retired with broken engine. Jakeš attacking Dohnal and Kahle...
