First onboards are in: http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy.html

Guys, watch theseonboards!

http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy/7575.html (if You wonder why Pech is able to be faster than Kopecký...)
http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy/7577.html (extra hard stage)
http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy/7596.html (Pech again, total confidence)

Μirek i cant watch properly the videos,it stops and go all the time.
Can you explain what do you mean by saying ''why Pech is fable to be faster''?

I don't know where is the problem, I watched them on three different computers with different OS and browsers and they always worked

The reason is that his driving in those onboards reminds a video game. He makes not even a slightest mistake or hesitation and is absolutely perfect from start to finish. No moment, no useless drifting, not a single correction of pacenotes. In fact it looks like circuit driving after hundreds of laps. It's true that all these stages are classics which he did many times before but still it's very impressive.

The onboard of Kopecký is not like that. It's true that the stage is definitely harder and also very muddy but still he makes a lot of corrections in pacenotes, drives less smooth and sometimes even complains about something (like about the rear axle behavior at one moment).

Pech does indeed look impressively smooth, and surprising to hear Kopecky sound quite angry at one point on SS3! I guess he is not satisfied with the setup of his Fabia yet.. did they allow him to experiment during Krumlov?

Let's not forget Kopecky's puncture on SS6 though, without that he would have won even without Pech's mistake.

Very unusual timetable of Rally Bohemia is released. The event will start on Saturday afternoon and the second loop of traditional northern stages will take place in the night. I'm not so old but I don't remember that. After that the whole Sunday will be run in the near surroundings of Mladá Boleslav.

The event will be counted into Czech Championship, European Historic Championship, Czech-German-Polish Regional Rally Cup and Czech Historic Rally Championship. Together with that there will be a legend show run on the stages. Latest news is that Czech Opel Adam Cup was added as well.

Some small things... Valoušek uses racing fuel for the first time and Jakeš is on Pirelli. Tarabus was only testing setup for Ypres. He retired after four stages (planned and announced already before start). He didn't want to damage the car and even didn't do full recce.

According to some rumors from ewrc Pech chose soft rain setup and soft tyres with cuts but the roads stayed nearly dry for these two stages and his tyres are gone.

Here a photo of Kopecký's puncture from yesterday with a little fire. Source is ewrc-results.

Rollercoaster continues. Pech lost another half a minute with destroyed tyres on SS7 but he kept at least second place as Valoušek lost nearly a minute (clutch). Jakeš seems to be out (probably power steering failure - second time in a row).

Kopecky this guy has unlimited luck!

It is not luck, Pech made a mistake.

Kopecky is not always the quickest driver out there but he gets results. I don't know whether it's a concious tactic or whether his approach just naturally yields results.

its plenty of times when Kopecky looses so much and not being able for win, something happens to faster crews. From irc days same and same again.

But do you believe in luck? Kopecky could probably drive faster too but then maybe he would make mistakes.

I know for example that Lappi is a faster driver but Kopecky won APRC when Lappi did not, and I believe Kopecky would have won ERC again last year too had he been there.

Mirek
20th June 2015, 15:07
Kopecký is ideal number two driver as he always delivers. He makes very rarely mistakes, nearly never crashes and in the same time is reasonably fast. If IRC had WRC rules he would be several times champion as well. Only thanks to the rules the faster but much less reliable guys won and Kopecký ended four times in a row second.

dimviii

@wasnt a driver mistake,but wrong tyre choice,he rarely does.
Lappi does mistakes so your theory yes its right, but Pech very rarely.

RS
20th June 2015, 15:29
I would like to add though that I'm not yet convinced by the pace of the Fabia R5 on Czech asphalt. Kopecky won all three but the last two were a struggle, I don't remember it being this tough with the S2000 and I thought the R5 would be quicker.

Some work to do on the suspension setup still maybe?

Mirek
20th June 2015, 16:15
It was similar with the S2000 during last year when Kopecký did only two events here. Pech was faster in both Český Krumlov and Bohemia. In first case Kopecký crashed and in the second Pech crashed and therefore both won once. We shall also consider that Pech won Barum rally. He has been extremely fast in last two years. On the other hand Pech has done quite a number of mistakes in Mini as he is pushing quite extremely. It's not true that he would be flawless.

Mirek
20th June 2015, 16:19
Anyway final results. Kopáček finally made it to the finish and won class 3 (after two retirements from leading position in previous events). This time he won even with similar tyre mistake like Pech.

1. Kopecký (Fabia R5) 1:26:03,8
2. Pech (Mini S2000) +45,1
3. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +1:04,0
4. Valoušek (Fabia S2000) +1:19,9
5. Jelínek (Fabia S2000) +3:00,8
6. Cvrček (Octavia WRC) +5:02,1
7. Kurka (Mini S2000) +5:28,5
8. Kopáček (Impreza STI gr.N) +5:46,2
9. Březík (Evo IX gr.N) +5:55,3
10. Pešl (Evo IX gr.N) +6:06,2

Major retirements: Jakeš (DS3 R5) - driveshaft, Dohnal (Focus WRC) - gear shifting, Tarabus (Fabia S2000) - planned testing only for four stages, Vlček (Fabia S2000) - accident, Trněný (Fabia WRC) - mechnical problem

I don´t know why people from Skoda motorsport don´t want to work on setup. This time it was same song. They had in plan only two runs of shakedown and after that there was autograph session in plan. Just because of the rain during shakedown and possibility of rain on Saturday they allow Kopecky to do more runs thru shakedown.

Kopecky was probably the most spectacular tbh.. maybe I am expecting too much and actually both Pech and Kopecky are both damn fast. Pech's car is probably at the top of it's development curve now and he might have a slight tyre advantage too.

Mirek
24th June 2015, 10:33
I think that Pech's main advantage is the work of his spies who check every ditch, every corner by walking and he knows perfectly what he can run though or over without risk. In my opinion it went too far in this moment as he often ignores anti-cutting obstacles which others respect. Regarding cars it's still as I said after Šumava - Pech's Mini has better suspension/setup while Fabia R5 clearly has more power. Just heck the onboards and You must notice how different the two cars are.

Yes, one thing i noticed is that the Fabia dives and locks up under braking a lot more, but all R5s do that to some extent.

I am impressed that Pech has been able to find a set up which deals so well with bumpy Czech roads without much roll or dive.

Mirek, how would you comment Š.Vojtech? I observed his times closley and interesting his times in the 1.leg were average (lost far more than 1sec/km), but in the second leg his times improved significantly.
He was at the end even faster than Voloušek....not bad for a guy who had a long break in his career, not to mention a "historical" P206....

Stepan Vojtech is not bad driver. And he is from that region, so he knows the stages very well. He was also sitting in Peugeot 206 WRC last years during Rally Legend. And second leg was much more faster than first one, more suitable for WRC cars. But he has made really good rally.

What Pluto said is accurate. The difference between first and second leg is likely in the stage character. First leg was very twisty, narrow, full of blind corners while the second leg was held on wide fast opened roads.

Mr. Jírovec (owner of Invelt and Pech's Mini) confiormed what has been circulating as a rumor already for some time. Pech will drive Porsche RGT next year. I don't know if at home or abroad (more logical).

Great result for Růžička.

9th August 2015, 10:42
It's due to the new rules. There is no champion title from sprints anymore. It's more like a cup only and it's meant for 2WD cars. 4WD go only in another separate cup (P2+). Together with the new rules in main championship which now allow WRC cars everybody from top drivers prefers naturally the big championship.

Rally Jeseníky had a nice battle till the end. For example Dohnal in the last stage moved from 4th to 2nd and the drivers from 2nd to 4th finished all in 0,6 seconds! From 8 stages 3 were won by Dohnal, 1was won by Odložilík, 2 by Kurka, 1 by Trněný and 1 by Tomaštík. Kurka retired due to broken driveshaft of his Mini WRC. This was his home event and also probably his best driving ever.

1. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) 40:34,3
2. Dohnal (Focus WRC) +10,1
3. Trněný (Fabia WRC) +10,6 (10 seconds penalty)
4. Tomaštík (Impreza WRC S12B) +10,8
5. Vlček (Fabia S2000) +29,0
6. Kukučka (Fiesta R5) +1:21,0
7. Ševčík (Evo IX gr.N) +1:35,4
8. Pešl (Evo IX gr.N) +1:53,3

13. Vopatřil (208 R2) +3:22,2

It was really nice event once again, I've seen some crazy moments in a tricky corner with lot of mud. Zero car even managed to roll there.
Trněný could have won the rally, but on start to SS6 his engine stalled two times. For the first section, Peták had hard tires, more suitable for SS3 and SS4. Unfortunately for him the stage was cancelled because of accident so he did not benefit from the hard tires enough. On SS5 he had quite a big moment, high speed spin, and maybe lost the concentration after that.

Difficult conditions today, fog, mud, wet and dry places, all on really difficult stages... Nevertheless very nice battle, for example in the last stage all top 4 crews were in 0,7 seconds! In the end Tomaštík with Impreza WRC won, Koči who returned to Fiesta R5 was closely second and Tempestini with Fiesta WRC finished third. Second and third place therefore went to our foreign guests. Valoušek unfortunately retired because of failed brakes. He did very good time on SS1 with gr.N Evo though. Dohnal and Trněný were off the pace this time.

In finish:

1. Tomaštík (Impreza WRC S12B) 40:14,2
2. Koči (Fiesta R5) +3,4
3. Tempestini (Fiesta WRC) +17,4
4. Jakeš (DS3 R5) +32,5
5. Melichárek (Fiesta WRC) +36,3

I don't know what is exactly happening. The organization blames ASN for giving them bad date in which they claim can't organize the rally (in May). The ASN says that the organizer informed them about his financial issues which might force him not to organize the event. And than there is a dispute between Škoda and the town of Mladá Boleslav over the level of real estate taxes in the town. The town rose the tax by 100% for 2016 which for Škoda means to pay something like 1,5 million Euro extra. People say that škoda is very angry as it kept financing a lot of sport or cultural events in the town together with some reconstructions of building or streets and that the prevailing opinion is "fuck it, they have extra 1,5 million, so they can spend it instead". I don't know where is the truth. Time will tell I guess.

Vojtěch Štajf switches for Fabia R5. He will do Czech events with it. Hopefully more support from Subaru for Kopáček instead (just my wish).

Preliminary calendar of Czech Opel Adam Cup. I guess only one leg counts in the two-day events but it has to be confirmed.

15. - 16.4. Valašská Rally
13. - 14.5. Rally Vyškov
02. - 03.7. Rally Bohemia
29. - 30.7. Rally Pačejov
26. - 27.8. Barum Rally Zlín
16. - 17.9. Rally Jeseníky
30.9. - 1.10. Rally Příbram
21. - 22.10. 3 Stadte Rally

...much more slovak rally news, because the MM team has at the moment budget just for slovak rally championship. (because it is slovak team with czech driver Valousek) Of course they will try to find money and run also czech rally championship, but nothing confirmed yet. According to Jan Kopecký Czech GT cars won't have classic restrictors in 2016. They only need to show dyno protocol with maximum 300 kW (408 Hp). So far 4 Porsche 997 are known but except Pech nobody able to be on top of the leaderboard.

Another interesting information from the magazin is that Sýkora will drive Fabia R5.

Thank God we got Ewrc! According to them, Miss Rendlova has been codriving since 2010 with some nice results on regional level, and this will be her second season with Kopacek on czech national series.

Best luck to Barbara. It would be great see her getting to WRC!

(It may sound a bit sexist, but if we take Kournikova role on WTA revamp I think we all agree that having more pretty and talented girls driving or codriving at WRC would be a nice progress).

Yep, she even ‘sings’ the notes in a nice way!

Seriously: FIA must get a proper program to promote women active participation on motorsport. We’ve been seeing a growing numbers of girls getting involved at rally or racing, mainly thanks to ASN’s friendly policies, but there’s no real help from FIA to make them get into top motorsport international series. It’s a shame.

Final results

1. Černý (Fabia S2000) 42:39,5 (won 7 out of 8 stages)
2. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +32,1 (5 sec penalty) (already upgraded to Evo but complained about lack of power)
3. Vlček (Fabia WRC) +1:01,8 (20 sec penalty) (complained about no testing)
4. Kristiansen (Fabia S2000) +1:31,1
5. Březík (Evo IX gr.N) +1:45,7
6. Pešl (Evo IX gr.N) +2:38,8
7. Adolf (Fabia S2000) +2:48,5
8. Trnovec (Fabia S2000) +3:22,1 (5 sec penalty)
9. Smékal (DS3 R3T) +3:35,1
10. Šikl (Evo IX gr.N) +3:44,1 (10 sec penalty)

Most notable retirement is Ševčík (Evo IX gr.N who retired after SS3 from 6th place only 6 seconds behind Březík).

With the new organization everything seems to work a lot better but let's wait with quick judgements.

Yesterday it was 40 years since Roman Kresta was born - in a house next to the road which would later become a stage Kopná with which his entire rally life is bound. He was one of several drivers who managed to get from nothing up to the works WRC team. As a young man from a common family without any rallying background he started his career as a mechanic in a small local team. First time he tried to drive with a Škoda Favorit in Horácká rally 1994. His main characteristic is perfectionism, his ability to work incredibly hard and to go deep into every problem. He spent incredible time studying how stuff works. Later he drove Felicia first in the narrow version and then the Kit Car.

In 2000 Škoda Motorsport gave him a chance to drive their Octavia WRC and Roman used it winning the Czech title and being the youngest ever driver to win the ERC Barum Rally. Next year he repeated the Czech title although he started in only four events. On the other hand he had a chance to try first WRC events and it proved to be a really tough challenge. Two technical problems and two accidents caused him not to finish a single event.

2002 season started with one of the most spectacular crashes in the rallying history. Roman's Octavia hanging upon a ridge on the telegraph pole is something what probably every rally fan have seen at least once. Overal the WRC season wasn't anything special to speak about. For next season Roman moved to French team Bozian Racing in which he felt like in a family as he once said. His best result was 8th place in Wales. It's worth mentioning that in that time it was out of 28 starters with WRC cars.

2004 season started with a hell ride on the icy roads of Monte Carlo with a privately entered Hyundai Accent WRC. Sadly a technical problem stopped him from reaching the finish. He was battling all the time for 6-7th place among 21 WRC cars. Another two starts in WRC ended with crashes - another famous one crashing into the standing car of Dani Solá (from 8th place of 23 WRC) and the second one in Germany in his return into Škoda works car. He was leading Škoda driver getting up to the 5th place of 23 WRC drivers with seriously underpowered first evolution of Fabia WRC.

2005 was the year. Roman was number two driver of Ford works team in their transition season. The expectations were high and sadly the pressure from sponsors was too high for Roman. Started well in Monte Carlo but a ripped wheel off spoiled the show. At least he is forever written in the list of people who managed to win the most famous stage over the Col de Turini. The first half of the season didn't go well, the worst moment was a big accident in shakedown of New Zaeland. Than came a story with changing co-drivers once and back. Anyway the second half of the season went reasonably well but sadly there was no will of the sponsors to continue.

2006 was a big downfall. Roman spent most of the time with development testing in M-Sport. He drove the useless Fiesta S1600 in BRC. The only positive highlihg was his only start at home. First time with production car he easily won Barum Rally, for the third time. In 2007 he was doing things like setting cars for Argentinian Ford drivers but without his own drive. He did only four events in CZ, all with gr.N car.He won Bohemia and Český Krumlov, crashed from first place in Šumava. His main highlight which restarted his career came in now IRC Barum rally. He lost 2:45 with changing tyre in SS2 but finished 4th only 2:28 behind the winning works Peugeot team.

2008 brought another Czech title with gr.N car but the main challenge IRC Barum rally stayed undefeated. Having rented a Peugeot 207 S2000 he crashed very hard in stage Pindula. 2009 another Czech title and 4th place in IRC Barum rally as the top scoring private driver behind Kopecký, Meeke and Hänninen. 2009 brought another milestone - Kresta Racing team was established, now one of the best and biggest teams in Czech republic. 2010 was a busy season. Some fun starts with gr.N car all around the world (the highlight being 6th place overall in IRC Cyprus Rally), Czech rallysprint title with gr.N car against WRC but only 4th place in Czech championship and another heavy accident in Barum rally - again with renting a new car for just this rally - Fabia S2000.

2011 and another Czech title, this time after a hard fight with his arch rival Pech but "only" 8th place in very strongly entered Barum rally. 2012 season brought back Škoda works team into CZech championship and Jan Kopecký managed to defeat Roman. Despite that Roman showed once more he can still drive when he finished second in Barum rally behind Juho Hänninen. It shall be also mentioned that Roman helped Škoda works team with the developepment of the S2000 car.

2013 and 2014 were kind of farewell seasons with only several starts. Roman managed to finish 5th in Barum 2013 coming back even stronger for one-shot Barum rally 2014. Sadly a stupid technical problem (cracked exhaust manifold) stopped him while leading the rally. Since 2015 Roman doesn't drive anymore, moreover after his long time co-driver Petr Gross suffered very serious injury in a rally accident from which he hasn't recovered. But there's still a hope that we could see him again behind the wheel. Last year before Barum rally he drove the Fabia R5 of Jaromír Tarabus in the test to help him with setup. He was very happy about the car and his words gave a hope he might try once more with this car. He has two in his team now so maybe...

Recently Roman Kresta lives in Luhačovice, close to Barum rally center Zlín, has a family and two children. His main job is preparing cars and setups for other rally drivers. He is also an expert on Reiger dampers. His testing stage is - well, part of the Kopná stage.

One funny note at the end. Pavel Dresler, now co-driver of Jan Kopecký, has been a huge fan of Roman Kresta and it's a bit funny that he later became co-driver of his big rival (in fact there is bigger rivality among the fans than the two drivers themselves).
