There was a very serious accident of Radomír Kupec (brother of Karel who did JERC) on SS1. The driver was seriously injured and airliften to the hospital. Nothing more is known about his state. It was an unfortunate accident on the superfast crest at Troják ski slope well known from Barum rally (Zawada's crazy spin this year). The car went into a wooden fence and some piece of wood hit the driver through the front window.
Overall winner of Cup 2+ of RSS is Martin Vlček, second Tarabus. Overall winner of RSS is Smékal, second Kamenec.

He doesn't plan anything. It's marketing department of Škoda who has the title as a mandatory mission (they have roughly 31% of the whole market here and they sure want to keep it). With all respect nobody else from Škoda drivers can guarantee the title against Pech and possibly Dohnal.

Finally some good news about Radek Kupec who was very seriously injured in Rally Vsetín by a log hitting his head through the windshield. According to his brother Karel (JERC driver) Radek got out of the worst but there is still very long recovery ahead of him. He spent several weeks in coma and underwent plenty of surgeries. Now he is conscious, he is able communicate but he is too weak even to get off the bed. Nevertheless he is slowly but gradually getting better.
Karel also announced that he is temporarily suspending his own rally career.

Finally some good news.
Rally Jeseníky (Rallysprint Series) is confirmed to run this season (it was canceled last year and there were doubts about this edition as well).
Rally Pačejov got a new general partner - Invelt, the same company which owns Pech's team. The contract has been signed for five years and Invelt wants to bring Pačejov from sprints into MČR. Pačejov is very nice event, maybe the best event in the series. Very good organization, nice stages and moreover it's very popular both among the crews and spectators.

Ole-Christian Veiby will take part in Valašská Rally!
Timetable of Valašská Rally, first event of Czech championship shows that the event finally gets into the good old quality in terms of the route. Much better than last years and also finally longer than minimal required distance. Moreover Tatra and Juřinka stages shall be broadcasted live on Czech TV (both circuits - one on Tatra testing grounds and the other is a sort of city stage held on the outskirts of the host town Valašské Meziříčí). Alltogether there are 15 stages with 174 km. A lot of the route is new which is also a positive thing.

Tomorrow before noon Valašská Rally and the 2018 Czech Championship season starts. Link to the live results: https://rally-base.com/2018/kowax-valasska-rally-valmez-2018/
Currently there is no snow left on the stages but some ice patches in the morning are still possible due to night temperatures getting bellow zero. Otherwise during the day the temperatures shall be around +5°C and the weather shall be partially cloudy with no precipitations. The roads are generally very dirty after the winter, especially smaller ones. The route is very difficult and features rather crazy variety in stages. For example SS1 is mostly crazy fast wide road with some chicanes, SS2 is extremely technical Alpine-style road with hairpins from start to finish) and SS3 is changing every few hundred meters from small broken and dirty roads to wide flat sections including many passes through villages. There is definitely a lot of spectacular places on stages and You can expect great videos :)
Nobody following this?
Kopecky dominated leg one but I thought Veiby did pretty well given his relative lack of experience on these stages.

#ValašskáRally SS 8 cancelled due to incorrect position of the finish, @OCVeiby @skodafabiar5 looses his fastest time and second place to Pech who is now 3.2 sec. ahead of him: overall 1) #Kopecký 1:08.25.6, 2) Pech +47.0 sec., 3) @OCVeiby +50.2 sec.

25th March 2018, 10:32
I was there and Pech is in fact lucky that the stage was canceled. I was exactly at the finish line and he didn't lose more than one 1 second there (I thought he may have had a loose gear but maybe he was only confused by stage end position). Anyway many crews were braking already before finish line and on the other hand Pešl crashed into a tree just behind finish. It was very nice place though!
Mirek
25th March 2018, 14:21
Crushing victory for Kopecký in Valašská Rally. He won all stages but one which was later canceled. Pech and Veiby had a great fight for second place but it must be painful for them to see that Jan is always faster even when he doesn't need it. Anyway very strong result for Veiby for his first Czech outing!
This morning Pech went off slightly on Hukvaldy stage and also was too long once or twice on brakes. For that reason he was very lucky that the organizers made a mistake due to which the stage was canceled for everyone (see later the exmplanation of what happened). In the end there was only 0,5 seconds between Veiby and Pech on the last stage. Veiby made a spin and nearly lost even the third place to Dohnal.
Back to the situation on SS8. The point is that there was a change of flying finish by 100 meters issued before the recce due to safety concern (too close proximity of the stop control at the nearest crossroads). Unfortunately in reality the organizers placed the flying finished according to the original stage plan instead of the new location. That caused a lot of confusion and in a way also the crash of Pešl (and another off of Šikl in the same place). I think that the decision to cancel the stage was right even when it helped Pech by accident.
1. Kopecký (Fabia R5) 1:29:29,9 (5 sec pen.)
2. Pech (Fiesta R5) +1:01,8 (5 sec pen.)
3. Veiby (Fabia R5) +1:18,8 (10 sec pen.)
4. Dohnal (Focus WRC) +1:19,5
5. Černý (Fiesta R5) +2:18,8 (5 sec pen.)
6. Tarabus (Fabia R5) +2:58,8
7. Vlček (Fiesta R5) +3:06,3 (5 sec pen.)
8. Mareš (Fabia R5) +3:23,5
9. Kopáček (Fiesta R5) +3:28,9
10. Szeja (Fiesta R5) +3:59,5
Nobody from top crews retired or even had a puncture despite quite hard stages and even the longest one being run in the night!
For me it was very nice event. We chose great spots and saw a lot of action including one crash, one spin, one off and 3-4 massive big moments :)
PS 5 seconds penalty is given for hitting a chicane. That's why nearly everyone has it.

It's not his decision and in the same time he's doing his job. Believe me that he also prefers to run WRC2 but Škoda wants him to take the Czech title.
Also I don't think that he's killing the championship. You can see that there is absolutely no decline of quality or quantity of drivers and cars in the championship. It's been exactly opposite in the recent years. Also the number of spectators is growing and speaking for myself I want to see him driving because You know what? He is the benchmark. You can see a lot of mistakes of others when comparing to him on same places.
There were 18 R5, 3 WRC and 1 S2000 on the first event and there will be likely even more in next rounds with extra bonus in Lukyanuk joining the show. You can take it as You will but I'm pretty happy about what we have here now regardless the fact that the master is winning everything.

How having real works team in national championship could be bad for it? And while Škoda is, perhaps, only works team, that doing full national championship, they need to do it with best driver available. So we have this situation. It's good for "regular" spectators, to see national pride - Škoda, with local hero Kopecky behind wheel, and for hardcore fans it's always nice to see best driver in best car, doing best what he can - driving like crazy.

7th April 2018, 15:49
The rally finished with an easy victory for Kostka who won all stages (by the way he had comletely new car of the latest spec.). Pity he drives only so few rallies and basically only where he knows every stone around the road. Behind him it was a great battle. Nobody had an issue or made any mistake there, it was purely about driving.
1. Kostka (Fabia R5) 37:24,7
2. Tlusťák (i20 WRC) +34,5
3. Vlček (Fiesta R5) +35,8
4. Grzyb (Fabia R5) +36,5
5. Mareš (Fabia R5) +42,9
6. Koči (Fabia R5) +54,8
7. Pospíšilík (Fabia R5) +1:09,3
8. Habaj (Fiesta R5) +1:13,3
9. Trněný (Fabia WRC) +1:50,8
10. Jakeš (Fabia S2000) +2:07,3
I'd like to mention also 2WD because after some years it looks very promissing with new youngsters. In the end an experienced Svačina won, only 1,3 seconds behind him was 22 years old Talaš but another even younger drivers shone as well. 18 years old Cais in his first ever R2 start was the fastest of all but visiting a ditch brought him down to 3rd place. Also the youngest of them Petr Semerád, only 16 years old (the youngest brother of Martin), won two stages and showed great speed. He also lost time with an off.
And a funny situation at the end... You know the nice flames from the side exhaust of the Escort Cosworth. Today Neumann driving it in the historic event managed to set a chicane made of hay bales on fire! :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akm78R5UavU
In fact the car is not a proper historic one. You can see it has 6-speed sequential gearbox and hydraulic handbrake (by the way You can see he is all the time pumpingwith it - I guess an issue with hydraulic pressure?). The very beginning is some weird mickey-mouse stuff but especially last third is for sure worth watching. By the way most of the stage is former Barum stage and the last third is very popular testing road for Barum.
dimviii
8th April 2018, 17:33
thanks Mirek!
only in Czech, could be a crazy enough to invest a 6 speed sequential at a rear engined skoda*
probably he had a malfunction with the handbrake(not instantbite?) and he is pumping the lever.

Actually he's not the first one :) First one was Petr Šimurda, great driver who was missing on Czech stages for couple of years and finally returned this year into proper historic competition with his LR in historic spec. That's the second spectacular 130LR (in works colors) which You could see in the videos from Valašská rally. Yesterday he was second overall in historics behind Neumann with Escort Cosworth.
This is him in 2013. Very spectacular! Once he even managed to finish 8th overall in a rallysprint championship event when there was some snow.

Not surprising if the 911's are driven by nobodies....
One of them is European historic champion and former driver of Pavel Dresler, another one is former multiple European hillclimb champion etc. Yes, they aren't as fast as Pech on rally stages but I wouldn't call them nobodies. The two ones I named also don't have machinery close to former Pech's one (and even Pech was able to drive it fast even for the price of finishing only in half of the events)...

Last year he had a massive crash in Český Krumlov due to exactly same technical problem. He was quite badly injured. He was writing about his feelings and how he returned to active driving with a simple statistical fact on his mind - that there is very low probability that it would happen to him again. In the end it took only two events to happen again. At the end he's writing that he has to rethink whether to continue or not.

The positive surprises were Nordgren, Mares and Kopacek, but also Lukyanuk. I didn't think that Luky could be at least as Pech on his home event.

I know about it. I was that person who made this notional times. I was trying to explain it to him on arrival to last service, but without any proper success. I wants to make during this week a treatise about notional times - to explain system why we are doing notional times like this. The entry list was not that good like in Kopná but nevertheless it was quite nice to spectate thanks to many spectacular places on the stages. I have to say that only very few 4WD drivers were spectacular but on the other hand 2WD were great.
Mareš was the fastest driver (won 5 of 7 stages) but on SS2 he broke a chicane and got a 20 seconds penalty. Afterwards it was a question how many of those infront of him he can catch. In the end Odložilík won by 0,2 seconds ahead of Mareš and third Trněný was only 1 seconds behind! 10th overall and clearly fastest in 2WD was only 16 years old Petr Semerád who won even with 10 seconds penalty.
1. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) 38:29,2
2. Mareš (Fabia R5) +0,2 (20 sec penalty)
3. Trněný (Fabia WRC) +1,2
4. Vlček (Fabia R5) +28,3 (5 sec penalty)
5. Rujbr (Fabia R5) +36,8 (5 sec penalty)
6. Růžička (Fiesta R5) 1:51,5
7. Nešetřil (997 GT3) +2:12,5
8. Hanuš (SVK, Fiesta R5) +2:19,0 (5 sec penalty)
9. Šimek (Evo IX gr.N) +3:22,6
10. P. Semerád (208 R2) +3:41,4 (10 sec penalty)

Already 14 entrants in a Peugeot 208 R2 on the entrylist of next week's Rally Cesky Krumlov, a record for a czech rally(even though all are not running the 208 cup)

The first leg of the rally was held in completely crazy weather and many lost huge time with spins or offs on the standing water. The second leg was basically only about a fight between Černý and Mareš for the third place. Černý finally showed good speed and took the third place. Pech was more or less only crusing after first few stages (Kopecký was only 5th on the first proper stage but quickly destroyed everyone on following stages; by the way Firla with R2 was 3rd fastest on that crazy stage).
1. Kopecký (Fabia R5) 1:32:33,5
2. Pech (Fiesta R5) +1:56,5
3. Černý (Fiesta R5) +2:30,0
4. Mareš (Fabia R5) +2:37,0
5. Štajf (Fabia R5) +4:09,7
6. Dohnal (Focus WRC) +4:29,4
7. Jakeš (Fabia S2000) +6:01,7
8. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +6:06,2
9. Štochl (Fabia R5) +6:43,1 (25 sec penalty)
10. Pospíšilík (Fabia R5) +7:36,5
SS Wins: Kopecký 12, Szeja 1, Pech 1, Dohnal 1
Notable retirements: Kopáček (Fiesta R5, withdrawn to save money for next event after he lost a chance for a good result in first few stages), Vlček (Fiesta R5, accident), Szeja (Fiesta R5, accident), Trněný (Fabia WRC, accident)
There was a huge accident of the crew Sobotka/Sobotka in the heavy rain on SS2. The car was completely destroyed and the crew was airlifted to the hospital. There is no further official information about the state of the crew. Hopefully no news is good news in this case.

Some onboards...
Vlček SS2; a lot of standing water, FIA tyres with no handcuts alowed, pretty much undriveable, it can be heard him asking the co-driver to weaken the ALS; at around 6th minute it's like driving in a river; near the finish he catches slowly driving Dohnal who doesn't let him pass because he could not see anything in the mirrors
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alRYXvTiPmI
Kopáček SS3; new stage, after a stupid mandatory WRC-style donut at the beginning it's great road!

Jakeš SS11; one of my favorite stages with the good old S2000

Seeded lists are not yet available but at least some info about upcoming Rally Hustopeče which is currently maybe the most spectacular event for the spectators in our country. It's about to be held on 15-16th June in South Moravia. It's again part of both Czech and Slovak championship. The route is near same as last year with plenty of gravel sections in the vineyeards. As usually spectators can enjoy a lot of very nice places with pretty relaxed atmosphere (one of the most spectator friendly event in CZ). The event is extremely compact and the liasons are very short. Aside of Slovakia it's also very close to Austria and Hungary (and it's very easy to reach as it's being held just along the Brno - Bratislava motorway) I can therefore recommend the event to our forum members from said countries. WRC1 can confirm that it's worth it I think :)
Entered:
19 R5 (Kopecký, Pech, Koči, Grzyb, Mareš, Vlček, Kopáček, Tarabus, Melichárek, Pospíšilík, Gavlák, Trojan, Rujbr, Majerčák, Drotár, Štochl, Růžička, Adolf, Pokorný)
2 WRC (Dohnal, Kukučka)
2 S2000 (Jakeš, Tomek)
All in all around 130 crews.

So far it's been very unfortunate event with way too many crashes and technical problems and a sort of sporting tragedy for Dohnal whose great Focus WRC just burned completely :(
Pech's problem was burned-through piston on shakedown. Jirovec tried to arrange a last minute swap so that Pech would drive the Porsche with Jirovec's co-driver but it was not possible to manage it in time.
Kopáček had quite a big crash. They are ok but who knows if thry can continue in the season...

2. Koči (Fabia R5) +1:07,6 (20 sec pen.)
3. Černý (Fiesta R5) +1:19,1 (5 sec pen.)
4. Mareš (Fabia R5) +1:28,3 (5 sec pen.)
5. Grzyb (Fabia R5) +1:55,6
6. Tarabus (Fabia R5) +3:13,0 (lost 1,5 minutes with a spectacular off on SS7 - video: https://youtu.be/pbL4DxCncag?t=87 )
7. Pospíšilík (Fabia R5) +3:13,2
8. Trojan (Fabia R5) +3:21,5 (5 sec pen.)
9. Gavlák (Fabia R5) +4:08,6
10. Růžička (Fiesta R5) +5:05,0
23 years old Talaš won 2WD (208 R2). 18 years old Cais was the fastest man of the second leg (208 R2) but he retired early in the first leg with technical problems.

Not yet. He has actually one more Focus but due to our rules it may not be possible to use it. WRC cars are allowed in our championship only if they were registered in CZ before end of 2014 and I don't know when he registered the second one. I think it was later. In that case he could use it only for sprint and show events.

Had a quick visit to Rally Bohemia stages today. It was all dry and sunny (not hot). For some reason Veiby and especially Nordgren have been totally lost. Baumschlager has been slow as well (it looks like he may have a problem to return into a good racing shape after his injury). After SS6 Veiby 6th, Nordgren 10th and Baumschlager 11th.

Baumschlager is there just for a 'Sunday drive' and to finish the event. Austrian Kronen Zeitung told in an interview that he still cannot run or drive a mountainbike without pain, so there is absolutely no need to risk anything at the moment. Be sure when there is time for real competition and the speed is needed, he will be right back.

I think they’re not more difficult than Cesky Krumlov or Barum, from watching onboards. But there are quite a lot of show-stages which are quite technical I think. They require efficient driving and that’s often what the Nordic drivers need to train on. Also after seeing Veiby last week this doesn’t surpsise me. For Nordgren I’m still wondering why they chose him and not Huttunen for example.
Weird thing is Nordgren was very good on the other Czech Rally he did this year.

Yeah Huttunen drove Fabia in Finland and won against quite a weak WRC2 lineup which included Nordgren so saying that Nordgren is better than Huttunen is also wrong. Pretty sure there is some wins with I20 in gravel aswell so interesting see how Huttunen will do in Finland this year.

There is very little left in Rally Bohemia from those days unfortunately. Basically today's long stage Radostín is the only one of the best long stagest left in the rally (in the past it used to be called Sychrov). Now it's also one of the hardest event to spectate in CZ. Very long liasons, few access roads and often no overview from wherever You can place Yourself.
Bohemia is different than other events. Veiby drove Valašská rally which was very very dirty and very cold. The event was not about having good lines, big balls play bigger role there than on Bohemia. Nordgren drove Šumava which is faster rally than Bohemia, the stages are rougher, bumpier, with many crests and one of them was half-gravel (the one he won). Bohemia today was very technical event and some of the stages required very precise lines (SS Ještěd mainly). The hardest and longest stage Radostín is one of the hardest stages in CZ and I think that locals benefitted hugely from the past experience. Anyway when some real hobby drivers are faster than works crews it's wrong. We'll see tomorrow because the stages are very different. Veeery fast in fact.

Very crazy final of the rally between the 3rd and 6th place. Several mistakes in the last stages and changing of positions on every stage till the end. Kopecký used his lead to show some donuts on the last city stage. First run through the city stage was canceled because one of the zero cars broke the oil sump and the oil was everywhere...
Final results:
1. Kopecký (Fabia R5) 1:28:12,3
2. Pech (Fiesta R5) +37,6
3. Veiby (Fabia R5) +1:18,3
4. Štajf (Fabia R5) +1:26,2
5. Mareš (Fabia R5) +1:26,3
6. Černý (Fiesta R5) +1:36,7
7. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +2:11,8
8. Vojtěch (Fabia R5) +2:23,1
9. Nordgren (Fabia R5) +2:23,1
10. Szeja (Fiesta R5) +2:56,5 (5 sec pen.)
11. Baumschlager (Fabia R5) +3:18,8
Scratches: Kopecký 11, Pech 1, Vojtěch 1, Veiby 1
Very intense battle also in 2WD:
1. Wagner J. (208 R2) 1:37:44,2
2. Talaš (208 R2) +13,6 (5 sec pen.)
3. Wagner S. (208 R2) +27,5 (5 sec pen.)
4. Madsen (Swift Maxi 2000 Evo) +50,5
5. Dohnal (208 R2) +57,5
Cais and Kamenec also set some very good times but they lost a lot of time with some problems before (Cais with stalled engine and a early TC check, about Kamenec I don't know, maybe puncture). Scratches: Madsen 9, Wagner J. 3, Cais 1, Talaš 1

An interesting detail (and a bit sad) from Jakeš regarding Rally Bohemia. On SS Cetno his S2000 spent 1 minute 28 seconds in rpm limiter. On one stage!

Jan Dohnal continues. He is entered to Rally Pačejov with Ford Fiesta (not yet clear if R5 or WRC). Also Tomáš Enge is entered (with Škoda 130LR which means a lot of fun for everyone). Another surprise is Josef Peták with Focus WRC.

Something very special from Rally Bohemia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ9doJpYSvQ
This is original museum car Škoda 200RS (3 pieces were built in 1973-1974). The car had enlarged bore of the most famous Škoda aluminium engine block (used for some 50 years since Škoda 1000MB from 1964 till Fabia II 1.4MPI). One or two cars had 1.8 litre, the other even 2.0 litres volume (the small aluminium engine with only 3 cranckshaft bearings could survive that!). The output was very good for it's time - 163HP and 206 Nm for 2.0 and 154 Hp and 179 Nm for 1.8. The top speed was huge 210 km/h. Unfortunately the car wasn't that successful as expected (Hubáček with Alpine 110 managed to beat the works Škoda team) and it was replaced by the famous lighter, more sophisticated and faster 130RS.

On photos of Dohnal's test with the Fiesta I saw, that the car has czech reg. plates. Has he bought the car?
If yes, what are his plans to do with the car, as he can't drive the Czech Championship with it.

I dont think he buys this car.Its owned by Slovakia rally team Melico Racing which bought this Fiesta from Prokop ( Jipocar )
So reason from Czech plate is probably they kept them from previous owner.
In video on Ewrc is Dohnal talking about this start with Fiesta WRC is one takeoff to keep the deal with sponsors, about plans for future is nothing decided yet
