Thank´s Mirek for a comprehensive report of the Czech rallying future...

You got some very good news - I really hope that we´ll see Kostka in the MMCR season 2013. He was already bloody fast in the Barum with S2000. So IMO he´ll be true candidate for the Champion next year. It will also nice to see Jakes in the top although I´d more like to see him in the real rally car: S2000 (or even top R3). I think that season with the Subaru is wasted already even it has not started yet..

For sure there will be some good battles again in the Czech. And I hope that I could manage to come again to see some serious tarmac rallying in your nice country(side) ;) ;)

I'm less and less interested in the event but if I remember right there will be one normal stage Zbraslav-Točná (more a hill climb but nice road) and than the circuit on Chuchle hypodrome, both run twice or three times, nothing else.

Hi, in the Czech Republic Sprintrally championship banned WRC cars from the season 2014. In season 2013 can only get points on Czech number plates. If you do not like, sign please online petition.

Thank you very much to all of you.

You forget to enter the link...

Anyway I would not come into hysteria. There is only one almost half year old record from the June meeting of ASN rally commission in which such idea is mentioned. At the end of October someone finds it and puts on forum and bang everyone starts to fight against that. Yet we haven't seen regulations for 2013 and maybe the old document is already obsolete...

The other point is that when You come with that here You should write correct what is written in that record. In 2014 they don't want to ban WRC cars. They want to put them outside of championship classification.

The direct link to this petition is here: Petice proti zru (http://www.petice24.com/petice_proti_zrueni_kategorie_13_v_eskych_rallyspr intech)
first line is name, then surname, city, country and your e-mail address. Last line is : public signature? YES/NO

I totally agree with Mirek, it is to early for any hysteria but it would be very nice from you to add your signature into this petition. Please also send it to your national rallyforums. At the end author will send the petition to FAS and we totally need them to start thinking logically. It would be good feedback for them. Because just start thinking about ban for WRC (or putting them out of championship, because it is all the same at the end) is one big sin and such people should burn in hell :D No, just kidding, getting a sunburn would be enough for them :) I am pacifist. I am definitely not a Catholic to wish people such death.

Mirek:
I do not have 15 posts on the forum, I can not put a link. It is not written that cars will score in its own category. It is written that they will not score points for the Championship of the Czech Republic.

Pluto:
Rally in the Czech Republic also attended by spectators from abroad. So why should they not sign a protest?

Mirek
30th October 2012, 15:15
You're probably correct PLuto. The "number of votes" is higher but the value of them becomes less because for many people who could vote it really doesn't make a difference. To reduce costs and for having a better competition it would be better to ban WRC cars by the way.

It didn't work in the past and it will not work in the future. In 2006 when WRC were first completely banned in Czech republic the competition was far from being better, there were suddenly no spectators and general interest in rallying fell down so low that it didn't get back till now despite the S2000 and mainly Barum rally being part of IRC brought part of spectators back. to run the old WRC cars also isn't that expensive. I doubt even the C4 of Kostka was more expensive to run than Mini of Pech...

Michelin, Liposh: To ban and to let them run aside the main championship is not the same, remember situation from 2005. It was far from ideal but also far from being banned.

So far we don't have much information. There was a tragic accident in which several spectators died. First information speak about four dead including one child and three injured. Crew No. 27 with Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX is reported to hit a tree or pole which changed the direction of car into spectators. The accident happened on stage Lopeník which is a natural stage used for the first time.

Just read this. I'm horrified and saddened. These are rallying deaths no. 20-23 this season. Far too many. I hope there is a solution found that'd make our beloved sport safer for competitiors and spectators alike, and at the same time not killing (no pun) the essence of this sport. This just is unbelievable sad and wrong.

It still very different if You are killed as a spectator who knows which risks he takes by going to spectate such dangerous sport but in this case it was sadly all local people living at the stage who were killed. All dead are young girls of age from 6 to 19 years probably standing at the garden next to the stage. It's not even clear if they were spectating the event because I was told that from the spot You could hardly see something (moreover it is just a straight). Hard to say what exactly happened but the outcome is horrible.

Tomorrow will be meeting of rally commission. There will be lot of questions during meeting...

Czech Rallying seems to be facing really tough times, and my thoughts goes to everybody involved after the terrible tragedy last weekend.
Cameramen from my company followed norwegian driver Petter Kristiansen in Rally Pribram just a few weeks ago. They reported back that the rally had lots of marshals and security personell on the stages, and that they had been spoken to several times during the rally when marshals wanted them to move away from different spots. It must be said that my personell were accredited as TV-photographers and they wore the photo tabards from the organiser. They are also very experienced personell having filmed motorsport for up to 20 years, and felt at a couple of occasions that the marshals focused more on speaking to accredited photographers than guiding the spectators.
On SS6 there could have been another tragedy when driver of car no. 5, Pavel Valousek (Peugeot 207 S2000) missed his braking into a junction and went straight on over a pavement curb and into a grass banking were spectators were sitting. The speed was not great though, and therefore the spectators managed to roll away from the oncoming car. But it was close, so close! One of my cameramen filmed the incident, but it happened in a split second and he didn`t manage to film it properly. Still his immedate thoughts were that there had to be spectators underneath the car. Happily there was none, but that was only pure luck! The stage was running again as SS8 later the same day, and now the grass banking was marked as forbidden area and guarded by marshals. This time a Mitsubishi went off...
It just goes to show that even with lots of marshals around, there is no way to totallly secure every meter of a rally. And it also depends on the experience of the marshals and security personell. The place where Valousek went off was not deemed dangerous initially and not marked as forbidden for spectators, but it certainly was...

Henning, that place from Příbram You speak about was found dangerous by Jan Kopecký and Pavel Dresler who were driving one of safety cars. They asked stage director to move the people back. for me it is not very clear what happened later. I heard the crowd refused to move more than a bit and only after the off of Valoušek the people agreed to back off. Sure it was luck nothing happened.

Here in Uherský Brod it was different at least according to all available information. All taping and no-go zones were perfectly ok in the area. Problem was that the marshal who was local guy was chatting with his relatives and friends (turned back to coming cars in strong wind - impossible to hear) instead of moving them out of dangerous zone. He was among the people hit by the car and he survived injured however all his friends are dead. If they stood just four meters from the road they would be all alive. A huge tragedy caused by a stupid human fault. Now we'll see if rallying can continue in our country as the media hunt is enormous.

For media everything where is tragedy is good topic, now newspapers ant tv for me is a piece of ****. They can only say something about rally when someone is dead or when someone is injured. Personally i don't know if you have any tabloid newspaper in Czech but i know situation in Poland and when if something like that happened to be in Poland people are talking that rally is a sport for people without brain etc. For me rally is a sport where you must have head on shoulders, if you don't have later we have situation like i Uhersky Brod.

Now we must wait for a decision about future, i hope it will be positive

In Croatia this was also a headline news. Actually the only two times I remember seeing anything motorsport related this year were tho news reports- one for this, and on for a hillclimb race in Serbia where, you guessed it, a spectator died. Really horrible situation in CZ right now, I read a lot of articles in these few days and from what I understand, the media is very aggressive towards rallying at the moment. Not very hard to be, since the televisions make up fake rally experts who say that you will almost certainly die if you go spectate rallies. I can't even imagine the talks on the streets from people who are rally experts when tragedies happen, F1 experts when Senna died, football experts when some player dies, skiing experts when a skier lost his leg a few years ago, etc... Sorry for some harsh words, but just I'm very frustrated by the situation. All in all, a very simbolic end to this rallying year.

Photos of ongoing restoration of one of the most interesting cars ever built in our country. The car on the picture is second of three original Škoda 160 RS MTX built by Metalex for that time famous Agroteam Slušovice. The car was used in 1984 season but AZNP Mladá Boleslav (Škoda) refused to help with homologation and Metalex was not able to produce 200 cars for gr.B homologation, so it was never homologated. It combines Škoda Garde body with further tuned 1600 ccm VAZ 2105 VFTS engine and completely new axles and steering. The owner plans to show it live in Rallye Praha Revival in April.

I would like to correct it. Accident in Uhersky Brod is one of the key problems, but they had also problems with money this season and there is no funding for next year. If he will find some new sponsor, he will return...

Financial problems of many teams are connected to the series of tragedies as well. I would say for many that is the main reason why they can't find sponsors.

Finally some good news. According to todays press release of Rally Lužické Hory all preparations are going according to a plan. There are no major problems with locals or authorities. Good news also is that the event is held under patronage of Liberec department representative. That wouldn't be so special in the past but in these difficult times it's very good news.

The route will stay largely unchanged, only one stage will be largely modified. The schedule will be 1x2 stages, service, 1x4 stages, service, 1x2 stages. Altogether two runs over 4 different stages.

German and Polish crews are again welcome :)

There was the official pre-season testing in Žiželice. I was out for a week so I can hardly comment what happened there. Anyway some interesting news to see:

Robert Kořístka (last year's sprint 2WD champion) switched for Evo IX of Orsák team.
Václav Dunovský is back to Ignis S1600.
Jiří Kalista, one of the fastest drivers of amateur series, showed for the first time in action his new historic Legacy gr.A (in Czech historic championships it's allowed).
Josef Zimmermann (last year 2nd 2WD in srpints) switched for Impreza gr.N.
Jiří Navrátil is back in historic Sierra Cosworth (Fiesta S2000 no more).
Martin Búš is new driver of Roto team for their Impreza gr.N.
And of course it was nice to see Mirek Jakeš again because he wasn't driving a lot lately...

This coming weekend there is going to be the first round of rallysprint championship. Rally Vrchovina is held near Jindřichův Hradec at the southern border with Austria. Currently there is some snow on stages and more is expected but there are no studs or even narrow wheels for S2000/WRC allowed, so we'll see what happens. Anyway the entries are not bad considering the situation in our country (cca 100 crews including the cup).

I forgot one important thing - in sprints which are run according to the national rules the gr.N cars will use smaller restrictor for safety reasons - 32 mm like in the past. It's one of many reactions to what happened last year. R4 with more advanced suspension stay on 33 mm.

It was one messy event to say the truth. A lot of canceled stages, many penalties coming and disappearing, many offs and accidents. Many crews retired before start or after first stages. In the end there is a truly surprising winner - Polish driver Mariusz Malyszczycki!

6. Štajf (Impreza R4) +1:44,2 (30 sec pen)
7. Pešl (Evo IX N4) +1:46,6
8. Šimurda (Škoda 130 LR gr.V - upgraded over historic homologation) +3.25,4 !

Many lost sponsors because they don't want to be connected with something having so negative image. Making a rally route is even more difficult than before. Some crews decided to go abroad rather than to start at home. Retirement of some is just a coincidence but also counts (such as Roman Kresta who plans only selected favorite events without any championship targets).

What a shame, but he just didn´t believe how slippery it was. I don´t think that he enjoyed very much driving those tarmac tyres in such conditions... But anyway, very good onboard camera positioning ;) ;)

Further tuned Lada VFTS 1600 ccm engine. The car was built by company Metalex for Agro Team Slušovice in 1985 or so but it was never homologated as Škoda refused to do so. It was fast car but used only several times in national events (compared to Škodas it had more powerful engine and compared to Ladas it had much more advanced suspension and brakes). Three pieces were built and I believe this one is newly rebuilt original one.

The only small problem is that these beauties must use 34 mm restrictor in our historic championship so they are less powerful than they used to be in their time (Káňa said his Sierra has 280 Hp and 400 Nm with this restrictor).

Rally is finished. Tarabus tried a massive attack in the last stage but it was not enough and Pech wins by just 3 seconds. The rest was nowhere near. Third Odložilík looses four minutes over 160 km (one stage was canceled because of oil from car of Kalista). Triner retired due to broken engine from 2nd place in 2WD. 29 crews finished.

1. Pech (Mini S2000) 1:30:38,7
2. Tarabus (Fabia S2000) +3,8
3. Odložilík (Fabia S2000) +4:00,5
4. Jelínek (Fabia S2000) +4:37,3
5. Štajf (Impreza STI gr.N) +6:04,1
6. Votava (Evo IX gr.N) +7:25,4
7. Trojan (Evo IX gr.N) +8:01,3
8. Mifka (Evo IX gr.N) +8:11,3
9. Peták (Clio R3) +8:50,9
10. Černý (208 R2) +10:10,5

19. Immonen (C2 R2) +15:17,0

In Rally Vltava it was Jensen dominating the event from start line. Today Jiří kalista (Legacy RS) was fastest but his engine broke and the oil on the road caused cancellation of the stage. There were many retirements (only 36 crews finished). Some of the most important: Lars Myrsell (Porsche 911) crashed, Ernst Harrach (Lancer Turbo) retired with broken turbo, Jan Krejča (Škoda 130LR) with broken gearbox. All crews with high starting numbers (including all Czech) also suffered from rather bad notional times on SS4 (in absolute standings).

1. Jensen (Lancia 037) 1:50:25,7
2. Pedro (Lancia 037) +28,9
3. Werner (Audi Quattro) +58,4
4. Wagner (Porsche 911) +1:45,1
5. Navrátil (Sierra Cosworth) +3:35,0
6. Petrášek (Ascona B) +5:05,9
7. Jansson (Escort RS2000) +7:15,7
8. Káňa (Sierra Cosworth) +7:23,5
9. Veikkanen (Porsche 911SC) +8:05,9
10. Hladík (Swift GTi) +10:46,2

I'm back. I took it easy and watched complete field only on SS2/5 with a visit of a restaurant between :) Very nice places after all (especially SS5), pity those are only for one year till the new main road is opened. The weather made it difficult, a bit foggy, cold, light rain and a very dirty road. Especially where I was there were fast turns in opened fields with nothing to prevent cutting so You can imagine how it looked like :) You will definitely see them on videos, I saw Polish guys with video cameras there (maybe OES Records?).

Lappi was very impressive considering his experience on asphalt. It came to my mind that in March 2009 when I first saw Juho on our stages (Valašská rally) he looked definitely slower than Esapekka is now. For Juho it took just half a year to first time beat Kopecký on asphalt (Bohemia 2009). Let's see what Esapekka can do. The potential is sure there!

Sýkora was also good. In fact he looked faster than his times as opposed to Kostka who was very clean and tidy as always. From gr.N drivers Jakeš looked without doubts fastest. Some nice action also from the guys with high numbers. It's interesting that there was no retirement or big problem from top crews.

Final standings

1. Kostka (Fiesta WRC) 41:03,9
2. Lappi (Fabia S2000) +36,6
3. Odložilík (Xsara WRC) +39,5
4. Sýkora (Fabia S2000) +1:15,2
5. Kahle (Octavia WRC) +1:40,7
6. Jakeš (Evo IX Gr.N) +1:41,9
7. Dohnal (207 S2000) +2:55,8
8. Plíhal (Octavia WRC) +2:59,2
9. Tomaštík (Impreza S12B) +3:00,9

I'm suprised Octavias Wrc are still in use. They look so big compared to modern WRC cars :) Lappi lost only to one wrc car. Is this Kostka a good driver?

Mirek
1st May 2013, 22:07
Octavia is for me one of the most spectacular cars ever because to turn the tank You must do it sideways :D

Kostka is circuit driver and brother-in-law of Roman Kresta. In the past years he usually did only Barum rally but in 2012 he started full rally campaign after his DTM negotiations failed. He won Czech sprintrally championship with C4 WRC but twice badly crashed as well (one C4 was completely destroyed). Some people say that he won only because of the car and it's true that it was by far the best but in Barum rally he showed that he learns fast. In one of the toughest editions (due to weather) he finished 3rd overall behind Hänninen and Kresta. For 2013 he planned some WRC events. In RMC he won shakedown of WRC2 but hit same stone as Lappi in SS1. Now I believe his starts with Fiesta WRC are a preparation for WRC Germany and France.

By the way in first section Lappi was the only one on cut slicks. He kept using them all rally.

Octavia is for me one of the most spectacular cars ever because to turn the tank You must do it sideways :D

I wonder if Skoda helps in any way to keep those old fashioned wrc cars still go in rallies. I mean, for example, if engine blows up or gear box brakes down, does the manufacturer still have some spare parts to sell to privaters or the car is just wasted?

As far as I know Juka Motorsport supplies all parts and also offers major rebuilds for both Octavia and Fabia WRC. Juka is team very close to Škoda Motorsport. When there was the highest demand they were even building S2000 cars for factory. You might know the team as a long time partner of Škoda Deutschland (for more than 10 years), now they are running S2000 car for Sepp Wiegand and Octavia WRC for Matthias Kahle.

Our dear new president today stated on public that rallying shall be banned or at least restricted. He said it's too dangerous and gives wrong example to young drivers...

I wonder what example he gives to young people when he is well known as hard Becherovka drinker, smoker and arrogant vulgar person let alone all the scandals connected with his prime-minister era... but what we voted for we have :(

what is the role of the President ? Is it as in Germany, with no power, or as in France, with a lot of power ?
