In this moment Rally Vyškov takes place. Live results are here: http://rally-base.com/2014/xxii-rally-vyskov-2014
Unfortunately Sýkora is already out with a mechanical problem of Fabia S2000.
Petr Zedník had a bad crash with the Fiesta S1600. According to rumors fortunately there shall be no serious injury for the driver but it seems that the only well-working Fiesta S1600 is no more :(

But dont forget that Czech championship is not so stupid like WRC, so if you crash once, you cannot be in final results ;)

Total rollercoster in Czech rally rules for 2015
Only one champion title from two-day events. International championship becomes national only (foreign drivers can start but don't take points). All events held only in CZ. Technical rules according to this year's sprints which means WRC cars are allowed with a restriction to a homologation from 2006 or older. Crews can use any tyres acc. to FIA rules since 2012. They can heat them or hand-cut. National license is enough.
Rallysprints are downgraded to a "Series" without official championship title. Cars eligible are very free but only 2WD up to 2 litres. Together with rallysprints there will be a "Cup 2+" (WRC new and old, R4, R5, S2000, RGT or N4). Compared to this year N4 cars return to 33 mm restrictor in all events. International license is required for Cup 2+.
There is also a change in historic championship with a new class for cars from years 91-96.

If drivers like Kostka or even Odlozilik move to a Xsara WRC it could be very difficult for Pech to become champion again next year. Is there a reason why they changed the rules so drasticly?

Since 2004 our ASN went strictly FIA way but the result was less crews and more expensive championship. That was getting much worse in last couple of years. I think the change of the course is a result of this situation. Yes, it's quite drastic and I'm curious what it will bring...

Tomaštík wins the last rallysprint after a fantastic battle with Jakeš and Odložilík till the last meter. Fight of Dohnal and Kahle lasted till the end too and the one of Adolf and Březík was decided by just one tenth. There were very few retirements among top crews, only Vlček with Fabia S2000 who crashed and Zimmermann with technical problems from the second place in gr.N .
1. Tomaštík (Impreza WRC S12B) 39:30,8
2. Jakeš (DS3 R5) +3,1
3. Odložilík (Fiesta R5) +7,3
4. Sýkora (Fiesta R5) +42,2

Yes, unfortunately it is true. Miloš Vágner, driver of Fabia S2000, died and his well known co-driver Petr Gross was seriously injured in a crash into a barn. Petr Gross was airlifted to a hospital and his state is said to be stabilized. Hopefully he gets better.
The rally was canceled. I'm afraid this might be an end of this event. There were huge problems already during the season when the date was moved several times and in the end it was hold only for few cars out of any championship...

The car crashed by half of it's side into a wall and stopped instantly. You can see it stands where it crashed, no other movement, spinning or anything. It just stopped from speed to zero. Even though it is not very destroyed this kind of accidents is very bad because there is huge acceleration on internal organs and brain. I think there was some similar fatal accident on circuits this year where driver died despite having the cockpit nearly untouched.

WRC are now allowed in Czech main championship ?
Mirek
23rd November 2014, 21:44
Yes, I wrote about it some weeks back. Basically everything is upside down now. Short summary...
- only one championship title from two-days long events
- the championship is not international anymore
- WRC cars are allowed under a condition of VR homologation date from 2006 or older, also only cars having Czech registration before the end of 2014 (that's some really weird rule)
- tyres according to old FIA rules (2011+) are allowed, hand-cutting and warming is allowed too
- sprint championship is transformed into a cup for only 2WD cars but with very free rules allowing also some non-homologated cars
- there is a Cup 2+ held together with sprints which allows 4WD cars including most modern WRC cars
- there is a new class in historic championship allowing gr.A cars up to 1995

The results are not really important...
I watched SS1 and SS3 only. Both on the south side of circuit which is fast and wide with some chicanes. Almost nobody tried any kind of show there. The most drove very clean. There were some exceptions like especially Niki Glisic. From top drivers only Černý and Hozák were driving for show. Pity the Audi of Enge broke down.
All in all the new cars are working too good for roads like this. It was like watching circuit racing. I didn't enjoy it very much to say the truth.

I think that there was quite reasonable interest but there were organization issues, mainly financial which prevented the cup from happening. This year there is different team behind the project (the one which successfully runs Clio R3 trophy in CZ for years). Their first car run Prague rallysprint and will run also Mikuláš rally in Slušovice this coming week. In Prague it was driven by Jiří Brynda and in Slušovice it will be run by Josef Peták.

Has it already been revealed, what Pech and Jakes are driving next year? I think it will be very difficult to beat cars like a Xsara Wrc or Focus 06 with Mini RRC or DS 3 R5.
Mirek
2nd December 2014, 21:01
I don't think we will see such cars here. The rule is strange and allows only WRC cars with Czech registration plate obtained before the end of 2014. I know one or two Xsaras in Italy have Czech plates so these might come in use. I think both Pech and Jakeš stay with same cars but I expect Kopecký to come in the mix with Fabia R5 ;)

Can you explain the changes?
Original idea was:
Czech championship on 6 events, each two day, overall classification for cars in classes 2-10 (+ some national), special class for WRC cars (no overall, only this class)
rally sprint series (not championship, but something like "cup") on 6 events, each one day, overall classification for 2WD cars (classes 5-10 + national), special class for all 4WD cars
but, then suddenly and unexpectedly somebody on the highest places allowed WRC cars until 2006 (on czech plates until end 2014) will be able to fight also in overall classification

I think that real reasont for this information is not reaction to the changes in regulations (despite it is written in the press release). There are lot of factors and this is mainly "excuse". But I think (or hope) that they will change their decision later...

Yesterday I took my little nephew and two nieces and went to spectate the Žiželice test stage which was only 3 km away from their home. We were there only for a little more than one hour as the children became a bit bored as it was all the time the same so we only had a short visit to the service and went home.
With only some 18 cars, very safe and quite boring stage and not many good drivers it wasn't very exciting but I expected that so no complains from me. The most spectacular was for sure Navrátil with Sierra Cosworth. Seems like the car finally runs well. Some high speed drifting was really nice! It was also good to see and hear again the old Fabia Kit Car driven nicely by Dunovský. Also for the first time I saw the super-rare historic Škoda 160 RS MTX of Kafka driven fast.
And which car was the best according to a 6-years old? Porsche 997 GT3 of Macek :)

Czech season starts next weekend with Valašská rally. It's part of the Rallysprint series and Cup 2+ which were newly formed out of previous rallysprint championship and cup. Despite quite poor rally route for 2015 the entries are very good thanks to many foreign drivers which use the event as testing. There are nearly no Czech top crews though...

First stage starts at 9:37.

11th April 2015, 23:51
This rally was an epic disaster of the organization. First stage canceled because it was unprepared, second due to big crashes (that's valid reason) and sixth due to another organization issue (officially too high average speed in the first pass). Therefore two of six stages were not run by anyone and another was canceled for the crews after No.26. That means everybody with higher number did only 3 stages and nobody did more than 4. Moreover there were big time delays and the stages were let's say the worse from previous editions of this event. Altogether it's especially shameful with such a great number of Polish and Slovak guests.
When it was running it was spectacular though. Polish and Slovak drivers were running the show as expected as most of Czech top crews was missing. Odložilík had some issues with the car in the morning and didn't manage to fight back.
The results with a complete podium for foreign guests and Fiesta R5
1. Koči (SVK, Fiesta R5) 24:38,6
2. Grzyb (PL, Fiesta R5) +5,5
3. Habaj (PL, Fiesta R5) +9,7
4. Melichárek (SVK, Fiesta WRC) +10,5
5. Odložilík (CZ, Impreza WRC S12B) +15,0
6. Nivette (PL, Fiesta R5) +29,9
7. Oleksowicz (PL, Fiesta R5) +40,6
8. Vlček (CZ, Fabia S2000) +50,3
9. Kasperczyk (PL, Fiesta R5) +1:00,6
10. Ševčík (CZ, Evo IX gr.N) +1:26,1
Here some spectacular things!

True, but I think Bouffier is one of the best drivers you could put in the DS3 to compare against.

Is the Bouffier / Moreau partnership a 'one off' or a more permanent arrangement?
Bouffier rallying is more or less a one off in these days - his times are more or less over, let´s face it.

And yes, Cerny rather dissapointing, not faster than with his old 208 R2. He knows Fabia S2000, so that´s no excuse.

Good SS7 for Kopecky.

Kopecky wins on Fabia's debut. I suppose any other result would have been a surprise but I think Skoda will be happy with this. 0.63s/km quicker than Bouffier is a good result wherever it is. Kopecky is a quick but cautious driver so i suspect he didn't drive it any harder than he had to.

You should have been at one of the last downhill corners on SS1 in second lap. Kopecký had there a moment at around 170-180 km/h :p
Anyway it was a nice rally for me. Great weather and good organization as well. Pity we lost Pech and Dohnal so early but that's life and in case of Dohnal it was quite expectable as his Focus was prepared very-last minute and he wasn't even able to start on shakedown. I was hoping that Pech would start the second leg to fight for bonus points but then I met him spectating on the first morning stage. Landa's Fabia WRC made only less than one lap of the SS1 before it wasn't able to climb a small hill due to broken clutch (I saw that from distance)...
Anyway what I saw? Kopecký driving very spectacular way with a really nice and powerful car. Pech driving clean and very precise (no wonder as Šumava is his home rally). Bouffier was driving really fast and aggressive but I think that the car isn't fast enough. Valoušek finally in a good rhytm. It was a long time I saw him driving really fast. His S2000 also had probably the shortest gearbox of all and he was often in the limiter. Odložilík in my opinion shall go back to R5. I don't think he would be slower with it. Anyway at least the Impreza WRC made the whole rally unlike most of the old WRC cars. Sýkora was spectacular and fast but sometimes he looked hesitant in some long corners doing braking in them etc. Černý looked like he was driving quite safe. He was clean and I haven't seen any sign of overdriving from him. His major time loss came from both runs of Koráb stage (Buková-Kdyně). Somehow it didn't go well for him there and I have no idea why. Anyway in the S2000 fight Valoušek was pushing a lot more. I would like to mention two names which both unfortunately aren't in the final results - it was Kopáček and Semerád senior. The two were a lot faster than any other gr.N drivers. Semerád retired quite early but Kopáček was in the fight for 7th place till some strange exclusion. In this moment I don't know what happened, maybe he missed some time control...
I shall mention also the historic ERC rally but I have to admit I saw them only on the first stage as we were following the modern rally. One of the reasons is that this year's entry list of historics was quite weak. Moreover Navrátil, who looked fastest on shakedown didn't make it even through SS1 (blown engine). Anyway congratulations to our forum member Jeppe for a nice result. Unfortunately I wasn't able to meet him as when I was in service he wasn't there and vice versa...

I was at the crash after which SS7 was stopped. It was a very fast crest with a blind corner just behind it. The S2000 cars were approaching it in rpm limiter so You can understand it was really fast place. After several big moments of historic crews it was Barčák who went there too fast, straight off into the ditch and rolled several times. It was really hard crash. Unfortunately the co-driver probably broke his collarbone. Here You can see what is left of the car which normally Štajf uses in ERC...

I just checked separated leg 2 classification. Černý was just 0,6 seconds behind Valoušek in second day. Considering that Valoušek looked like pushing a lot more it's quite surprising for me (maybe even more that in second day Sýkora was slightly faster than both and all were faster than Odložilík). I think that Černý for sure has a potential to go faster in next events. It was all new now - the team, the co-driver and partially also the car as this Fabia S2000 is a top notch latest spec. which Černý never had before.

Respect for this stage, it requires big balls to attack this high-speed stage. At least 1/3 of the stage is over 150 km/h for the frontrunners, a lot of moments on the rpm limiter, very poor condition of the tarmac....
Indeed very dangerous situation as immediately after the start drivers are reaching top-speed and with unheated tyres it can become very ''slippery''.....
You are right that it's a stage which requires really big balls but what I hate about it is the huge number of artificial chicanes, mostly placed in crossroads. Unfortunately after the number of tragedies we have really strict rules which doesn't allow even a second pass of stage with average speed over 120 km/h. The event organizers have really hard work with cars and tyres being faster every year. The result is often a chicane-flooded stage like this one (the average speed was 119 km/h by the way). For example the most legendary stage of Czech rallying Malonty from Rally Český Krumlov will come soon. I can't imagine how they can keep Kopecký with R5 under 120 km/h if the stage is dry. Last year with S2000 on wet and with many chicanes the average speed was 119. Anyway in my opinion this rule is useless. It only complicates everything and doesn't bring much for the safety as in most cases the chicanes are not placed in dangerous sections but in crossroads, villages etc.

About artificial chicanes - I partly agree; yes they useless in crossroads, but still I see some point in locating them in narrow villages - driving close to the top-speed between houses, concrete fences, telegraph poles....without any ''safety zone'' is very very dangerous....not to mention that spectators are also very close to the scene.
Yet again if I remember my times as a codriver I always enjoyed ''flying'' between houses...but I was younger at that time.....I think I would not feel comfortable today...

Great! But what happened with his Lancia 037 project?
I think he was about to drive 037 from Volta's team in some events... I don't know any details but I remember that last year in Krumlov Janota was there waiting for the Italians to come with the car but they didn't arrive. I don't know why.
It was not serious project, they were thinking only about some starts. And now, when gr.A cars are allowed in historics, it is nonsense to start with 037...
Unfortunately Janota crashed badly today in one small rally and the car seems to be destroyed... :(

PS Also notice that Pech is on Pirelli tyres while Kopecký on Michelin.
I didn't expect for Pech to be in the position to fight with Kopecky. I thought this season would be an easy game for Kopecky&new FabiaR5...

I didn't think it would be so easy. Pech is master of our roads and especially on wet and mud it's very very hard to defeat him (now he is moreover on Pirelli tyres which are traditionally perfect when wet). You could see it several times in Barum that when it's wet he is able to fight with anybody from IRC/ERC. For him it's also very good to start first because he is taking a lot of cuts throwing mud on the road which makes it difficult for drivers behind him (sometimes it's clear that he cuts only to make the road dirty).

We saw on Sumava that the brute power of the Fabia is better than Pech's mini, so it must be down to tyre/driver combination. Nothing too much to worry about, as Mirek pointed out Pech is pretty quick at home.

For private reasons I could only watch one stage (Malonty 1). The difference between Pech/Kopecky an the rest was amazing. Pech and Kopecky were really fast.
I think that Valousek had the short gearbox if this is right it is not understandable for me.
Kopacek was also nice to watch. He would really deserve to reach the finishline soon.
Disappointing were Cerny -were has he lost his speed - and the two WRCs. Dohnal should go back to 207 S2000. I think he was faster with this car.
All in all although I only saw one stage Rallye Krumlov was again a great rally.
Mirek
24th May 2015, 21:42
Valoušek really has the shortest gearbox. In my opinion it is because he uses stock fuel and therefore lacks power. Dohnal is learning the car. They also have a lot of technical problems with it. They learn how to use it, how to set it etc. It's going slowly and he admits that it's far from being good now.
Pech mistake must be quite a relief for Škoda Motosport.
I don't know if it would have been so close if it was dry.. a typical Kopecky performance..cautious in tricky conditions but again finishes in 1st.
