I'm back. ****ty weather again. Very nice fight of S2000 guys. Odložilík shall not rent WRC cars. He is afraid to crash them. With his S2000 he is way faster (anyway one of his best drives ever I would say). Jakeš very impressive considering he run Gr.N car with 32 mm restrictor (mandatory in our sprint championship) against Sýkora with top R4 car.

1. Kostka (Fiesta WRC) 44:24,2
2. Tarabus (Fabia S2000) +47,7
3. Odložilík (Fabia S2000) +54,7
4. Grzyb (Fabia S2000) +59,8
5. Jakeš (Evo IX gr.N smaller restrictor) +1:52,7
6. Tlusťák (Lancer WRC) +2:03,0
7. Sýkora (Evo IX R4) +2:03,6
8. Trněný (Fabia WRC) +3:16,3
9. Březík (Evo IX gr.N smaller restrictor) +3:42,7
10. Firla (Evo IX gr.N smaller restrictor) +3:55,0

Kahle didn't start into SS2. He had some off in SS1 and maybe damaged something.

Tomaštík had a huge crash, the Impreza S12 is gone, part of the rollcage was torn away. Both driver and co-driver injured but not seriously.

This is crazy onboard of Jakeš (last part of onboard over famous Všemina forest is a must to watch). At least once very close to a big crash (and not only on this stage...). Co-driver asking all the time to calm down...

I like Jakeš onboard, especialy the last part (after 5:00 min), full atack on the downhill section, and in wet, quite scary....

Speaking on genaral, you have (for my taste) beautiful stages, very fast, sometimes between villages...compared to stages in Slovenia, where more than half of stages are very twisty, narrow, no high speed sections....

That's interesting quote from You. Here if You ask anyone who has something to do with rallying he would tell You that Slovenia has generally much nicer stages than what we have because those are twisty, technical and without broken asphalt everywhere... Although I love the fast sections for crazy spectacle on places I agree with majority that with modern cars our stages became quite a lot dangerous.

Another great rally from Jakes. Might we see him this year in the Big championship again?
I'm already looking forward to Rallye Krumlov in 2 weeks. The entries are quite promising. Hopefully this will be the First rally of the czech season with good weather.

Mirek
12th May 2013, 15:20
Good weather in Český Krumlov? :D On another note... be prepared for extreme spectator safety measures. They already proclaimed all places out of official spectator points are prohibited. I think that it's an attempt to force as many people as possible to easy controllable areas but still it's worrying development although understandable after all what happened.

Jakeš has only Barum from MMČR in his program.

Fiat-131-Abarth
12th May 2013, 15:51
Thank you for your answer. Strict safety measures are understandable after what happened last year. Do you already know if the place next to the Austrian boarder near Cetviny on the Malonty stage will be an official spectator place? I was there the last years and this a quite safe and nice place.

Mirek
12th May 2013, 16:59
I have no idea. Unfortunately I don't plan to go to Český Krumlov. I think that the reality will not look like hermetically closed areas around stages. That's impossible anyway, just expect tables "forbidden area" around 100% of stage length to keep people at least behind them far from the road. That's how it was in the events where I was so far.

Anyway it's sad to see MMČR entry lists this year...

Kopecký - probably only 2 events in CZ
Kresta - only 3 events this year
Valoušek - not driving
Prokop - nothing in CZ
Semerád - not driving
Běhálek - not driving
Kopáček - not driving
Bujáček - not driving
Arazim - ended active career
Trojan - only one or two events per year

Hello for all again!

I'm happy to be here again.

My name is Eneko Celayeta and I'm Zelaieta Motorsports Corrdinator & Driver and EC Sim Hardware "Motorsport Simulation Enginering" founder & CEO.

There was many years out of this forum due work and free time reasons.

Hope I can find little bit more free time to keep enjoying our sport with all you!

Now, talking about Tomaštík crash, it absolutelly looks scary one. Hope both are ok.

How it happens? Wrong note call or simply lost of control caused by the mud on the road?

Really, it doesn't look a low speed crash ...

It is also need to be mentioned the heavy performance from Jakes.

I have the chance to see the posted onboard and he is able to maintain very high rythm on it and push even more in the last part of the stage where the conditions aren't the best.

Congratulation for it!

Best regards.

I know it is a bit off-topic, I'm sorry for that, but I just want you to show one tipical stage in Slovenia (it is from Rally Saturnus, held few day ago):

eWRC.cz - Video Onboard Novak-Ocvirk FabiaR2 Rally Saturnus 2013 (http://www.ewrc.cz/ewrc/videoportal_show.php?idvideo=13760&title=onboard-novak-ocvirk-fabiar2-rally-saturnus-2013)

25 km long, even once the driver doesn't select the 5th gear, at least five times you drive on gravel sections, all the time up&down, al lot of mud and gravel on tarmac...goath paths. Compared to Czech stages you have ''heaven roads''......You can imagine how nice is to drive with slicks on gravel, all the time you are afraid to damage the tyre or rim....By the way, the driver is 19 years old, this was his third rally and on this stage he managed 4th fastest time....

Mirek
14th May 2013, 15:26
I know stages of Saturnus, I always enjoyed the onboards of our crews going there in previous year. Your stages are great! I can also assure You that our crews which started in Saturnus mostly loved the stages, also the gravel sections. Nobody ever said those were rough, in fact the opposite.

Majks21

Aha, thanks.

Here another great onboard of Jakeš, this time from one of our hardest stages called Kameňák, the route from 3:40 to finish is a classic part of Barum rally stage Troják. This time just perfect driving :) By the way Tomaštík crashed in difficult section somewhere at time 6:50-7:10.

Zelaieta Motorsports

Thanks for the onboard Mirek!

This time his driving looks almost clean on every section.

Also I manage to identify Tomaštík crash section and looking at the speed that Jakeš achieved during the turn I'm a bit confused about what cause those heavy damages in his S12B.

I mean that I have seen so many crashes happened during high speed sections with less damages for the car in general.

It's posible that apart from the trees, the car stunk with some big rocks or something.

Best regards.

A lot of crashes today like usually in Český Krumlov. Some big ones but fortunately nothing serious with anybody. Pech on different league than anyone else. Odložilík long time second but crashed. Kresta and Tarabus both facing problems with faulty engine maps from Škoda Motorsport. Something is wrong with throttle reactions. But both also admit that they are driving bad. Last stage is strange. Myachin crashed into a chicane made of straw bales which were moved into the road. Later Búš crashed there too. It seems somebody was shown yellow flag and somebody not (it looks like Pech did it full speed but Kresta sure not). Now there is a mess in times and we have to wait for some decision from stewards.

First onboards including big (and somewhat stupid) crash of Adolf: http://www.mediasport.cz/rally/onboardy.html

I wonder why no Austrians are driving there - it´s only some few km away from Jänner Rallye area and only about 30-40 km from Linz?

Mirek
25th May 2013, 16:45
There were some in historics but sure it's good question. Maybe you can ask in Austria :)

Anyway rally is finished without major dramas which is good. Pity for Odložilík who was doing really really well before his crash.

1. Pech (Mini S2000) 1:41:22,1
2. Kresta (Fabia S2000) +1:14,1
3. Tarabus (Fabia S2000) +1:35,3
4. Jelínek (Fabia S2000) +4:17,4
5. Dohnal (207 S2000) +5:10,3
6. Štajf (Impreza N4) +6:38,6
7. Mifka (Evo IX N4) +6:46,1
8. Černý (207 R2) +9:11,3
9. Barvík (Evo IX N4) +10:07,9
10. Peták (Clio R3) +10:24,0
11. Smékal (DS3 R3) +11:11,3
12. Triner (Clio R3) +11:12,9

Top five of historics

1. Kalista (Legacy RS) 1:49:00,4 (one stage was canceled, so don't compare times of both championships)
2. Krejča (Škoda 130LR) +4:04,3
3. Káňa (Sierra Cosworth) +5:56,0
4. Petrášek (Ascona B) +7:29,7
5. Steiner (Swift GTi) +10:40,1

What is bad that people reported incredibly strict level of "spectator regulation" like no walking on stage already one hour before start etc. despite really low number of spectators compared to last years. So far it was the most extreme of all events and I hope the others will be better.

Fiat-131-Abarth

I'm visiting Rallye Krumlov since 2003 and the only Austrian I remembered who started in the modern field was Bernhard Jahn in 2005. i Wonder since many years why this fabolous rally isn't part of the Austrian championship.

The safety measures were quite strict. I had to stand 15 meters away from the place I stood the last years on Malonty, but it was no problem to cross the road after the 0 car.

By the way the first time I saw Kresta live was on Malonty 2003. Maybe it was also the last time I saw this great driver live.

Drama for Czech rally sport seems to be never ending ... :(

Unfortunately yes. This time it was re-born Rallye Teplice, an event which used to be famous in 1980'. It was pat of amateur series Rallye Cup. Great mountain stages, different to our usual, ones, but also very terrible weather today. Many accidents happened today. There are very few information available. There was only one female crew on the entry list so I suppose to know who it was but it was not confirmed so I will not post anything speculative.

Where is Kostka??

Kosta doesn't do the championship. He even doesn't take points (1.6T WRC are not allowed to score points). His starts were only testing of the car.

This crash can stop rally in Czech Republic for a moment? Before this heard that many people who can do something was negative to this beautiful sport in Czech Republic...

Mirek
2nd June 2013, 12:42
Now it is confirmed that 44-years old Evo IX driver Věra Filipová died in the accident. Her daughter and co-driver Karolína was seriously injured (I'm not sure she was a daughter but I think so). The accident happened in very bad weather at the end of stage, some people say behind flying finish. I can't confirm that. There are also reports that due to the chaos on the road next driver lost control and crashed into the already crashed car. What is really sad is that the next driver was Vladimír Filip, husband of the late Věra. She was doing some amateur hill-climbs and various races since 2005. This was her first Rallye Cup event. I found an old article where she described the road where the accident happened as her favorite hill-climb track. During the rally the road was run in both directions and I don't know if it happened downhill or uphill.

Rest in peace :(

It's hard to think about some common solutions in case of this accident. The series Rallye Cup is not held under national ASN so we can hardly speak about some common rules. I watched onboard from the other stage and I can hardly say anything against it. Very twisty technical road, plenty of chicanes on almost every straight, no spectators in dangerous places. The points I would personally change for the Rallye Cup would be to limit car power. If I'm not mistaken in this moment there are no restrictors used there. The second point could be not running the stages in both directions which is quite common there. On asphalt the dirt and gravel in the corners can be very unlogic when run in opposite way.

If I'm not mistaken it was first ever fatal accident in this series. There were several others in amateur events in the past but generally most of the fatal accidents happen in "big" events under ASN where the competition is much stronger.

Mirek
22nd June 2013, 09:31
There was a short light rain in SS4 after first crews and thanks to silly starting order some 2WD profited from it. Later in the night there was a storm which brought a lot of dirt and mud on the roads of second leg. Great fight anyway because Pech is now back in the lead. I think there are three main factors - Hustopeče were always his strong rally - it's very good rally for turbo cars with good acceleration from zero and high top speed (Pech was able to win against S2000 there even in Evo IX) - and finally the team did a lot of development work on the Mini.

Regarding the Mini here is an interesting quote from Pech

I'm absolutely satisfied with the car. I don't want to speak too soon but we managed to fix the bugs mainly ourselves without the help of the English. It's our team product. A satisfaction is that now Proidrive wants to copy our ideas but we won't tell them anything of course because they didn't tell us a s.h.i.t. too.

By the way Černý now lost over 5 minutes in SS6.

After a thrilling battle Jan Kopecký completes his hattrick on this rally. Nobody except Kopecký is now able to follow Pech and his Mini now. The days of naturally aspirated S2000 slowly become a past...

1. Kopecký (Fabia S2000) 1:38:24,7
2. Pech (Mini S2000) +2,2
3. Tarabus (Fabia S2000) +1:44,8
4. Jelínek (Fabia S2000) +3:36,4
5. Odložilík (Fabia S2000) +3:46,5
6. Štajf (Impreza gr.N) +6:04,2
7. Růžička (Impreza gr.N) +9:09,9
8. Chepil (Evo IX gr.N) +9:53,8

Recently I would call it a crusade against spectators. Me and many others stopped going to spectate because it doesn't worth it (to be fair not all events are like that). I will go to Barum though but probably nowhere else.

Otherwise there is a significantly lower number of competitors, also on the top and the quality and atmosphere overall has decreased in comparison with last few years. Organizers face big problems to get permissions for running many stages etc.

Not much positives recently...

It is quite difficult, Jan Sykora was not driving S2000 car many times. Usually he droves Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX R4...

His first start was Rally Luzicke Hory - Galaxy GRS Rally Lu (http://rally-base.com/crew-profile/crew-detail/?competitionId=254&crewId=18951)

2. Pech (Mini S2000) 26,3
3. Kresta (Fabia S2000) +35,7

9. Vrkoslav (C2 S1600) +8:36,8 (first start with ex-Tlusťák's car)
10. Smékal (DS3 R3T) +8:44,1

In the R2 battle Elwis Chentre with updated Fabia R2 defeated Jan Černý with 208 R2. Between 9th and 16th place overall there were only 36 seconds so in results it looks like a bigger difference than it was. Anyway well done to Elwis.

What festival? Who played? Was it worth seeing? :)

Masters of Rock in Vizovice. In the area of Rudolf Jelínek distillery close to the start of former Barum stage Zádveřice. I was my 7th edition now (first in 2005) so I think I know the festival quite well :) In my opinion it sure worth visiting. Very nice people there and a very good audience as well. But of course it's still a metal festival so there is still a lot of drinking and some mess around like always. Normally the audience is around 20 thousand people (some years were close to 30 thousand) and the festival takes four days and bands are performing since the morning. Here is something from the "evening" lineup of this year.

Avantasia
Accept (taking a live DVD there!)
Rage and Lingua Mortis Orchestra (world premiere of the new show, the CD will come out next month)
Moonspell (should have been also special show only for this festival with many rare songs and it's true that it was completely different than their concert I was half a year a go)
Devin Townsend Project
Powertwolf
Brainstorm
Primal Fear
Grave digger
The 69 yes
Waltari
Yngwie Malmsteen
Masterplan
Leningrad Cowboys (a little WTF for some people but it was fun)
Lordi
Leaves' Eyes & Atrocity

I missed him frankly. For me 1,5 hours of guitar solo is a bit too much. You can't stay in front of the podium all the time anyway. I saw 24 bands this year and I think I'm hardly physically able to do more with still having fun :D

I only regret that Moonspell were this time before sunset. They shall play near midnight. But I saw them already several times and in three months I'm going to see them again so it's good that it's always somewhat different. This time in a small club here in Prague so the atmosphere will be completely different too :)

This is very difficult as Sykora was usually starting with Lancer Evo IX R4 and two times with Fabia S2000. In his career he is doing mainly rallysprints + Bohemia. But I think that with Fabia S2000 he should be +- on same speed.

What is your opinion of Sykora performance anda Fiesta R5 performance. Can you compare this performance from the others rally that he made with s2000? Just to see how fast is the car...

As Pluto said it's hard to estimate moreover because I was out for whole weekend. Anyway from what I saw in Ypres I doubt that Fiesta R5 is now faster than Fabia S2000 (on asphalt). If it is than just slightly.

Lappi second in SS1 by 0,2 seconds behind Odložilík in Xsara WRC. Very good although this stage suits him probably best because there is a narrow forest part on gravel and the whole stage is very technical.

Mirek
10th August 2013, 08:08
Odložilík reported to have a big crash in SS2! Crew reported OK. It's same stage where he crashed last year. Lappi in the lead.

Mirek
10th August 2013, 15:46
So Esapekka Lappi took a dominant victory. After the crash of Odložilík only Sýkora remained in the fight but just for two stages where he closed to Lappi. After that Lappi attacked hard on the two hardest stages where Sýkora lost huge time to him. Both of those stages are mostly very narrow and it has definitely a lot to do with Sýkora's confidence after that strange crash from Bohemia. For third third place there was a fight of Jakeš, Kahle and Trněný. Kahle attacked hard in the very last stage and overtook Jakeš for podium. By the way Lappi was on ERC tyres as the only one I think.

1. Lappi (Fabia S2000) 42:05,5
2. Sýkora (Fiesta R5) +49,1
3. Kahle (Fabia WRC) +1:12,9
4. Jakeš (Evo IX N4) +1:25,6
5. Trněný (Fabia WRC) +1:37,8
6. Barvík (Evo IX N4) +2:38,4
7. Pešl (Evo IX N4) +3:00,4
8. Adolf (Fabia S2000) +3:07,4
9. Trnovec (Fabia S2000) +3:16,4
10. Kořístka (Evo IX N4) +3:30,5 (twice off in SS2)

Major retirements: Odložilík (Xsara WRC) accident from 1st place in SS2 (-0,2 to Lappi), Plíhal (Octavia WRC) accident from 6th place in SS6

I can drink some of them though Pilsner, Radegast or Kozel but otherwise I prefer others not well known. There are quite a lot beerstüben here where they have like 5-10 taps and when one keg of some beer is done they take other of different brand. You can try dozens of beers like that :)

Since many of You are sure interested in that, I'm going to shortly describe development in the investigation of the Rallyshow Uherský Brod tragedy. Police now finished investigation and decided to charge only one person - the young marshal who was there with the girls killed in the accident. The event organization was found ok by the police. The result of police work is logical and kind of expected in light of information from the place and in-car videos of other crews. Now it's up to court but it's a question if another punishment is needed when the guy lost his friends there. Terrible situation by all angles of view.

After 3 stages Jakeš leading Rally Jeseníky overall. He is entered in class 2 so that he can run bigger restrictor (in our rallysprints N4 have only 32 mm for safety reasons and only R4 are allowed normal 33 mm). Otherwise his car is probably not full R4. My fingers crossed for him!

Just curious, what rules do your historic cars run to, as it's pretty impressive to see Kalista making top 10 stage times in a Legacy. Although from the pics I have seen of it, it's not a real period car judging by the cage?

Mirek
22nd September 2013, 02:36
Our historic regulations are close to FIA Historic ERC ones but not fully same (for example they can use same tyres as modern cars). Also newer cars are allowed here (up to 1992). All cars must have up-to-date rollcages like in ERC events though, some even HANS.

Kalista's car is newly built from stock bodyshell bought somewhere in Italy. The car is half. Gr.N car because he didn't have money for many gr.A parts. So it's half gr.N car with gr.A engine which is fitted with only 34 mm restrictor according to our rules (I think it had 38 or 40 mm in its time). Kalista is a good driver but he was driving in small amateur events till this season. Always only few events per year in a gr.A Evo V but he usually defeated all competitors in newer cars easily.

Here You can see his onboard from another event (quite extremely fast stage): http://www.mediasport.cz/jezdci---rally ... /5087.html (http://www.mediasport.cz/jezdci---rally/kalista-jiri/5087.html)

22nd September 2013, 05:55
Thanks, quite good driving. Looks like a well setup car with nicely suited gear ratios too for such a fast stage, although I didn't hear any antilag?

Very impressive to be so fast in a Legacy, although I imagine road position helped a little. I rallied one a few years ago and they are a heavy car, but if it is newly built I guess you can take a lot of weight out and a strong cage will help make up for the chassis somewhat. Do you still have to run the factory intercooler on it?

In NZ we are quite lucky in that cars are largely limited only by a minimum weight and 36mm restrictor, so we run E85 and have some quite powerful cars that are able to be built up in a small workshop, not restricted so much by rules. We even have a few custom cars like a turbo 4WD Suzuki Swift. So you can potentially win rallies in an older car as long as the money is spent right and you have a talented enough driver. Although there is some rules to restrict you from running a modern WRC car at least.

Mirek

Frankly I don't know the historic rules so closely to give You exact answer.

About road position - this was first event in CZ where historics were running first before the modern cars (it is like that in Rally Šumava which is held together with Historic ERC Rallye Vltava but there both fields have different supplementary regulations and their own zero cars). It was raining and some mud was on the roads so it might help guys from historic cars, yes.

Some news for 2014:

International championship
- 7 events (same as this year but P?íbram may be replaced by Valašská rally)
- FIA ERC tyres mandatory BUT cutting allowed - also in Barum rally and all EC events which means that there will be two sets of sporting stewards - one for FIA event, one for MM?R and results may be separated at the end. I don't like that personally but I understand the reasons.

Sprint championship
- reduced to 7 events (calendar not yet)
- FIA 2012-2014 tyres allowed including cutting

In both championships classes R1 and R2 will get separate classification to boost them.

Entry list for Rally P?íbram: http://www.rally-pribram.cz/2013_startovni_cisla.html

Five parts - MM?R, Historics, Cup, DRS and Legend (no times measured). DRS is disappointing for me :(

My kind of stage, you need balls to go almost 80% time flat out....and what an engine note !! Flat engine+turbo= orgasmic

Thanks for the footage, always good to see how other parts of the world do things. Are all the Czech roads use for rally bumpy like these?

Very often they are, sometimes even more bumpy. There are some rallies with generally smoother roads (Bohemia for example) and others with very bumpy and worn asphalt or even macadam (Barum for example).

This is a photo from typical Barum stage

Rally P?íbram online: http://rally-base.com/2013/enteria-rally-pribram-2013/

Tarabus out on SS1 with broken prop-shaft.

Pech broke a chicane on SS2 and lost some time. He will take a penalty for that most likely. His only chance for title is to ddefeat Kopecký and wait for him to make something stupid.

Finally some GREAT news :)

Miroslav Jakeš will drive Citroën DS3 R5 in the international Czech championship (except Jänner). He will also appear with it in three asphalt Austrian events (shall be some close to Wienna because the main sponsor eye clinic Gemini is interested in that). He signed an agreement with the main sponsor for four years.

Mirek Jakeš won again! He was in the lead since the first stage. When his only opponent Grzyb retired with broken engine it was all clear. Nevertheless the new sprint champion is Odložilík. Jakeš had more points from all starts but as two worst results are nulled Jakeš lost it to Odložilík who had better car (Xsara WRC and Fabia S2000).

1. Jakeš (Evo IX half-R4) 40:58,3
2. Odložilík (Fabia S2000) +29,5
3. Sýkora (Fiesta R5) +35,9
4. Cvr?ek (Fabia S2000) +56,2
5. Dohnal (207 S2000) +57,6
6. Tlus?ák (Fabia S2000) +1:29,4
7. Adolf (Fabia S2000) +1:33,8
8. B?ezík (Evo IX N4) +1:42,1
9. Pešl (Evo IX N4) +1:50,1
10. Trnovec (Fabia S2000) +1:51,0

Major retirements: Grzyb (Fabia S2000) - engine, Tomaštík (Impreza WRC S7) - engine. Trn?ný (Fabia WRC) changed wheel on one stage from 6th place. By the way 86 crews finished!

Here a great onboard of Jakeš from SS1. It's part of well known Barum stage Semetín, very dirty. Jakeš took a major lead already there :vader:

Sýkora lost most of the time in the first loop where he was not feeling confident as I heard. There was some fog (SS2) and quite many wet and dirty places (mainly SS1). Both stages are also very hard and narrow (second onboard of Jakeš is the same stage as SS2 but second run). Later Sýkora was clearly faster than Odložilík and was closing to him in every stage. On the other hand Odložilík could finish even third to be champion. In my opinion Sýkora is better driver than Odložilík but Jakeš is better than both.

SS1 is part of Barum rally stage Semetín and both Kostka and Valoušek were totally of the pace there during Barum rally as well. I think that it will take some time to set Fiesta R5 properly for typical stages in this area. With Fiesta S2000 it took a long time as well when Tarabus was driving one of Prokop's team. Last year Flodin with Fiesta S2000 from Petter Solberg's team was also off the pace and in my opinion it had also a lot to do with setup.

Probably in not bumpy tarmac And in gravel the car would be better from the begining...

I have a question to the czech forum members. Will the results of the national elections have influence of the future of rallysport in the CR?

Mirek
27th October 2013, 10:45
I don't think there would be any direct impact on rallysport. The only thing I can say for sure now is that from these results no stable government can be created unless some parties change their pre-ellection stances. Let's see what comes out of this mess.
