A really interesting battle in France indeed, almost as interesting as in Croatia. 4 top drivers in a margin of 7 seconds. Although it's quite strange that a WRC driver can't beat a Super 2000 car.

There was, this week end in Picardy, a beautiful Off Road Rally event. It is part of the OffRoad Rally Championship. Buggy are incredibly powerful, fast, and spectacular. If you can see this, go ! It is difficult to describe, maybe there will be nice video online :)

Arnaud Augoyard will be back in French Championship, entering the Rally des Vins Mâcons with a Punto S2000, runned by Msr. :)
He was a fantastic driver with the 306 Maxi some years ago, and he was official Renault driver with clio S1600 in 2006.

What happened with Jean-Marc Manzagol (+3'30" in SS4) in the Ronde de la Giraglia?

Nice fight for the victory between Charles Zuccarelli (206 WRC) and Pascal Trojani (307 WRC, +0"6 after the first day).

I've got a question: Is there anything motorsport-related going on in the area of Annecy in July? I'll be there around that time and was wondering about it, you never know. :)

Thanks in advance.

vino_93

Annecy in July it is more the Tour de France than motorsport ... but I'll look :)

vino_93
20th June 2013, 14:19
So in Rhône Alpes for rallies you have :
Rallye de Saint Marcellin, 5 and 6 july. it's around 1h30 from Annecy, in Saint Marcellin
Rallye de Saint-Marcellin (38) (http://www.rallygo.com/go/epreuves/article.php?storyid=1092)

Rallye de la Drôme, 20 and 21 juillet. it's around 2h from Annecy, in Saint Jean en Royans.
Rallye de la Drôme (26) (http://www.rallygo.com/go/epreuves/article.php?storyid=1106)

The 5 july you have too another event, but 2h30 for Annecy (Côte Roannaise, close to Lyon)

In Hillclimb, you have the 5 juillet the race in Vuillafans. It's 2h30 from Annecy, but that's French Championship (and one of the most famous event)
Course de Côte de Vuillafans-Echevannes (25) (http://www.rallygo.com/go/epreuves/article.php?storyid=134)

You have a slalom in the same department !
That's in Ville-la-Grand (in suburbs of Genève, close to Annemasse) : Slalom de Ville-la-Grand (74) (http://www.rallygo.com/go/epreuves/article.php?storyid=868)
it looks like it's not a so bad slalom (I mean, it's not a race btw tyres in a parking !)

After for the rest :
Trial 4x4 Montriond (1h30 from Annecy). 21/07
I've no idea of what it is ...

and I think that's all :)

EightGear

That's all the problem with gravel. As FFSA don't care about it, organizers don't have money ...

You have the two most important forums, so sorry ... :) In fact, forum-rallye is more or less the only now. But I'm not really sure about his quality ... :)
But you couldn't find maps, because they are secrets, in order to prevent illegal recce. You have to go to the centre of the rally.

For entry list ... we have to wait :(
But first part of it was published (A to M).
In WRC : Baud (307), Beaubelique (Focus), Carbonaro (C4), Chieusse (307), Cuoq (C4), Hennion (DS3), Lapouilles (Impreza)
S2000 : Jacquot (207)
R4 : Bruyneel (Impreza)
R3 : Colney (DS3), Daumas (DS3), Demaerschalk (DS3), Dubert (DS3), Giordano (DS3), Maurage (DS3), Meo (DS3), ...
R2 : Abbring (208), Abelli (208), Cherain (208), Comoli (208), Consani (208), Gago (208), Lefebvre (208), Margaillan (208), ...
N4 : Feraud (Lancer X), Houssin (Lancer Vi),
A8 : Deveza (Impreza GT), Fouques (Impreza 555), Gillouin (Impreza GT)
etc ...

Quite comon for the moment.

I hope you will enjoy. I'd like to go there, but it'll not be for this year, again ... :(

Thanks! Pitty Chicherit isn't there, I thought he wanted to go for a full championship. Nice to see some relatively recent WRC cars in French gravel rallying... :) Pitty FFSA doesn't invest more into the gravel championship, it has a big potential in my opinion.

Quite a shakeup in the 208 Cup after Terre de l'Auxerrois.

Both Abbring and Lefebvre chose this rally to use their 'joker' which would double the points they would score there.

Abbring retired on SS3 with a broken engine while he was 2nd behind Noel Tron (who crashed on SS3). Lefebvre took the lead but was in second position today, yet he still won because the leader, Matthieu Margaillan crashed 200 meters from the finish of the last stage!

So, before the rally Lefebvre was 36 points behind Abbring in the standings, but now he will be in the lead by 7 points because his points count double and he won most stages which earns him 3 points as well.

29th July 2013, 07:17
Really enjoyed my first "Terre de France", I'm surely go back in the future! Fantastic roads, nothing like we know in Belgium :)

Cuoq wasn't spectaculair, but obvisiously the fastest. Baud, Chieusse, Deveza etc. were really impressive!

In the 208 cup, Abbring, Tron, Martin, Lefevre, they were all full attack all the time. A pity Tron and Abbring had to retire. Margaillan drove very clean but fast, stupid he crashed in the end with a 40s lead...

The DS3 cup wasn't as spectacular as the 208 cup. Vigion and Dubert were visibly fastest, Demaerschalck only impressed me on the last stage.

Later today I will post some pictures!

tommeke_B
29th July 2013, 11:42
Also had a great event. It's a unique championship indeed, quite strange that it gets only little attention, apparently FFSA doesn't want it to grow too much... Seen very spectacular things (as always on French gravel), especially the commitment of the drivers in trophies is stunning. The level of the 208 Cup is crazy, can't wait to see them again...

It has been like that for years... Not only on gravel, on tarmac also. 2 years ago in "Terre de Langres" we drove a stage on Friday, so before official recce. There were many signs of recce, such as huge cutting. Normally nobody is using thos roads, they are too brutal for a normal road car also... Concerning tarmac championship I heard similar stories from people who competed there. One codriver recently told me "The French are the biggest cheaters you can imagine." In Belgium people know about illegal recce, in France they don't. Same is happening in The Netherlands but there they manage to keep it quiet too... ;)

Same is happening in The Netherlands but there they manage to keep it quiet too... ;)

Even in French Cup illegal recce are done... in some part of France, as in Rhône Alpes (but not only there) it's local sport.

Well, I just read a new french regulation about rally taken by our government. It's more or less the same as in czech ...
"all areas others than "authorized zone" (=spectator zone) must be considered as forbidden"
new FFSA regulations

well ... smaller rallies will more or less disappeard with this rule which will see spectators leaving the roads :( More and more people are really fed up with the more and more strict regulation, and it continues ...

If I've time, I'll see this in a small rally close to my parents house. If not, I'll wait 2014 ...
Let's see ...

Good to see Millet back in the top !

I hope Abbring will win the championship and have an official drive with peugeot next year ... but some mistakes are done now, it can be decisive for the end of the year :/

Looks like I may be going to Rallye Bourgogne next year (for a number of complicated reasons). Anyway its position in the French schedule has been creeping towards the start of July for the last 6 years. Does anyone know yet if it will be held on weekend of 5/7 or 12/7 in 2014?
Thanks

Gilbert is driving home in that event, he is from the region, that may explain the difference. Most of the time they are close. But for example last year in Rallye du Var Chardonnet was much quicker, partly because Gilbert wanted to secure his title in Citroën DS3 Trophy. ;)

No, it's same car.

R3T - 1.6 turbo petrol

This week end, it is time for Finale of the French Cup. Hold in Oyonnax (Ain, Rhône Alpes, small city known for his rugby club, close to Switzerland and Genève). Last finale in east part of France for a while I hope :) As next year will be in La Rochelle (West, rugby city too :D ), and 2015 is between North and Corsica.

So 6 S2000 are at the start. In fact 5 + 1 RRC. The car renting by Ludovic Gherardi, the local of the finale, as he is living on a stage ... he made all to secure this victory : subscribing to a small comity (Champagne - Ardennes) in order to secure easy qualification with a small number of rally and renting the most powerfull car he can : a Fiesta RRC, from an Irish team (Keltech Motorsport).
He has no really contenders, except maybe other local Jérôme Chavanne. With a 207 S2000, renting from BDS Racing (ex Delta Racing). He finished 6th on Mont Blanc with it, but it will be hard to fight against the RRC ...

Other top contender is Michel Giraldo with an old 306 Maxi. The 306 Maxi will live its last final next year. Here Giraldo hopes to finish on podium ... as he won 8 events with it this year !

4 other S2000 are here in Oyonnax : first for corsican driver Paul Alerini, codrived by Cyril Audirac (winner of 208 Cup in Antibes). Quite surprisingly he is for the moment at ease on stages, as Normandy driver Romain Martel. This young guy drove all around the France to learn experience, and prepared the final going in Mont Blanc and Suran (part of Swiss champ, even if it's run in France). If these two rallies were difficult for him, things have been happening quite well for him, as he is easily leading the other 207 S2000 coming from Normandy, the car of Sébastien Alemany. First time here, and lot of difficulties for him, as roads are really different from what he knows.
Last S2000 is the 207 of Jean-Luc Roche, father of Pierre. he lost lot of times, and the final will be difficult for him ...

For the rest, we have a lot of good guys, coming from all around the France. We can see good battle in F2/14, where Auvergne's Thomas Badel is leading local Raphaël Michaud. S1600 driver Patrick Magnou is doing well, as usual, whereas in N4 Mickaël Lobry is trying to break Romain Salinas (winner of Twingo R2 Trophy 2012) and David Mollas.
In R, the surprise is coming from Mickaël Crepy, leading with his C2 R2. Julien Brunero, Pascal Berard and Damien Dorseuil (this one from la Réunion) are trying to catch him with Clio R3.
And in GT, Murat Dogral take a small advantage on Jean Pascal Besson.

You can find leading entries (and later full entry list) here : http://www.ewrc-results.com/startlist.p ... onnax-2013 (http://www.ewrc-results.com/startlist.php?e=13344&t=Finale-de-la-Coupe-de-France-des-Rallyes-Oyonnax-2013)

so that was an easy victory of Gherardi, ahead of Chavanne and Giraldo. No surprise.
Badel finished fourth with Clio Williams F2/14, just before of 207 S2000 of Alerini and Martel ! Good victory for Salinas in N, 8th overall. After a difficult beginning of rally, he took the advantage on Mollas and Lobry.
13th and 14th, we have winners in R and GT : Pascal Berard and Murat Dogral.

Renaud Verreydt should have start, but as he destroyed his car in Condroz he can't :(
Unfortunately I learn it a bit too late, as entry closure is monday, but another event will be run in 2014 for another experience like this ! (as lot of french can't start the Var too)

Eric Brunson will test his new toy at the Rallye de la Côte fleurie(Normandy)next week ;)
By the way, a nice entrylist with 3 WRC, 4 S2000 and big number of GrR 2WD cars... ;)

The same week-end will be Rallye des Routes du Nord(northern France)do you know if there'll be some british and belgian drivers there

vino_93
14th February 2014, 18:03
Yes belgian crews will be there.
Bart Maes with Octavia WRC, Filip Pyck with Lancer Evo IX (due to change of rules in Belgian champ), Stephaan Vanneste with Clio RS (N3), Filip Barbier (Lancer IX), Piet Declercq (Lancer Evo VIII), and Bjorn Hamiaux in Historic race.

Disappointing entry list for RDN. Usually it's great event, but this year ... clearly La Côte Fleurie has better entry list. Around 80 entries in modern, whereas these last years it was more than 100.
Bayard should win easily, but Salaun with his new Sub (S5 WrC) could be a good contender, if he takes it right.
Some Adam R2 guy will be there : Pierre Marché, who makes his come back, and Jean-René Perry.

In La Côte FLeurie, 4 WRC : that should be easy win for Brunson with his Fiesta. Other guys with WRC are Reydellet with a poor 206 WRC, nothing to expect ... Old José Barbara with his Mini. Not sure if he'll start. Nothing to expect too, not really at ease with this car. 4th is Hervé Knapick with his 206 WRC, maybe the second place for him (rallycross specialist doing some rally).
Interesting in S2000 : Sébastien Alemany and Romain Martel, who fought last year in Normandy league with their 207. With the same car there will be Stéphane Pustelnik, really fast driver - but first race with his new car (ex Saintéloc), and Maxence Maurice, unknown driver who run only on this rally.
And the 5th is Pierre Ragues, sportscar driver (Signature, OAK, Alpine ...) with a Fabia S2000.

Other interesting entries are Arnaud Macherey (DS3 R3), Mathias de Sousa (first race with Sub R4), Michel Morin (last race with Lancer R4 before switching for Fiesta S2000 ex Betti), Michael Bourgeois (Lancer Evo VIII), Eddie Lemaitre (Clio R3), Anthony Cosson (Mégane RS, he ran one of the first Porsche GT+ in France), Arnaud Gautier (Mégane RS, former french cup winner) and of course Cédric Robert with Evo VII :bounce:

But he is too a good helper for young guys. In 2000 Loeb should have use his Mégane for the Rallye Alsace Vosges (but Fréquelin didn't want), and from some years he is helping Gilbert. This year he will invest more on him : he'll give him his C4 WRC for Le Touquet, and and said in an interview he will organize another ride for Gilbert, with the DS3 in a French Championship round, if it's possible (according to calendar) :)

Sorry for Ingram to roll the car. He was showing good speed until he rolled. I'm very impressed with Jaro Kinnunen's pace in his first tarmac rally. On the last stages of the day his sec per kilometre difference to the fastest guys in the 208 cup has been very good. Hopefully the pace increasing trend continues today.

After day 1, Maurin has a clear lead. Cuoq had to retire during the last stage of the day. But he has to make caution to Gilbert, who is learning the C4. Brunson had a difficult beginning of rally but now he can hope a podium, reducing the gap on Roche.
Amourette is leading the Michelin Trophy with the DS3 R3. The best northern is Pruvot with Impreza. it's the first time this car is going well. For national events, it can be interesting, as Bayard won too easily the last years ...

1 Maurin (Fiesta WRC)
2 Gilbert (C4 WRC) 31"7
3 Roche (Mini WRC) 1'00"0
4 Brunson (Fiesta WRC) 1'12"6
5 Baud (Fiesta WRC) 2'03"9
6 Pruvot (Impreza WRC) 3'16"5
7 Amourette (DS3 R3) 3'42"9
8 Bayard (Corolla WRC) 3'47"9
9 Nantet (997 GT2) 3'48"2
10 Beaubelique (Fiesta TR5) 3'49"9
11 Martel (207 S2000) 4'10"7
12 Lefebvre (208 R2) 4'10"8
13 Rouillard (997 Cup) 4'15"6
14 Martin (208 R2) 4'20"4
15 Simpson (Fabia S2000) 4'43"0
...

In 208 Lefebvre is leading at home. But Martin is well. Most impressive is maybe Camilli, 4th for his first event with 208, after only one year with DS3 R1 :) between Cherain and Dubert.
In Opel Cup, Romain Fostier is leading, but Pierre Marché who made is comeback is there. Young Florian Bernardi is fighting with Antoine Masse and Jean Jouines for third place. Bonato had trouble but is still there.

Been to le Touquet today. Seen 4 stages (which wasn't so easy to manage this time). Seen some nice action. Great drive from Maurin, it's impressive how much he improved over the years. Gilbert was driving very well for a debut with a proper WRC. It looks like Brunson was struggling to learn the car. But towards the last stages he became clearly faster. Concerning one-make cups in France I think the competition level dropped a bit this year, comparing to the last few seasons. Looks like some drivers moved on to another level or are out of fundings...

Jukka Korhonen was very impressive for me, very fast and spectacular (maybe a bit too spectacular). Although for being a driver from the North, his driving style is quite clean (except for the video below), I'm hoping to see more from him this year. :)

Been to Rallye Terre des Causses last week. Amazing event! Very nice stages, and a great competition over there. In the "top-class" the amount of entries wasn't bad, but what made us go there was the presence of the 208 Cup and the DS3 Trophy, and the fact that it is a proper gravel rally (in Belgium we don't have proper gravel rallies). The competition level in the cups (especially 208 cup this year and last year) is extremely high, if you can win there, you must have the potential to win on international level as well. Very nice drive from our Belgian Cedric Cherain. I hope he continues in the trophy (it's not completely sure since he's doing a Belgian campaign with Fiesta R5 too now). @Jeppe: very nice progression from Jaro Kinnunen! Shame I didn't have time to bring a visit in the service park, I'll try to meet next time.

great fight in France Tarmac Champ for Rallye Lyon Charbonnières.
Cuoq was leading by 25" on Baud, but he lose time during the 9th stage. During the same stage, Salanon, who is doing his comeback, did a great job and passed Baud. So he is now leading. Four guys are fighting for victory.

Classification after one day and half :
1 Salanon (Fiesta WRC)
2 Baud (Fiesta WRC) 5"
3 Trojani (C4 WRC) 29"
4 Cuoq (C4 WRC) 37"
5 Marty (Mini WRC) 50"
6 Roche (Mini WRC) 1'01
7 Rousset (C4 WRC) 1'55
8 Nantet (996 GT2) 2'28
9 Blaser (307 WRC) 3'17
10 Martel (207 S2000) 3'21
...

Nantet easily lead amator champ, Ragues the ELMS champion is 2nd.
In Opel Cup, Jouines is leading by 15" on Perry and BErnardi. Official Opel driver Kreim is at 40" in 6th place.
In french junior champ, great fight btw Gabriel Lieffroy and Damien Defert.

In how many countries do they have an Opel Adam Cup? Can't say I'm surprised there isn't one here in UK....

Interesting to see Pierre Ragues in a Fabia S2000, rather than at Silverstone.

Nantet in front of all S2000&R5 ?? That must be a crazy ride with 911.....

@AndyRAC : it's an Opel Adam Cup with Cup cars, not R2. Second year here. Germany of course has one, and I think Czech and Belgium (or Switzerland ?) should have one too this year.

@Ucci : no top driver with S2000 in fact. But yes, crazy ride by Nantet. I forgot to say that he is no more driving the powerful GT+ Porsche, but a classic GT10 Porsche. GT+ come from track cars, and GT10 from classic road cars.

So finally victory for Salanon :) Baud had to retire, so we find 2 C4 on the podium. Great drive by Marty, fourth for his first time with a WRC. It's even a long time ago he didn't drive a 4WD car (Monte 2010). Last year he finished 5th in Opel Cup.
Easy win for Nantet in amator champ, whereas Jouines wins in Opel Cup.
France Junior round for Yohann Rossel, new Rallye Jeune FFSA, so it was his second rally. He beats Lieffroy, for his third year in R1, who has a bit more experience that Lieffroy.

1 Salanon (Fiesta WRC)
2 Cuoq (C4 WRC) 31"
3 Trojani (C4 WRC) 40"

13 Bect (207 S2000) 8'21
14 Saunier (Clio Williams) 8'22
15 Carret (DS3 R3) 8'32

Trophée Michelin :

2 Philippon 1'31
3 Raynal 1'59
4 Beaubelique 2'50
5 Bect 3'30
...

Opel Adam Cup :

Is Maurin saving money for WRC-2?

vino_93
20th April 2014, 09:44
Maurin plans were to do WRC-2 + some events in France (Touquet, 2 other on tarmac + one on gravel).
So yes for the moment, he saves money for this. Bu after two retirements, even if his pace was correct in Portugal, I don't know if he will continue or not.

mousti

I think with his improvement in pace, I think he should better do some ERC events, he would be very fast in Ypres, way faster than last time..

tommeke_B
8th May 2014, 11:11
It's not just the lack of fundings. Brunson (and others) have already complained about the French calendar. Except for le Touquet, all events are in the Southern part of France. Closest event from le Touquet is 650km south (Limousin). Rallye du Var has the biggest travel-distance (more than 1100km) from le Touquet. As driver from North, it's very hard to get a project such as the French championship sold to your sponsors. In fact, apart from that one event (Le Touquet), all Belgian events are closer than French, for him. So no wonder he was considering taking part of the Belgian championship last year...

vino_93
8th May 2014, 14:14
It's link to money. It costs more to travel to South of France. It's more difficult to find sponsors for events so far from them ...

But for the moment, the first reason is that he can't finance himself, and he planned to attract new sponsors with his new car, but it didn't work. Fault of the championship, fault of bad economic situation ...

Next year a D2 championship will be created. I hope it will be good placed in France, with races in the North and West, where nothing happened now. Whereas there is really great french cup events.

giù tutto!

This guy is really good ... too bad there is no opportunity to do an international carrier with Opel.

Cuoq logicaly leading. These roads are in favour of 2.0L cars instead of new WRC's. But let's wait, Limousin is a difficult race.
Other surprising result is the one of Camilli. Leading Peugeot Cup, by 1" on Lefebvre. Really good.

vino_93
10th May 2014, 09:37
In the afternoon, extraordinary times of Maurin. He came back on Cuoq, and is now leading by a confortable margin of 16" on him. Salanon (Fiesta), Roche (Mini) and Rousset (C4) are still at the same place. Bonato were a bit in trouble, but a fantastic time on the 4th stage keep him 6th. Beaubelique is 7th and leads the Amator Trophy.
Camilli improve the gap with Lefebvre in Peugeot Cup, whereas Berfa is 3rd.
JOuines lost time in Opel, and let the lead to Bernardi. Marché is second.

vino_93
10th May 2014, 16:32
More difficulties for Bonato today. He lost time and now is far away. Unfortunately he didn't achieve a Top ten, but that was incredible to see him so highly classified.
Maurin easily wins the rally. He controls Cuoq, whereas Salanon was totally out of the game. But it's a new podium for him. Roché is still 4th, and Rousset 5th.

After a great fight, Rouillard finished 6th and wins the Michel Trophy, ahead of Beaubelique and Guigou, who wins the N group.

1 Maurin (Fiesta WRC)
2 Cuoq (C4 WRC) 30"
3 Salanon (Fiesta WRC) 2'26
4 Roché (Mini WRC) 3'37
5 Rousset (C4 WRC) 5'43
6 Rouillard (Porsche 997 Cup) 6'46
7 Beaubelique (Fiesta R5) 6'55
8 Guigou (Mégane RS) 7'16
9 Martel (207 S2000) 7'39
10 Hot (Impreza N15) 8'00

Camilli wins the Peugeot Trophy. Great drive for the Rallye Jeune 2013 - who had a small experience in 2008 where he drove three in Peugeot Trophy, without finishing events, then he did a Suzuki Swift Cup round, and retire. He came back last year by winning the Rallye Jeune selection, he achieved a great drive with his DS3 R1, and finished 6th and 10th in Cévennes and Var a DS3 R3.
