Error in pacenotes can occur even if you are leading the rally or you are the slowest car on the event. Such a things just happen sometimes.

But... look... if You are leading a competiton by more than 5 minutes, there is no reason to make any mistake either by the driver or by the co-driver. This is kind of a dumb and stupit behavior. It only shows, that RK is driving far above his own abilities. If I was a renter of rallycars I wouln´t give him anything but a ticket to drive home.
By winning a rally in a way he has shown before the accident, it could have been a calling card for next years jobs... but now he will be unemployed.
You could have started here on forum by more clever post...
In fact crashing happens very often when crew just cruise leading. It's very difficult phase of any race/rally for concentration. Besides rallying I follow closely also Moto GP where numerous times Casey Stoner or last time Jorge Lorenzo crashed in safe lead. Especially if it was a mistake from co-drivers side than it has nothing to do with skills of Robert. Mistakes happen and everyone makes them, even Daniel Elena made a few.

Not very clever post, is it?
RK has allready shown what his capabilities are, he's just assesing his speed and looking for the limits of the car and himself. A win in a national event is irrelevant if you're leading it by more than 5 min. This is not his playground, that's for sure.
I think ERC would be his best option for next year, and after that the next logical step.

And what happened to Nantet on the last stage??
Most imporant that Robert and a codriver are unhurt. Wish him luck and hope strong, that this accident will not have any effect for his 2013 plans.
My congrats also to R.Dumas (again one circuit racer), with 996 model, which dates back in the late 90', to be so so fast against modern cars, well, you must be a good driver....

After accident Robert has said: "Emanuele put me in error thats why the accident happened. I'm a little mad at him because victory was near. Most important, that nothing had happened. My future I see on the track, but the decision will be taken at the end of the year. I can only say that my priority is Formula 1. I greet and thank all the fans."
Codriver has accidentaly changed two pages and told him left 5 but it was left 3. Because of that he goes into the corner 40-50 km/h faster than should.

Super 2000 World Rally Champion Craig Breen has finished in third position at Rallye du Var, France.
Breen went into the final day of the season-ended race in sixth but only trailed Charles Zuccarelli (5th) by 38 seconds.
The Waterford man had reduced the deficit to just 11.1 seconds after this morning’s first stage before race leader Robert Kubica crashed out in the penultimate stage.
On the final 32km stage, Breen pulled out all the stops and with his second fastest stage time in succession managed to overhaul a 35-second deficit over Gillies Nantet to claim 3rd overall and cap an unbelievable drive.
Speaking after the race, Breen said: "I’m really delighted, this has been a hectic rally and I’m thrilled to finish third and get on the podium. We knew this morning that fourth was possible, so we decided to for it. I’m sorry for Robert (Kubica); he had a great drive all weekend."
He added: “At one point yesterday I was down in 20th position but apart from the punctures I’ve been really happy with my speed.
"Setting fastest time on stage 11 this morning was great and then on the final stage we still had to push and it worked, it’s been a fantastic rally. I want to thank all the Sainteloc team, the 207 (Peugeot) has been great.
"I’ve really enjoyed my time all year with the team and have learned a huge amount. It’s ideal to finish the year here in France. I began the season just up the road on the Monte (Rallye Monte Carlo) in January and Rallye du Var bookends another big season for me.”

Just saw an interview with Kubica after the rally. He confirmed that it was a mistake from his co-driver. Kubica said, that a rally crew always consists of two persons. He made many mistakes in the past and his co-driver was a victim of those mistakes. This time it was the other way around and he had to pay for the mistake of his co-driver.
Even though Kubica didn't finish, I'm still happy. The rally was won by Cedric Robert, one of my favourite drivers. Congratulations!

Have gravel sections been used in Rallye du Var in the past?
There were 2 parts with some 100m of gravel in one stage. The asphalt was just gone there, I don't know why. In that big part of the stage the asphalt was completely destroyed everywhere, with big holes everywhere, very easy to get punctures there. Sometimes big pieces of asphalt just flew away when cars passed by...

@Dimvii:
Difficult event to drive. You have one corner just after another, constantly, the tricky places are not so obvious as in other events I think. Also there is quite some variation, for example Vidauban begins with 15km full of holes, bumpy road, even a bit of gravel, and then another 15km of catalunya-like road but just more narrow and more corners. The set-up is always a compromise and you can't always have it perfect. It's in the mountains but not going up and down that much, they are more following the mountains, no big altitude-differences during the stages.
About the DS3-drivers I would say Consani and Chardonnet were clearly the best drivers, but both had bad luck... Arzeno and Gilbert were announced as "big names" in the beginning of the season already, but without some luck they wouldn't have been 1 and 2, both were driving too brutal, using the handbrake too much, their lines were not so good in fact. Kevin Demaerschalk impressed me a lot too, it was his first time in Rallye du Var (others did the rally several times before), first time with a new codriver (and a changed pace-note system). He was quick and very clean ( quite late in and out in a more straight line etc, really good lines for long asphalt stages), pitty he lost 2min8s because of a puncture (which was really a matter of luck on those stages with big holes even in straight lines, and big holes you could not avoid). I believe Kevin is one of the guys to watch if he continues in the DS3 trophy next year, hopefully with Fred Miclotte again. :)
In the Twingo R2 cup Salinas, Guigou and Clutier were the guys to watch of course. I think the Twingo is quite close to the 208, really hard to say which is better (also because only Bouffier was driving a 208). In general I would say the 208 looked a bit more stable, about engine etc it's impossible to tell a real difference in Rallye du Var where the road turns constantly it's more difficult to tell than in another rally. I think a 208 would be better in more flat events (like Belgian events, Germany, Touquet in Northern France etc.).
For the rest Kubica was really nice, perfect lines and really fast, even if Freddy would've been driving with a C4 I think Kubica would've been faster. I'm not surprised he crashed. I think he didn't give anything about the victory, he just wanted to learn and gain experience, and you don't learn when cruising... Freddy Loix was rather disappointing, always looked like he was hesitating a bit what to do, didn't look confident. Breen was surprisingly quick, I didn't expect him to beat Robert in speed so quickly, if he can be so fast in Rallye du Var he can be fast on tarmac everywhere, no doubt about that. Another nice surprise was Zucarelli, with an old 206 WRC, the car was extremely low and soft, the outside of the front bumper always reached the ground in corners, and the car was slightly understeering, but apparently it worked and he was setting nice stage-times, and it was nice to see. :) Maurin was a bit of a disappointment, it looks like he's becoming te French Matthew Wilson (but with more mistakes), to put it roughly... Then the GT's, they're not real rallycars but very nice to see and hear, and they are so fast (especially Dumas and Nantet)... :)

Berenguer was official driver for Citroen in the beginning of 2000's ! So for sure a good contender for Cuoq.

So it must be this car:

well, you forget to talk about Rallye des Côtes Fleuries, in Normandy. Big events too with Brunson, Barbara, Knapick, Lemonnier, Alemany, Martel and Robert :) I was there for the first time, instead of Route du Nord, and it was  best crews pushed a lot, it was beautiful to see ! Barbara isn't in his place in the Mini ... it was complicated for him. Brunson is Brunson, and Robert  But I think the most impressive were Lemonnier with his Evo X R4, and Martel with 207 S2000. Chauffray did really good drive too with his small Saxo, as his opponent in A6, Margely :p No regret for me to be there instead of Route du Nord.

Back from a nice Rallye le Touquet. There were some good battles between the drivers, pitty that so many had to retire... Some nice surprises, like Charles Martin who competed with a Peugeot 208 R2 for the first time, and was quite close to Robert and Lefebvre, before those 2 retired. Also I had a lot of fun watching the Twingo R1's, the cars aren't the fastest, but they are giving it all, it's just great to see!

I have to underline the extraordinary race done by Axel Garcia in Junior Championship ! Only 4 rallies in his life, first time here, without any experience from these roads and these conditions ... and he finished 2nd in Junior champ, with good times, and reliability ! Compared to Bernardi who is doing is 3rd year ... Nice victory for Defert too, who is doing his 2nd year.

This week end in France :
Only on "National" Rally, Le Pays du Gier. Part of the Switzerland championship. As usual since 2009 it's again a swiss victory, and the third time consecutively a top three ! Grégoire Hotz won quite easilly in front of Carron and Althaus. First French is Monnet with his 207 S2000, 4th.
eWRC-results.com - results Rallye National du Pays du Gier 2013 (http://www.ewrc-results.com/final.php?e=8094)
Then 3 "Régional" rallies.
Too were quite interesting. First of all, the Rallye Draguignan made its comeback. There was at the start Arzeno with a 207 S2000 (Pitstop). Against him another S2000 (Desidelli, Drakko Sport). Some interesting crews in 2WD : Magnou (206 S1600) and Audirac (DS3 R3). It was not so easy for Arzeno who faces some difficulties against Magnou and Desidelli, but at the end he won, behind Magnou and Desidelli, for his first run in S2000.
eWRC-results.com - results Rallye Rgional Draguignan-Verdon 2013 (http://www.ewrc-results.com/final.php?e=9436&t=Rallye-Regional-Draguignan-Verdon-2013)
Other interesting Régional was Les Vins du Gard. Nicolas Bernadi was back in rally with the Fiesta S2000 of Maurin (he is Maurin's coach). Nicolas Liron with the ex-Macek Corolla finally didn't start, the car isn't ready. Against Bernardi, no one ... Salinas, winner of Twingo R2 trophy, started with Mégane, and made a good race. But it was impossible for him to fight against Bernardi's Fiesta. It's Daiel Nicolas with Clio R3 who finshed third, but there was a nice fight btw him, Janel (C2 S1600), Antherieux (Clio R3) and Masclaux (Clio Maxi).
eWRC-results.com - results Rallye Rgional des Vins du Gard 2013 (http://www.ewrc-results.com/final.php?e=9365&t=Rallye-Regional-des-Vins-du-Gard-2013)
And the last was the Rallye 24 Dordogne Périgord. Some good drivers but nothing extraordinary. Anthony Mora with his 318 Compact won quite easilly in front of Lerosier (Escort), and Robineau (Mégane RS) who took advantage of the retirement of Maurat (Golf KC).
eWRC-results.com - results Rallye Rgional 24 Dordogne Prigord 2013 (http://www.ewrc-results.com/final.php?e=9418)
For those who don't know, National are most important rallies in French Cup, with coeff 3, 4 or 5. WRC are allowed (and GT+ too, but it's link with french championship participation), and in some rallies, you can come from another country. The Régional's are the less important, coeff 1 and 2. They are shorter than National's, and WRC aren't allowed. And of course, it costs less.
Next week there will be Rallye d'Epernay, very important race in North part of France !

A fantastic entry for the french 208 Cup(19 crews) :bounce:
Note Belgian Cédric Chérain among them ;)
My ultra favourite is Noël Tron(the fastest young driver on french gravel to my mind)
Do you know the pilots who do the full cup? :)

Add Dubert, Martin, Millet.
So many good (mostly young) drivers in France.
I don't know if they have the experience on gravel...
Abbring is a contender, for sure! Any one who can beat him will probably win (or be very close)

Nice addition but not a real contender for the championship... ;) About the 208 Cup, at the moment, the best way to be seen by manufacturers is joining a cup/trophy like that... Cuoq didn't dominate the event and was slower than Baud's whale on te two first stages, before taking the lead after SS3(21km long) :D
Chieusse and Jacquot are following already with big margin behind...

Diogo Gago, just started racing 3 years ago! First year he got ups and downs, won the last race in the Fastbravo (Seat Marbella) trophee! In 2011 was the man to beat in the Fastbravos, won 4 out of 5 events in tarmac (his favorite surface) and 2 out of 4 in gravel! Last year he switch to the Modelstand Cup and dominate like no other the Championship! 6 wins out of 7 events(2nd in the one he didn't win), but only 6 goes to the classification so he score top points all year long! He finish 1st in the 2RM category and 2nd in the Junior behind a guy that drives a Lancer Evo VI Gr.A. In the last rally in his hometown he drove a C2 R2Max to 2nd overall in the stormy, foggy and rain conditions!
I know all this because we started racing the same year (i'm a codriver) and allways on the same cups! Really nice guy, and very fast, due to his mental strengh! In Portugal recces are free, you do as much as passes you want, but Diogo only passes twice like in WRC even if he knowed that he was learning less the stage than other guys! Trust the co-driver that is one of the best here, and the notes!
Hope you're enjoying see him go, I know I am, and believe that he will be faster next times out (he only tested friday night a few km)
Cheers

She has sweet demeanor and girl-next-door appearance, but that's not how they're going to remember her. Can you believe that? In her video she even sucked her tampon, in the process, she also seemed too awfull and discomfortable. She had to suck it cleanly with the aid of a glass of water.

Cuoq seems to have found the right rythm today, after first stage of the day he takes the overall lead of the rally, in front of Maurin who is now second and Brunson in third. ;)

Good for Maurin. I'm starting to like French championship more and more. Also every evening resume of the rally, including cups. Well done ffsa, FIA can learn from that!

I see Cuoq is in the lead now.
Cherain not doing bad, only Abbring is in front of him with 50sec in the same car.

I guess the 4th time of Demaerschalck is an error?

Don't think so..
Looked at the times of the other stages, you must be right. Fabulous time from him then!!! Wonder what he encountered on ss2 where he lost 13 mins?

Some electrical problem for Abbring on SS10, car was running on 3 cylinders some times. He stopped and lost 20 seconds. SS11 went better, still in the lead. Service now.
A shame that Maurin had a puncture, the battle for the overall lead is over now.

Chérain is setting amazing times also, coming close to Abbring now. Also great performance by DeMaerschalck but he lost a lot of time with an off on stage 2.

oh for sure no, FIA don't have to take our championship in example.
First of all, look at the repartition of the rallies in France ... well, it's a joke. On 9 rounds, you have only 1 in the North (Le Touquet), and the 8 other are in the South East part of France. Limousin is a bit in the Center, but for the rest ... when a new round has to be chosen, they choose Mâcon, which is very closed to Lyon, whereas there are beautiful races in all part of the country, as in La Rochelle.
And for sure the calendar could be better organized geographically speaking, because beautiful races are not all in South East. Using coeff 5 rallies in French Cup to do a rotation, and it could be perfect, including all parts of France.
In a second way, there is some stupid coefficients. On 9 rounds, two are coeff 1. WHy Coeff 1 ? Because the organizers aren't in good term with FFSA. :) The Rallye Lyon Charbonnière had coeff 1, but he has the best entry list for the moment in French Champ, and is one of the favourite rally of all drivers...
Then, we can talk about the way to do the classification. I have no problem with point for classes. It's good for drivers who can't afford big cars. But ... it is done by the most stupid way. When in a class there is less than 3 drivers involved, points are divided by two (logic, it's easiest to win your class when you are alone), except if you are in the Top 10 of the rally. As you know, a driver has to registered to take point in championship.
But ... to know how many cars there is in a rally, FFSA counts all cars taking part to the event - and not only the one who subscribed for the championship.
So since the beginning of the year, Gatti is taking all points in A7 category as he is the only one from this category, and other drivers entered races, but aren't registered.
So he has 30 pts, and will have 20 more this week end ... and you can have a guy in another category, alone too, but with only 2 times less points than him, because there wasn't other cars starting the rally outside of the championship ...
Then, subscribe to the championship ... is that logic ? Amateur drivers have to paid, and it costs a lot for them. Instead of running less and less km, maybe delete this would attract more amateur drivers.
So yes our championship is quite good, he has nice trophies, good drivers, etc etc ... but there is a lot of things to change.

I think Cherain made a mistake of had a flat tire on the penultimate stage and with that losing the 2nd place on the final stage to Lefebvre :(
