Is the prize award for the 208 cup again a program with the 208 t16 in the ERC?

vino_93
7th September 2015, 13:34
It's not exactly writen like this. The winner, if he is less than 28, wins a "program with a 208 T16 to Peugeot Sport colours".
And, there's a junior price too. The contenders are less than 23. The must finish between 2nd and 5th place overall, and 5 drivers must compete during the year. It's a "program with a 208 R2 to Peugeot Sport colours".

If the winner is more than 28, he wins a race with an official 208 T16 for a race in french championship (gravel or tarmac).

But even without the price, I'm quite Suarez will do ERC next year. He is entered by Peugeot España (as Lopez), and I'm quite sure they aren't doing this just for the fun.

For the moment, Suarez is leading. He is almost champion.

There's a bigh fight for the junior title.
Jordan Berfa is 2nd overall, 1st junior with 37.
Then we have belgian de Mévius with 25 (6th), Monaco's Riberi with 21 (8) and spanish Lopez with 18 (10). (same point system as in WRC)
All can change ...

Entry list for the Finale of French Cup : http://finalesdesrallyes2015.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Liste-des-engag%C3%A9s-modernes-avec-N%C2%B0-de-course-et-horaires-de-convocation.pdf

Only 145, which is quite low for a finale (around 170-190 usually). It's due to the location, in the North. It costs too much for the guys with small cars from the South.

But there's quality with top contenders. A lot of guys can win ... Morin (Fiesta R5), Pustelnik (208 T16), Longépé (208 T16), Beaubelique (Fiesta R5), Puppo (Fabia S2000), Pruvot (Fabia S2000), Galpin (207 S2000), Mortier (Impreza GT), Deraedt (Celica GT-Four), or even Vanson (Lancer Evo VIII) ... It's open !

If you are from Belgium, UK, Netherlands, ... and you want to travel and discover it, that will never be so closed ! :)
It's in Samer, close to Boulogne sur Mer. Something like 50 km south of Calais and 100 km west to Lille (Rijsel :) )

That's mixed.
You have some good drivers, who can do well in the tarmac championship (like Galpin, Longépé, Pustelnik, ...).

You can see some young guns at the beginning of their career. I remember Gilbert did it with a Clio RS.

And some aren't really good ... they just have the money to run a lot of French cup events to qualify ... or they are smart enough to drive in a category where there's not a lot of opponents to take points :)

Coming to see the finale too, only on saturday. I was at the finale in Dunkerque in 2009, but it was quite disappointing (mostly due to the stages)... Hoping for better this year, the list looks good. :)

vino_93
8th October 2015, 14:02
Stages will be different. Dunkerque looked more like typical flanders road.
Samer is more like Normandy. Some stages were used by Le Touquet a long time ago. There's some hills. That's quite unique in Nord Pas de Calais.
But maybe it will be difficult to spectate due to the hedges between the fields. I need to study maps :p

Currently is running the Final de la Coupe de France des rallyes, the traditionnal event that gathered all the "best" drivers during the french rallies season ;)

This year the Finale is running in northern France(Pas-de-Calais, in the city of Samer) :)
Weather terrible(rainy, muddy, slippery)...lots of drivers on the retirements list since yesterday evening friday :s

First unlucky driver was also favourite for the win: Bruno Longépé(208 T16)crashed and had a puncture on SS1, apparently too much damage to the car to continue ;(

For now after SS5 Dominique Rebout and Jérôme Galpin are leading in their 207 S2000s, but Jean-Charles Beaubelique is only 11" off behind the leader and three stages remain ;)

vino_93
18th October 2015, 17:00
Haha, terrible conditions yes. Fortunately I didn't drown :p

Quite nice stages, but mixed experience. My first pass was nice, with terrible conditions - gravel roads with some ruts. We could see the guys who attacked and the others ...
Then a 90 corner with S corners after, with mud in the S. A lot of 2WD were too cautious, quite disappointing, probably due to the rain.
And finally, I saw a stage more or less without rain. Fast corners on a way down from an hill, with a 90 corners ending it. Here you saw why most of them where here, much more attack.

The rally ended with drama, as Rebout (leader) and Beaubelique (3rd) retired during the last stage ! So Galpin won :) But he had mechanical problems, and there was a lot of suspens if he was able - or not - to come back to Samer !

vino_93
30th October 2015, 11:30
Rallye du Var always has a good entry list. But for this year ... I don't know. Cuoq could be titled this week end, so he won't go to the Var. Maurin will do Vaucluse (gravel), so he won't go to the Var too. Expected "top" entries are Salanon (Fiesta WRC), Brunson (Fiesta WRC), Roché (Mini WRC), Magnou (206 WRC), Bonato (208 T16), ...

You can follow entries there : http://www.var-rallye.fr/

Jean-René Perry, official Opel France driver had a huge crash in Cévennes this friday morning in the SS1(he rolled above the roads in the trees)...impressive
Fortuneately he and his codriver Joshua Reibel are unhurt(except Perry suffers a little to his back and has been carried to hospital for a check) :mark:

Watch that very quick video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_DorXaqMQs

SS1 has been interrupted and most of the drivers will get notional time...

Also SS2 saw a huge crash from a driver of a BMW F2000 and has been interrupted too :mark:

And another crash on the current SS5 in Cévennes(Fred Raynal who was leading the trophée Michelin in his Fiesta R5 and was 2nd overall) :mark:

Stage interrupted again, the lateness of this leg will be huge this evening :(
Fortuneately only the car disturbs the road, no harm to the crew...

Good question :) Also does anybody know what problem Loix had on the last stage? It was an awesome battle with Gilbert all the time until the last stage where Loix lost a lot of time.

1. Salanon (Fiesta WRC) 2:19:5,6
2. Gilbert (DS3 R5) +1:39,8
3. Roche (Mini WRC) + 1:42,0
4. Loix (Fabia R5) +2:01,0
5. Amourette (DS3 R5) +2:50,6
6. Michel (207 S2000) +3:34,9
7. Leandri (208 T16 R5) +4:51,6
8. Hirschi (208 T16 R5) +5:29,2
9. Raoux (Fabia R5) +7:26,7
10. Guigou (Clio R3T) +8:09,1

This young man Sylvain Michel seems pretty fast with the Peugot S2000...If he hadn't lost 1 min in the night stage would be very close with everybody.....Anything about him ???

He is a high-rated young guy. One of the most promising now.
He has 24, and is from the Alps.
He started in 2011 in french cup with a C2 GT with some good results. Then he went to Switzerland and did some good drive with a C2 R2. He was the winner of R2 in Valais 2012.
In 2013 he drove the Citroën Racing Trophy Switzerland and won it.

In 2014 he did JWRC round in Portugal, but that was his first gravel event. He had some troubles, but shows some good times on some stages. He progress a lot all the week end.
He had nothing precise to do this year ... but finally Nantet helped him, and he drove his old Porsche (GT10). He was quite fast with it, but had mechanical troubles. As he did good job with yhe Porsche, he was nominated for the "Espoir Echappement", an autosport contest to elect the most promising frenchman of the year - but he wasn't elected.

This year he did a few more events with the Porsche, and then swith to a 207 S2000. He finished 5th in Antibes, but fought for the podium. He crashed in Rouergue, and so was here in Var.

I think he should focus on one-make cup ... in order to win an official drive at least for one year. Because I can't see what he is doing. Driving Porsche is fine, but that's not this way you could launch an international career.

Brunson had brake problems, Loix spun.

Didn't expect such a pace from Gilbert! And Bonato, this guy really deserves a good program, although he is too old now to really get a career. Maybe he could do ERC or at least French Championship with a top car.

Probably because there are several WRC machines in France needing to be rented and a lot of teams not wanting to get burned with cars stuck in the shop.

Ok, but 1.6WRC could be converted to RRC and the old 2.0 cars could still be allowed in french regional series. Maybe they'll change something in 2017 as WRC cars will get even more expensive.

vino_93

That will probably change in 2017, to focus on R5. There's a lot of talks about it.
But now that there's less and less top WRC drivers to do the whole champ, I think the WRC cars will be banned from the tarmac championship (no reason to ban it from gravel and cup).

First tarmac champ entry list - Le Touquet : http://www.ewrc-results.com/startlist.php?e=28134&t=Rallye-Le-Touquet-Pas-de-Calais-2016

Quite disappointing. It's usually better there.
No local guys with top WRC machine - except Stievenart, whereas there's a lot there. And a few guys are able to do well with it, as Bayard and Pruvot.

Brunson and Salanon will fight for win.
R5 has quality, but finally not so many starters. Let's see what Michel can do. He should beat Mauffrey, Tanghe and Ragues, but it will be his first race with the Skoda.

And a nice surprise with a good field in DS3 R3 cup.

It will be too first race of new French Historic Rally Championship, with Delecour starting.

It will be too first race of new French Historic Rally Championship, with Delecour starting.
http://www.ewrc-results.com/startlist.php?e=30020&t=Rallye-Le-Touquet-Paris-Plage-VHC-2016

I think (and hope) Tanghe will beat Michel.
Very good entrylist in DS3 R3 cup, previous years this cup was in the shadow of the 208 cup.

I' not so sure about Tanghe ... but Touquet is one of his favorite events. He is already fast there. So maybe he can do it, as Michel comes from the mountains. But for me, Michel is top national class driver. Still young, coming from cups, with the possibility to do an international carrier. As Tanghe is a very good but only gentleman driver.

As expected, WRC’s are leading Rallye du Touquet ahead a pack of R5’s. Brunson leads 21s ahead of Salanon in an identical Fiesta WRC. Sylvain (Fabia) is in flying mode, dominating R5 field and beating Roche (Mini WRC) for 3rd overall. Roulliard in a restricted 3.8 911 is far away, fighting with last R5’s guys.

Like usual, fine coverage from http://www.rallye-sport.fr/es16-touquet-2016/

Final results:

1. Brunson (Fiesta WRC) 1:46:40,4
2. Salanon (Fiesta WRC) +21,1
3. Michel (Fabia R5) +30,9
4. Roche (Mini WRC) +46,6
5. Tanghe (Fiesta R5) +3:20,2
6. Ragues (DS3 R5) +5:07,5
7. Mauffrey (208 T16 R5) +5:27,5
8. Rouillard (911 GT3) +5:42,2
9. Raynal (Fiesta R5) +5:53,0
10. Rossel (DS3 R3T) +6:10,4

Very impressive debut from Michel indeed! Other R5 drivers were nowhere close to him. In the end he won 6 out of 18 stages against the WRC drivers.

With WRC's running on RRC's specs (but with 30mm restrictor) french championship would be amazing.

I think WRC will be banned from main championship for next year. Running second division and gravel onyl.
Or they will be able to run the event, but without taking points - you know, why do it easy ... politics story to follow this year.

So, amazing Michel, nice to see him so strong. It will be nice battle with Bonato all the season :)
Other great race has been done by Rossel, dominating Citroën Cup. Don't know if he will do JWRC this year, or only focus on CRT.
CRTJ has been won by Loïc Astier, a guy with a lot of experience (4th season).

Current owners would, for sure. The initial investment it's already made and running cost must be very similar as they are more reliable than R5's.

The 30mm restrictor proved to be a good way to match RRC's and R5 speed. It's a mystery why FIA imposed the 28mm.

Mirek
19th March 2016, 22:05
No, the running cost of RRC cars is approximately double to R5. R5 aren't more expensive to run than S2000 (in some cases they are even cheaper - Fiesta R5 compared to Fiesta S2000). You can check M-Sport website, service intervals and prices shall be available there. Some prices for WRC/RRC cars are ridiculously high. If I remember standard engine rebuild for Fabia S2000 was 11 thousand Euro but for Mini WRC/RRC it was nearly 30 thousand and Fiesta wasn't much cheaper.

Rally Power
19th March 2016, 22:18
Double seems to be a bit exaggerate. RRC's parts are for sure more expensive but you won't have to replace them so frequently as on R5's. It's amazing to see how often R5 top teams replace their cars for new ones, while RRC's teams use them for several seasons.

Mirek
19th March 2016, 22:23
I believe it's more than double but maybe somebody has some real data available. Anyway if I remember Fiesta WRC parts had very short service intervals, for gearbox it used to be only 400 km (it was before last evolution).

I was told by a man running several Fiesta R5 and before several Fabias S2000 here in CZ that the running costs are circa same. Afaik normally it was around 100 Euro/km. I can't imagine how You can push WRC car under 200 Euro. Some very old WRC cars for sure yes but modern ones?

The announced R5's service intervals look like a rally myth. From what I've heard, R5 winning teams tend to use shorter intervals to prevent R5 reliability issues.

Back to the French championship: why ban WRC's if they can continue to be competitive in 30mm RRC's specs? Why should a Fiesta or a Mini WRC owner have to sell his car at an unfair price (outlawed cars are always hugely depreciated) just because there's a rally monopoly that obliges everyone to get a R5?

Take Italy case. If 30mm RRC’s would be allowed at CIR the series would be much stronger and run CIWRC alongside CIR would become redundant. Having different series for different rally classes isn’t the way to promote national rallying, especially when it’s not that difficult to put all classes together in a competitive way.

Probably that has been FFSA major fault: being unable to get a proper BOP in order to match all top rally classes allowed at CFR.

I don't speak about theoretic stuff. I wrote the experience from real team doing real rallies (even winning some international ones).

Some of my pics from Epernay (first round of D2 championship). First time I went there ... just amazing ! My pics aren't that good to tell this, because I wasn't really well placed to take it - and I'm not a top photographer ... but that was amazing to spectate. You can see the cars running of very long distance thanks to hills.
The roads are quite strange, very slippery and bumpy in the vineyards. That's not like in Germany. Here it's a kind of yellow roads with gravel inside, and what is interesting it's that these roads aren't flat - I guess to drain away water. + there's metal gate on the roads, for water too. That creates some jumps. + there's hills, who can be very very sloped.

Sébastien Loeb Racing was here ... and Loeb too, in his helicopter. I think he may be happy, as yesterday Giordano - Rebout were 1-2. Unfortunately Folb was in rally 2 -mechanical trouble in front of me, but he did well therefore, easily leading 2WD. But it seems this morning Giordano had troubles. Rebout is now leading, Bayard with his old Corolla is 2nd and Giordano 3rd.

And for my portuguese friends : look at classification, and you will understand why I said Pereira is slow.

So, a few pics ...

So as espected, the first day shows a great fight between Salanon and Brunson for the lead. Then Trojani, Bonato, Michel and even Roché were there for the podium.

But during day 2, a lot of things changed. Whereas Bonato was amazingly fast, and coming back on Salanon, he went off. So Salanon was quite alone, as Brunson doesn't seem to be as fast to overpass him. But on SS12, Brunson came back by 16" ! But on last stage, he had a puncture, and lost his 2nd place to Michel, who did the best result of the week end.

1 Salanon (Fiesta WRC)
2 Michel (Fabia R5) 54"
3 Brunson (Fiesta WRC) 1'12

Maybe they don't need to be banned, at least the 1.6T cars. They can run in RRC specs (with 30mm restrictor) and still be competitive, helping to provide a more diversified field. And current owners wouldn't be forced to sell their car at unfair prices.

Also a lot of Belgian drivers, but I think they will suffer a bit as the stages are not like anything in Belgium. But Tanghe and Casier might finish in the top 10 and Debock (Van Parijs is the name he uses in Belgium) might be 2nd fastest GT (behind Rouillard)

It will be interesting to see where the Belgians will finish in the cups. Wagner and De Mevius have already proven to be quite fast, Wagemans and certainly De Ridder lack experience in the 208 Cup. Radoux in DS3 cup discovers that type of roads so will not be very fast.

Rallye terre de Langres, third event of the french gravel championship and third event of the Peugeot 208 Rally Cup this saturday afternoon ;)

http://www.brennusinfo.fr/

PS: Julien Maurin in his Skoda Fabia R5 won the previous event(Diois)in front of favourite Jean-Marie Cuoq(Citroën C4 WRC)but Matthieu Margaillan(also driving a Skoda R5)was by far the most impressive, unfortuneately hampered by an off or a puncture...

Let's see the action in Langres

Great field of R5, times are changing here.
It will be a nice battle between Michel (now officialy french champion), Bonato on his own roads, and Gilbert. I guess Baud with the Fiesta WRC could fight for victory too. Let's see what can do outsiders, even if I don't think that Tanghe (BEL) or Carron and Ballinarri (SWI) could do something for the victory.
About outsiders, there's the comeback of Daniel Barry. He did a few IRC events in 2010 with his Lancer Evo. Here he is with a 207 S2000.

After first day, Bonato leaded by only 2" on Michel ! Gherardi (WRC) is third at 27", and Gilbert 4th at 30". Then there is a fight for 5th between Baud (48") and Roché (54").

What is strange about that?

It’s a bit strange to have a champion without a single rally win and a point system that allows class leaders to score more points than overall winners (http://www.ewrc-results.com/season.php?s=2016&nat=6).

Despite this, no doubt Michel is one of the fastest and more consistent guys around. Congrats to him, his codriver and team.

vino_93
8th September 2016, 19:31
That was clear since the beginning of the season. If a class had less than 6 (i think that was 6 ?), then class points were half cut. So of course, the WRC guys weren't happy ... but they start knowing there will never be 6 guys in their category. Of course, finally they leave the championship.

I don't agree with FFSA who choose this system. To be honest, that would have be fair to ban WRC to take point - or to let them one last year.

Sebastien Loeb has concretized a wish that he has been pursuing for some time: to line up at the start of a race at the wheel of the Peugeot 306 Maxi. Now the official driver of the Lion brand, the world champion of the rallies took advantage of the roads of the Rallye de Haute Provence to compete in the famous Kit-Car that had shone in the 90s with Gilles Panizzi and François Delecour.
On this appointment where he was co-driver by his wife Séverine, the Alsatian won on arrival, but admits not having had the easy part.
"The objective of this weekend was above all to have fun, and we can say that it is successful," recalls Loeb. The stages resembled what can be found on a Monte Carlo or a Var, with a good level of grip, on bumpy, fast and somewhat wide roads. It's typically the kind of profile where it's nice to drive a kit-car.
It was all the more fun because Eric Fanguiaire, the regional of the stage, gave us a good contrast with his Ford Fiesta WRC. We had to tear ourselves to be in front! It was in the sixth special of Esparron that we managed to make a difference: it was technical, with very fast portions downhill and I think I really rode well. "
Used to four-wheel drive since the Xsara WRC, Sébastien Loeb has found the steering of a two-wheel drive after making a few preparatory rounds. "Originally, I was not sure what to expect as to the performance level of the car. In the end, she is really healthy to fly, and goes great in the fast!
It is obviously necessary to type in, and to open trajectories to go for traction, but it is in no way vicious. I gradually managed to be finer in my driving, unless saturate the front end.
It is also that with my team, we fine-tuned the settings to erase the understeer which was suffering a bit at the beginning of the rally. In other words, I am particularly pleased with my new acquisition and I am already looking forward to relocating to my car. "
Find the report of the Rallye de Haute-Provence in the AUTOhebdo n ° 2106, available this evening in digital version and from this Wednesday in kiosks.

That's the best french championship since sooo long. Good to see so many young - or not so young now :) - talented drivers having R5. Now we have :
- Yoann Bonato (34 y/o) : former Citroën & Opel official drivers, winner of Swift Cup & Adam Cup
- Vincent Dubert (24 y/o) : winner of Citroën Trophy 2015
- Fabiano Lo Fiego (37 y/o) : two times third of Citroën Challenge (2005 & 2006)
- Quentin Giordano (30 y/o) : top contender of various french trophies, podiums in JWRC, one podium in WRC2
- Charles Martin (28 y/o) : winner of Twingo Trophy 2012, winner of 208 Racing Cup 2014, official Peugeot driver in ERC 2015, winner of Clio Trophy 2016
- Yohan Rossel (22 y/o) : winner of french junior champ in 2014, winner of CRT 2016
- Jérémi Ancian (33 y/o) : winner of Suzuki Cup 2009, winner of Peugeot cup 2012, official Peugeot driver in ERC 2013, then Nothing
- Bruno Riberi (25 y/o) : some good results in Peugeot Cup (5th in 2015)

+ some good gentlemen (Roché, Mauffrey, Gal, ...)

The 30+ drivers never had the opportunity to drive good 4WD cars, even when it was S2000 time. Now they are here. That's great.

Entry List for Lyon-Charbonnières:http://www.asarhone.com/site/pdf.php?f=fichiers/charbo/2017/liste_des_engages_modernes.pdf

Friday there are 5 stages (2x2 stages + SSS) and on saturday another 8 (2x4 stages).
Stages are fast and mostly wide, although some parts are a bit Barum (bumpy broken tarmac with gravel, fast and in a forest). When wet, there are some very slippery black patches on the tarmac. Stages for the brave drivers, I think the leading 208s will be high up in the general classification again!.

And 5 GT cars :)

Good to see Charles Martin and Jeremi Ancian still in action. They were both Peugeot Rally Academy drivers in the ERC a few years ago, if memory serves me...

By the way ... can you tell why Robert Consani nearly stopped rallying? I saw at ewrc-results.com he did some few small rallies in 2016, none till now in 2017. Lack of budget?

Despite the tragic SS3 accident, Lyon Charbo Rally continued and eventually was won by Salanon WRC Fiesta. A puncture took Bonato chances of victory and despite a strong comeback he wasn’t able to recover P2 from Rossel on the other R5 DS3. Efren Larena, spain’s new talent, won 208 Cup ahead of Pellier and Magnout. http://www.rallye-sport.fr/es13-lyon-charbo-2017/

He started in circuit racing and, apparently, he’s back to it. https://pt-pt.facebook.com/robert.consani/

Shocking news from France! Anthony Puppo won Rallye d'Antibes in his first ever rally in the French championship! Until now Puppo was only competing in Coupe de France (second league championship), but decided to have a try at the highest level and won! Many people say that Yoann Bonato, Quentin Giordano and Charles Martin are one of the most talented drivers in France, but it was the unknown Puppo, who beat them all! Congratulations!!! :)

Final results and some videos can be found here:

Little side mark, Puppo was born and lives on the Antibes stages. But still, very strong result!

Interesting, what is the level of the French championship these days? Will he have as good, or better competition as he had in Italy?

Less direct competition than in Italy. A couple of drivers still using WRC cars, with fastest R5 drivers trying to reach them. Bonato (DS3R5) is the benchmark for Paddon.

I think there are no WRC cars in this rally, so all top drivers have equal chances:

That looks more like overzealous use of the hydraulic handbrake to me? Mind you, could be interesting in a 4WD if he drove like that then too.
