brake problems on third stage for Abbring

dimviii
26th November 2010, 18:43
Ogier has been rather disappointing for me as has Abbring. Kubica is on league of his own. Now in proper competition he shows what class he is!

Also Italian drivers with r3 clios very big differences with their French mates.

yes, youre right. for ogier theres maybe the excuse that the car isnt so fast on tarmac by now, but abbring is really slow! and tirabassi is also a little too slow, especially on stage 3 he had lost a lot of time.

Besttime for Tiribassi, who is taking 15 sec out of Robert's lead. Let's see if he can continu this pace, then he might be dangerous for Cedric Robert. Kubica again continuing at same pace as yesterday, doing great stagetimes. Guigou is 1 sec faster as Ogier in R3. ;)

Waoooouuuu such time of Kubica again in stage 5!!!! Guigou still front Ogier...

Ogier is going very fast on this last stage, beating Guigou quite heavily and coming back untill only 0.5 sec adrift overall.

On Morzine Meeke had brake fade problems on the downhill sections in the DS3 and still the same problems with Ogier. Would imagine Ogier is under pressure to beat Guigou.

What cartype is supposed to be fastest:
S1600, R3, R3T.
They are pretty even on the charts, but hard to tell how much is driver and how much is car, since I know little of the French national drivers!

OldF
27th November 2010, 13:02
I think the S1600 would be the fastest with 230-240 PS and 1000 kg weight (If I remember right). The second fastest would IMO be R3. The Honda has 250 PS @ 8300 rpm / 264 PS @ 8800 rpm and the Renault has 230 PS. The Citroen R3T has “only” 210 PS and the same weight as R3 cars, 1080 kg.

If you take in to account nm, then the picture is in R3T favour, instead of R3 and S1600 beeing the fastest, isn`t it?

OldF

They’re then faster to get more power from the engine than updating their web page. :)

That's quite questionable. We would need dyno chart and gearing to compare both engines exactly. It's sure that DS3 must have larger power bent but if it really has only 210 Hp maximum, than it hardly can match 250 Hp by some 120 Nm more torque (don't forget that it must have much longer gears due to rather short rpm range - torque is transformed by gears, so power is the only comparable number). Anyway I don't believe press numbers enough to make comparison based on them :)

By the way 1080 kg is for R3C, not R3T. AFAIK R3T has 1120 kg minimum.

urabus-denoS2000

R3T = 1080 kg, R3D = 1150 kg. Just checked it.

A little disadvantage group R cars has on tarmac is that ground clearance can’t be lower than stated on the homologation form.

Yes, it is true, but most of the time he allways makes a mistake somewhere.Bouffier is also driving in another context, i am not saying that he is just cruising trough, but i guess he has big safety margin and is only interested in the French title. ;)

Ucci
27th November 2010, 15:53
After eight specials nothing new, it seems that Tirabassi has to much troubles with his Impreza, so Robert has a safe advantage for the last day.But all this is nothing compare to shocked stage times achived by F1 boy-Kubica!!
I must admit that I as a great fan of Ogier (also a successor of Loeb) am deeply disappointed of his driving capabilities and that he is not abble to at least keep the contact with Kubica, let alone be faster than Kubica! Do not forget-Ogier was two years ago JWRC champion!! And Kubica two years ago maybe did not even know how to start the engine of the rally car....
Ogier is simply losing 0,5 to 1 second/km of the stage. Far too much...And do not doubt about the cars-definitely is a brand new DS3R3T faster than privat, almost ten years old S1600 rally car. Think yust on the chassis, suspensions&traction-how big is the development every year and Clio's homologation had last changes in the year 2005....
Also big disappointment Italians crews in the R3 class....

OldF
27th November 2010, 16:32

The horsepowers are still live and kicking although 10 years old. ;)

Mirek
27th November 2010, 16:38
Also R3 car has smaller brakes and it's suspension is stock-based compared to special wide one in S1600.

But it's true that Clio S1600 is rather old car (it's homologation ends next year - hopefully they make it lasting longer).

OldF
27th November 2010, 17:10
That’s true. By comparing these two homologation sheets one can see that there’s considerable difference in the wishbones and subframes.

Citroën C2 Max:
http://www.piecescitroensport.citroen.com/NR/rdonlyres/F681BC11-9445-44B2-A4E3-706834B932BC/224239/28_02_VR2Bcopy.pdf (pages 27-30)

Citroën S1600:
http://www.piecescitroensport.citroen.com/NR/rdonlyres/F681BC11-9445-44B2-A4E3-706834B932BC/225221/06_01_KScopy.pdf (pages 15-16)

Note the exotic rear axle of S1600.

I also believe that one difference between R2 and R3 are the wishbones. At least Honda has a similar front wishbone as S1600 as an option.

Clio too. If I'm not mistaken stock Clio R.S. has the "Performance Hub" front axle but R3 has normal McPherson. Renault Perofmance Hub is very similar to Ford RS Revo Knuckle with independent steering on McPherson-like strut.

Kubica drove occasional rallies in Poland much years ago :)

br21
27th November 2010, 17:48
in my opinion biggest advantage of Clio S1600 over Clio R3 is the brakes. Then weight, wider suspension, lower ride height... But of course Kubica is great driver.
Remember when he was driving Clio R3 last year he wasn't that fast, there were also some braking issues. I think S1600 suits him perfectly as it's proper tarmac car, as close to racing car as a rally car could be. Plus watch his style, he's using tires in 100%, he checks tires temp, pressure before and after every stage, and analyzes this data, he's doing it since he was 8 years old, so he's got some experience :)

also with the accident of Campana Abbring should be the guy who wins Clio R3 European Trophy tomorow

Bartek
27th November 2010, 19:32
i think the biggest advantage is Kubica :) he is very fast, if he start in the same class like Kimi he beat him without problems!

Go RK ! :)

Why Bouffier don't have got 307 WRC? In Polish they writed he will start 307 WRC.

Ucci
27th November 2010, 21:42
I entirely agree and respect your opinions about technical specifications over S1600&R3&R3T classes, and I also know that RK is a damn fast and an all round driver, but my dear friends, do not forget with whom we are comparing him: Mr.Ogier!! He is the unwritten successor of irrecplaceable Sebastian Loeb!! One of the three, maybe four fastest drivers in the world rallying-we are not talking here about one local, fast driver, who has a good day and some luck.
It is the same comparison as Kimi would beat Loeb&Co after few rallies for a minute or two...can you imagine that???
Kubica did already humiliate the drivers with 2WD in Italy, but still we can not compare Albertini&Gamba&Cempedelli&Ferrari&Campana with Ogier, therefore I did not expect on the French soil to be even close to Ogier, let alone to be in front of him.....
Enough theory-pure fact is that Kubica is breaking rules and yust a small wish-what would happen if he someday gets a proper WRC for a race or two...??
So tomorrow Ogier try to be faster than Kubica at least on one stage....

fegh
28th November 2010, 06:49
what a time from kubica in the first stage today !!! amazing

Francis44
28th November 2010, 06:49
Ucci, I think that's an unfair judgement of both Ogier and Kubica performances.
First off all we have the cars. The Clio S1600 has years of development and data to use, plus it's much more of an tarmac oriented rally car.
The DS3 is, in my opinion, too high from the ground to make it fast, in the recent videos you can clearly see on corners the car bounces quite a bit, and
if im not mistaken is Ogier first time in the car.

René
28th November 2010, 07:07
First time for Ogier with DS3 R3 and first time in the Var rally

DS3 R3 still needs development, and it would be possible to compare the performances of the pilots that on the length of a championship. It being what accomplishes Kubica is really an amazing performance....

Indeed, but Lietaer prefers to do rallies in and around his own region. That is nothing new, from the last 10 years only in 2009 he did all the rallies of the Belgian championship.

Haco i d like to measure meganeN4 outside France with an also good driver in a evo10/9 or sti n16.Today in France the drivers with evo9 and subis are no near in level as Guigu.Factory car against privateers with not good drivers are not going to show us the right results.

It-s just the first rally . Remember you comments in a month or two , and then see it the comments are still okay . People at Renault Sport are geniuses , they didn't make a single rally car in recent history which failed in any view , performance or sales . I agree , it's probably very boring , but it for sure won't be slow ;)

dimviii
18th March 2011, 20:37
the point is if a megane can be competitive against a traditional n4 evo-sti.All local championships have rallies with some snow, some mud, some rain, some dirty/slippery roads. If you were a driver will you choose a megane against a 4wd if your aims are at championship title in your class?
Of course renault-sport is a legend in rallies and all their cars were excellent against competition. But 2wd against 4wd in difficult conditions needs a miracle nowadays.
lets wait to see megan against a proper evo-sti with a good driver in some months and we will see.I just was waiting more against ds3/clios at Touquet

N.O.T
18th March 2011, 21:37
The megane was made more like a promotion of the road car rather than serious competition.....the fact they gave it to their advertisment driver shows that. None will risk buying this car outside of France, it is obvious and that hard to understand even if you started watch rallying 10 minutes ago.

Francis44
18th March 2011, 21:44
What did you expect?! It's a 2WD car, it's handicapped from the beginning, would you expect Renault to come in with a 2WD car and beat all Evos and Impreza which haven't had competition in their class all those years?! I hope this is just a way for Renault to gather data for a possible WRC programme.

HaCo
18th March 2011, 22:01
One is sold in Germany, that is outside of France ;)

Give the car a chance. If it's cheaper and faster than the Clio R3, some will be happy with it. If one day an R4 will come (4x4 or not), it will be even faster.

who are the drivers? and in which countries ?

urabus-denoS2000
18th March 2011, 22:46
Besides France ( Guigou and Consani ) there are Germany ( Carsten Mohe - presented his car today ) , Italy ( Stefano Albertini , Andrea Mezzogori ) and Switzerland ( Nicolas Maus )

N.O.T
18th March 2011, 23:18
so basically all of the renault promotional drivers in their respective countries....hmmmmm

18th March 2011, 23:20
Well , they are the first of course ;) I think the Megane will be a very good selling car . I mean , look at the 207 R3T . It's a catastrophic car , so slow and boring , and yet Italy and France are full of them .

Mirek
18th March 2011, 23:39
A lot of Méganes are going to be in IRC 2WD cup which is made simply for whatever with just two wheels driven.

Anyway I think that it will be quite reasonably cheaper to run than 4WD N4 and in south European asphalts (Touquet is not what I mean) it should be competitive enough in usual condition (by the way the Evo in front of Guigou is Gr.A, but of course Guigou should be better driver).

At rallye Pays du Gier(first leg yesterday with two night stages)swiss champion Grégoire Hotz dominated the S2000s in his Clio S1600
Ivan Ballinari was 2nd, Laurent Reuche(first time driving a 4WD)third...

Interesting times by the F2000s with Jerôme Chavanne 4th, Sébastien Bugnet 6th and Emeric Robert 11th... :)

Once again the Citroën DS3s are in front of the Renault Clios in GrR(Antonio Galli 9th, Michaël Burri 10th)

Tom206wrc
19th March 2011, 13:13
As expected, Ballinari and Reuche are first and second after SS5 Rallye Pays du Gier today ;)
Also Althaus is climbing back, but Hotz still gets a 33" advantage before being kicked from podium :p :

Official entrylist in seeded order for the Rallye terre des Causses is at last available :)

Two Skoda Octavia WRCs from the belgian BMA Racing entered with Bernard Munster and Alain Devezat at the wheels

With the absence of Jean-Marie Cuoq the battle for victory will be opened and unsure :D
Although his whale will be at the event, I don't think Paul Chieusse is from the same level as Cuoq... ;)

Stefaan Prinzie will also do some rallies in Terre Championship with a BMA Impreza 555

Nicolas Vouilloz would be expected on a 207 S2000 on next week's rallye Grasse Fleurs et Parfums...I thought he should be helped by Skoda France for a 2011 campaign with Fabia S2000

Let's see what he will do for Rallye Islas Canarias/IRC... :mark:

Abbring has the intention to drive the entire Gravel championship with the DS3.
First three rallies are sure for now. The car is run by Automecasolutions.

Tom206wrc

Germain Bonnefis, leader of the french Volant 207 ahead of Abbring finally :p :

Tom206wrc
2nd April 2011, 13:15
Incredible the jump forward the 207 R3T has done since last year
They are fully able to fight for top 2WD in R3 category now :)

In the DS3 clan, Abbring lost quite a lot on SS2 and gets now 17" to catch on rallycrossman Davy Jeanney :mark:
But first positions R3 are Bonnefis, Ancian, Blanc, Marché(all from Volant 207), Salin(first Clio R3 driver),...

Edit: overall leader is Laurent Carbonaro(Focus) ahead of Gascou(207 S2000)and Paul Chieusse(ex-Cuoq's whale, but he has to sweep the road for the others)...leading GrN is Hervé Guignard(4th)ahead of Finn Saku Verimaa(6th)...

MartijnS

The times of Abbring are wrong apparently, he called another Dutch driver that he's way faster than is visible on the websites above.

MartijnS

Tom206wrc

There is a good entry list for a regional rally next weekend, the 52. Rallye Grasse Fleurs et Parfums in Southern France. Romain Dumas (997 GT3), Nicolas Vouilloz (207 S2000) and Dominique de Meyer (307 WRC) are the favourites for the victory. There are also Michel Boetti (207 S2000), Jacques Seret (Mégane Maxi) and fast Group N driver Franck Lions (Lancer Evo 10).

This rally is also the second round for the French Renault Clio R3 Trophy. Belgian driver Kris Princen leads the Trophy after the first round in Le Touquet and his aim is to try to win this title this year. His main opponents in this rally should be Thomas Barral, Olivier Courtois and maybe the local drivers Philippe Barbero and Frédérique Papavero. There are also 2 new Group N Méganes with Jacques Brilli and Robert Consani.

Entry list: http://www.rallye-sport.fr/liste-engages-rallye-grasse-fleurs-et-parfums-2011/
