R1 don't have limited slip differential I think. That may be the reason.

Sulland
7th August 2012, 11:23
Correct, but they are running Twingo and Fiesta in the UK, and Fiesta in Norway sucsessfully. They run their own class or cup, so should not matter. It is an entryclass or a budgetclass LSM or not.

The Fiesta in Norway has been a huge succsess, both in speed and reliability. A lot of car for little money! A perfect juniorcup car imo!

7th August 2012, 18:56
R1's cars are allowed in french gravel rallys but he junior Championship takes place only on tarmac rallys so nobody buy a twingo or fiesta for these rallys. An old 205 or 206 is less expensive and faster so... It's nearly the same in French amateur cup...

R.I.P. Philippe, you were a great person, not only as a rallydriver but also as a human being, always smiling and ready for a good joke, but also serious if it was necessary. What a great loss. My condolences to your family and friends.

Just can't wait for next week :bounce:

I'll strongly support Keith Cronin, I'm sure he can show us fantastic performance on french gravel, especially on an unknown event for all the participants(so knowledge and experience shouldn't be so useful) ;)

Rallye terre de Lozère - day 2 - first loop of stages:

Germain Bonnefis can't be worried for the victory if mechanical parts hold until the end...
A battle is engaged for the 2nd place between Noël Tron(leader of GrN)and Paul Chieusse(in the good ol whale a certain Marcus Grönholm used to drive :D )separated by 3"5...

Battle in the Citroën Trophy is absolutely CRAZY, and four drivers can fight for the win again
Quentin Gilbert is now leading a certain gap of 12"...but only 2" separate Stéphane Consani, Jean-Sébastien Vigion and Keith Cronin for the gain of 2nd position

The last loop of the rally looks promising :bounce:

Tom206wrc

First, an interesting statement from Cronin after the rallye de Lozère: he WANTS to run the two last events of the french Citroën trophy(Cardabelles and Var) ;)
For the Cardabelles, being on gravel, he will face the same "recce problem" as in Lozère(as mentionned Tommeke)but in the Var, despite his lack of knowledge of the rally, he can get a very good result... :)

Not so bad Harry Hunt for a debut in S2000: 17th overall after SS3, just in front of Jean-Matthieu Léandri in same car(even if Léandri is more a gentleman driver and lacks of experience in Mont-Blanc) ;)

great performace from arzeno and gilbert in the ds3´s! some time ago i heard people saying gilbert is the new loeb...now he´s almost as fast as arzeno on asphalt, while gravel is his more familiar surface. it seems a bit more now that there might be something true in it. because i consider arzeno as a pretty fast asphalt dirver.

Yes, Gilbert is getting very fast on asphalt too. I saw that in Ieper. He just makes some mistakes from time to time. But he's learning.
I've been following French gravel and asphalt championship for years, and I must say the number of up and coming drivers is tremendous.
Arzeno, Gilbert, Dubert, Chardonnet,...
They are set to be one of the dominant nation in the WRC for another decade with Ogier and co...

Yeah, good word to use (inspired). All original stages in RBR incorporate some certain small details, like on Joux Plane (Mont Blanc) those wooden "rails" (3:36 e.g.), GB stages have bridges exactly like real Pirelli Rally (without wooden fences though), Hokkaido had some water drainage grills going across the road (these could be seen on real onboards few years back), etc. RBR, released 2004, still going strong. :)

Well Bouffier and Robert both went off on same place in stage 7. Bouffier lost a wheel and Robert had puncture, but continued on rim (front right) and made it to the finish of the stage, loosing about 2,5 minutes. He then retired on roadsection to stage 8. Both Arzeno and Gilbert hit problems on stage 8, i sawzeno coming true to the end of the stage but he lost a considerable amounbt of time on that stage. Gilbert never came out of the stage, but i don't know if he went off or not.

It's common in France that websites look like they are made by a 8-year old kid... Anyway the level of organisation in France is very high, in general! :)

I was personally only on Monte Carlo and just as a spectator but what I can say is that something like spectator safety doesn't exist there (except just few places with very strict rules). Usually it's like in the 80'...

I'm from Picardy (North of France). I was near to Nice some years ago for some hollidays, and go to see Rallye de l'Escarène (with the Col du Turini for example in stages). I was very shocked by the lack of security there ... compare to what I see in my region, it's incredible ! People seemed to be crazy ... crossed the road with baby when a car arrive, placed in dangerous corners ... and nothing is done to change it ! Wheras in North all is controlled, you can't go where you want, there's lot of security measures ... it's very different from where you are in France.

Rallye du Var is known that one of the worst in franch championship in terms of organization.
Rallye Le Touquet is one of the best especially for safety but some french drivers don't like the muddy conditions at this rally.
Rallye Mont Blanc is really appreciated by drivers because of the roads.

As every year in France, there's the Finale de la Coupe de France des rallyes(french rallies cup final), and the 2012 edition takes place in Gap(southern)next week ;)

No idea about entrylist yet
For reminding, last year edition was a very fantastic duel between David Salanon(winner in his 306 Maxi)and Gilles Nantet(in BMW F2000 rather than his Porsche) ;)

Will not be the same level as last year, but it's always nice event. Lot of drivers doesn't to go to Gap, South East is difficult for drivers from North and West ... but that's always the same story. But this time it seems that Gap isn't very attractive ...

vino_93
13th October 2012, 09:23
always the same story :) It's always nice event, even if some local good drivers are missing ... but the place for the final is a bit strange since Dunkerque ... Hasparren, South West, very close to Spain. Gap, South East, very close to Italy, and Oyonnax ... close to Gap !
In 2011 it was Autun ... East side too, but well placed for drivers from South or Noth. And before it was change from each side of France year by year.

In don't understand why Oyonnax for 2013 ... very close to Autun and Gap ... why not going to West, to Center ? The finale has not to be only in the East side of France ...

CRAZY time by Thomas Privé on SS1 Rallye terre des Cardabelles !!!
5th fastest overall in his DS3 R3T, more than 10" faster than other drivers of the Citroën Racing Trophy...only 12" slower than leader Manu Gascou in his S2000 during the 20km long stage
Privé is an excellent young driver on gravel, indeed, but it's only his third outing in the Citroën ;)

He was French Gravel Champion in 2008 :) he won two rallies in 2008 (Diois and Vaucluse), had a difficult 2009 year ... he tried to do some international events but could only do Portugal. He did two 2nd place in French Gravel on 3 events. But from this time to now, he never did a complete championship... some events in France Tarmac in 2010, and this year a comeback on gravel, with 2WD cars ;)

that will be exiting and will show kubica´s real speed. if he can keep up with loix his speed is quite ok i would say. if he´s a bit faster then his speed is about like loix´s speed. and if he give´s him minutes on the stages he´s extremely fast :D

i think that fits in the case "a bit faster = same speed like loix" with a tendence to "give´s him minutes = extremely fast" ;)

I am quite surprised by Kubica and his right arm. (and not only today) He nearly can´t move with his right arm (that is fact) , so he is driving from 90% only one-handed. It is quite "tiresome" but I don´t see him being tired, exhausted during later stages. He is still excellent. Constantly.

What is the asessment for the recovery? Will the arm get better with time and training, or will it stay as it is now?

right ....starts not wins..
If you judge the driver by his wins in WRC than almost every driver is slow. Yes, that's true that he had more chances to win wrc round than other drivers but he still is the fastest rival so far and is much, much more experienced.
I'm impressed, even considering worse car of Loix (but he has better knowledge of it).
That's a pity Couq and Sarazzin are not there.

I too was trying to find a list of Kubica's rally starts to see his earlier opponents as my memory could fail, but really, isn't Loix in an old 307 still Kubica's best speed measure yet? Loix' car might be rusty (I don't know), but for sure Fast Freddy himself is still a good measure in European rallying. We all remember how surpised we were of Kubica's speed prior to his serious, unfortunate accident. His talents obviously hasn't gone anywhere. I so wish he'd do ERC or selected rounds of WRC next year. I don't know how good he was in F1, but he surely is a natural born rally driver.

Kubica was one of the biggest talents in F1, but unfortunatley he had no sponsor walking with a bag full of cash. So he was forced to prove everything by himself. He is a natural born talent, I have no doubt about that.
I hope he will do ERC next season (and will test on gravel a lot). S2000 car can aslo be modifed like Kubica's wrc - look at Llovera's Punto.

Yep.. something like that.. I also had to take into account the fact that some cars in WRC may use non-control tires and some of them have to use those. At the end of day.. to be with similar speed copared to Mads in a second rally with his new car.. impressive indeed.

Loix was after the TTE shutdown one of the best development drivers on the market who could also handle the WRC competition. Also the 307 was never a good story for Freddy, remember those times especially with Provera.. Also this year with the 307 he got not so much luck with it. But anyways hats off for Kubica, like I said balls to the wall with him, he is a competition beast knew that after the accident when he only look in front of him and not behind him. Long story short:

RK: It is my longest rally. longer was monte carlo but i did only the recce there.
i know the rally a bit, but most of the SS this year are in the opposite way.. so i know maybe about 25km from the last time i've been here.

i will not try to catch freddy as he lives here and will be fast. i'll try to drive my own rally.

new for me are bad road conditions (-> holes in the road, mud) and a lot of cuts where you can get a puncture.

Reporter: how do you feel in long stages?

RK: well, i'm doing well. i did last time a SS which had about 30km and the feeling was great. i personally like such long stages.
i still have some problems with my brake style - like finding the right brake points. it's difficult to what i know from my racing starts.

Reporter: Any news about your future?

RK: No, not really. I still don't know what i will do next year. i can only say that the time is running very fast. the last 3 months were running very fast for me.
not like the last nearly 2 years after my accident where my life was very different. so i'm just happy now to do what i like to do.

Just look under your x-mas tree. Maybe you'll find there the news about me and what i'll do next year ;)

Looks to me there are 2 roads, with a small field between it with some trees in it, in East Belgian Rally we have that too, but one of the roads is not written in road book and has ribbons to "block" the road. Kubica is also choosing the outer road without using handbrake then.

But... look... if You are leading a competiton by more than 5 minutes, there is no reason to make any mistake either by the driver or by the co-driver. This is kind of a dumb and stupit behavior. It only shows, that RK is driving far above his own abilities. If I was a renter of rallycars I wouln´t give him anything but a ticket to drive home.
By winning a rally in a way he has shown before the accident, it could have been a calling card for next years jobs... but now he will be unemployed.
