Bouffier only fourth after SS4, not as good as I expected. Go Bryan!
I'm wondering... Does it give any pleasure to Tsjoen to win rallies only by having a better car than all others?

Unfortunately yes. With all the money of his uncle, in my opinion he could better drive a whole season in IRC with a S2000 car.
The British driver Sebastian Ling is really a class of his own in the Group N and is at this moment 3rd overall, even ahead of all the S2000's.

Just wondering - what is the total amount of kms for this Rally?
Seeing as our BRC start next weekend, and it's 'only' 80m (128km) over 1 day.

21st March 2010, 08:49
The total number of Kms is 231,15, devided in to three days of rallying. The rally started on friday with 43,25 Kms of competitive stages. On saturday they have the big part with 145,99 Kms and today, sunday there are 41,91 Kms of stages. Hope this answers your question? ;)

Neuville is doing another great performance in Touquet. On the opening stage of today he realised the second best time overall and jumps to fourth overall.
Tsjoen is really in control of this rally, leading by almost six minutes from another Belgian driver, Claudie Tanghe in his old Toyota Celica. :)

It is Sakari (Saku) Vierimaa, a Finnish driver who won in 1987 the Finnish Rally Championship with a Mazda 323 4WD. He was born on 11 April 1956. His best WRC result was 12th in the Lombard RAC Rally in 1988. He took twice a podium in the ADMV Pneumant Rallye (3rd in 2000 and 2nd in 2002) and was 4th in the ADMV Lausitz Rally 2004, counting for the German Rally Championship. He did of course Rally Finland (best result there: 19th in 1984 with an Opel Ascona) and Arctic Lapland Rally (best result there: 2nd in 1995 with Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4) many times and retired in the Rajd Polski 2005 with a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The reason was that he was out of fuel in that rally.

That should be a very easy victory for Tsjoen again as there is no other topdriver in a WRC. It was indeed better for him and for people who follow the rally on internet to drive with the S2000 here with Bouffier and Robert in a same car. Strange that the Clio's R3, except of Guigou, are so far on the entry list.
What is the French tarmac champion of last year, Guillaume Canivenq, doing Tom? Do you know his program?
Surprising that there will be a Greek team. :)

I agree Tom. Tsjoen is strange. I will never understand what is the fun and sense of driving a better car than anyone else and cruising to the finish line.
Because the Belgian Championship still allows top WRC's, his uncle bought this WRC few years ago. You find it more logic to keep it in the garage and not use it because the competition finds it too expensive?
Btw he will start in Ypres with a pug 207, so he doesn't avoid challenges. The reason why he starts in French championship was also to find new challenges. In the past there were nice 307's and Subaru's in France, but it isn't his fault they do not want (or can) drive it.
You can only blame the regulations than blame Tsjoen. And as far as cruising is concerned: it probably looks a lot more easy than it really is. Like his biggest rival Snijers says: only a good car is not enough (he talks about Tsjoen not about himself LOL ;) ).
Btw, at the finish the third Ronde de Vassivières, he shares the lead with Bouffier :)

Tsjoen could drive with the Focus WRC'05. Than we could have very nice battles for the lead with Snijers and van Eldik in the Belgian championship. If Tsjoen wins than again, it should be much more nice victories and people could say that he won also due to talent. Now he has by far the best car and the biggest budget. I don't understand why he didn't want to drive IRC rallies except Ypres with a S2000 car as he has the budget.

I wouldn't bash him. It's his choice and he can drive whatever he is allowed.
But anyway when I was in belgium I was quite surprised to see almost no interest in Tsjoen in service park compared to crowds following Loix or Snijers...

Mirek: Loix and Snijers are much more popular than Tsjoen, that is true. Tsjoen drives almost never spectacular while Loix and for sure Snijers drives much more spectacular. ;)
urabus: If you had the budget to drive a lot of IRC rounds, some other nice European rallies and your biggest national championship round in the same year, I am almost sure you want to try this and not to drive for the 10th time a full national championship with almost always the same rallies. ;)

It sounds like there was some direct fight but although it may look like that from times the reason why they were equal two stages before the accident was that Tsjoen had a puncture on some previous stage. Otherwise he was much faster than Bouffier (which is understandable).

Well, like I said before. They have bought the car, he could better use it than leave it in the garage. And for why he doesn't drive IRC, because he finds himselfe a gentleman driver, not a pro, which is a pitty, because I think he has great talents.
Still it is due to the rules that big money wins from lower budget.

Wow! I'm very happy! I'm not sure if you saw it already or not, but Bryan Bouffier managed to win this rally! Excellent job Bryan! Tsjoen went off the road when he was trying to catch the sympathetic Frenchman. Cedric Robert was second.

And for why he doesn't drive IRC, because he finds himselfe a gentleman driver, not a pro, which is a pitty, because I think he has great talents.
Well, judging from the events that Tsjoen chooses and the car he drives, he is a typical gentleman driver. Which is very sad, because in my opinion, he had papers to achieve much much more in this sport. I still remember his great win over Gregoire de Mevius in 2001 Ypres Rally. At that time I thought Tsjoen will become another great Belgian driver in ERC or even WRC. I heard that he had plans to compete in European Championship in 2004 in the same team with Bruno Thiry (http://rallyonline.pl:84/ft.php?idg=504&pg_[go]=20). Unfortunately, it didn't work out. I think that since then, Tsjoen's career started to go downhill... :(

Hi Tom, looks like another great rally like last year. Meeke out again I see, this time in the DS3.
No guarantee that Tsjoen will win this year.
As Cédric Robert is in the 207 S2000, Tsjoen's main rival at Mont-Blanc should be Dany Snobeck(Mont-Blanc is his favourite event and at Lyon-Charbonnière he was often faster than the Belgian so I have less doubt about the victory of a WHALE, and not a FOCUS this year :p : )
Of course everything can happen on such rally  we cannot exclude a victory of Pieter Tsjoen if he's more reliable than everyone else despite his lack of knowledge
Frédéric Comte and Pierre Roché will be also interesting to follow, but they'll have to discover their whale unlike the other "top drivers in WRC" :mark:

It would be a nice battle indeed but i think Ogier would be in front compare
to how Meeke won against Guigu...But anyhow Var counts for the
Italian and i think France R3 Cup so i think we will see very interesting

Has France, or will France adopt the new R-Class system in 2011 ?
vino_93
27th October 2010, 12:06
I don't know, and I think no. As you could see, the classification system in France is very detailed. So the old car, like 106, Saxo, ... will continue to drive in their respective category. But the new R4 cars, if their are particular cars for this category, will have a new category for them, it's sure if we see the classification system now.
In France, we have now :
R1
R2B
R3T
R3C
R3D (I'm not sure, there is not a lot of Punto :D )

I don't know for the B in R2 class, I will see what's it ;)
C --> R3 2000cm3. It's, I think, the official name of these cars (the Clio and the Civic)
T --> R3 1600cm3
D --> R3 Diesel :D (2000cm3 ? maybe ...)

There is no R2C isn't it ?
br21
27th October 2010, 14:04
to make it short:
the letters (A, B, C) describes engines capacity:
- A - to 1,4
- B - 1,4 to 1,6
- C - 1,6 to 2,0
the digits describe the range of modifications allowed (1 - min, 3 - max).
letter T means Turbo (DS3 R3 and 207RC), letter D means Diesel (Punto R3D)
vino_93, there is possibility in rules to build car according to R2C rules
Citroen C2R2 is R2B, Twino R2 is also R2B, (Twino R1 is R1B)
There are no big differences between R2 and R3, just weight, rim dimensions, etc.

I don't think so as group R is currently only homologation extension to group A. For example - Citroen C2 is homologated in group A under homologation number A-5672 and there are homologation extensions called "VR2B" (Variante Rallyes R2B). So there is no pure group R homologation so I think there is no list of group R homologated vehicles on FIA www, but I may be wrong :)
I know currently existing homologations:
Citroen C2 - R2B
Renault Twingo - R1B & R2B
Ford Fiesta - R2B
Renault Clio - R3C
Citroen DS3- R3T
Honda Civic - R3C
Peugeot 207RC - R3T
