Wondering if Citroen are willing to degrade Lefebvre to a DS3 in 2017 and sign Mikkelsen. Meeke, Mikkelsen and Breen would be a really good line up..

At the risk of upsetting the Gauls (already managed that this morning!) - not unless he changes his name to Andre-Michel Senn

Bartek

Not normal level of traffic - the tragedy had a lot to do with it. You are right in saying this rally is unpredictable, lots still to happen. Remember Bobby K in 2014.

Yeah, scrolled through that in the morning. Yesterday switched the stream on just in the moment of crash.
But this makes me eager to try to see RMC live next year.

you have to be patient for that, real season starts in mexico kid.

I find it funny how people are making conclusions about drivers after 3 stages of Monte Carlo in mixed conditions with new cars. Not to mention we've talked about driver choices for months on this forum. The downside is this thread gets drowned in "noise" by comments that would be better suited to a Facebook live feed.

Latvala and Sordo disappointing as much as Evans.

You mean those drivers sitting in 4th and 5th while several others are out of the rally?

Latvala said he has been driving on a setup too stiff for the conditions because of the starting problem they had to spend the time fixing instead of adjusting the suspension. Might be better in the second loop.

Sordo never seems very fast in mixed/inconsistent conditions, he is better when grip is more predictable.

4 of the new WRC cars already out of the rally or points by the end of SS5, if that rate of attrition continues it could mean that Breen or Mikklesen be on the podium.

Remote tazers might not be a bad idea either though...

I think FIA must close the stages for general public and crate Designated areas for them. For the rally fans, some kind of certification process should be established (testing mental and intellectual capabilities). Only certified people should be allowed to access the Special Stages. Control should be in place, and certified people banned if they don't comply. Agree, tasers and handcuffs is another good idea.

My guess is that they didn`t "give" him the car... They wanted Andreas to pay for drive.

Is Evans some kind of Malcolm/Gwyndaf friendship thing? It looks like father/son project in the past.

I still wonder about that... Is it really the tires? I doubt the Dmack are that bad. It is mid R5 field level performance.

most is tyres.Remember that dmack produced a new tyre for 2017 wrc cars, and they have to start from zero point again.

Not entirely realistic (says the guy who suggested to shoot stupid rally fans).

While I really enjoy that you can just turn up to RMC and spectate, maybe they should evaluate a system with rally passes and very strict marshalls that have the ability to cancel the rally pass of anyone that doesn't follow protocol. This situation has gone too far.

Mikkelsen is laughing his ass off in 7th place with an R5 between the 370hp WRC:)

Abbring should not be driving for a factory anymore. To much crashes not the talent we thought it would be.

The trouble is, places like Spain and Italy marshalls only understand 'strict' and have no conception in many cases of what the full range of effective marshalling involves - hell, they don't even use whistles as a warning for approach, preferring to use them in traffic cop mode for spectator control!!

Probably the guys that are now being harsh to Evans were the same that during ’15 and early ‘16 said Neuville was finished…give Evans a break, he got what it takes and did a pretty good job last year in WRC2 and BRC. On the demanding Irish stages he was as fast as Breen, despite using DMack’s.

Btw, after so many unpleasant posts on Makinen and his staff over the last months, it’d be nice to see now more people praising their fine work. Well done Tommi!

Despite all the posts about how irrelevant MC is for evaluating car and drivers at this point in time, we have seen enough to do some conclusions.
1. Ogier is fast and competitive with Ford as well. Something I didn't expect.
2. Toyota is fast enough to mix with the rest. Something I did expect.
3. Citroen and Hyundai have shown the speed to be on par with Ford and Toyota, or event better.

In short, I think we have 4 equally prepared and fast teams for 2017.

Think there are a few unfair posts about Evans seeing as this is his first year back in a properly quick car and clearly the DMack tyres aren't as good. He's previously proved that hes a quick driver with a number of good results (in a dog of a Fiesta), but he needs time in the car. It's took Andreas nearly years of driving a top car before he managed to get a win so I think it's right that he's given more than 5 stages on a tricky rally before people say he's s**t.

No conclusions...but...the Toyota has ability (although possibly from stage conditions/tyre advantage) to be on a similar pace, which I didn't really expect. The Hyundai can, on occasion at least, be very fast (which I definitely did expect).

However that's on the first morning of a pretty unique rally, could be completely different by the time we get to a gravel or proper tarmac event.

Deutschland Rally is even worse.
I have been to both and trust me, marshaling in Germany is 10 million times better. When people stand in stupid locations or does stupid stuff the marshals at least does something. When you buy the rally pass you get a big leaflet that explains in many languages where you're supposed to stand and where not to. They have clear no-go zones etc etc.

RMC by comparison has none of these things. People turn up drunk, marshals are on their phones, people kick no-go zone signs into the bushes and stand in place of them (or simply ignore them) etc etc.

The 0 car also have to be brave enough to stop the stage if people are stood in stupid locations. Maybe they should have a triple or quadruple 0 car that go through the stage slowly and actually stop and yell at people standing in stupid locations.

People who run in the stage while it is ongoing should get a permanent ban from spectating, the fucking end.

"Remember how Ott Tanak managed to say a lot without saying anything? His DMACK successor Evans is working on his own technique.

Analysing the stages, the time-loss is all coming in the snowy sections. The split times for SS5, for example, show the Welshman dropped a second in the first three miles and a mile in the last two miles – where the road was dry. In the middle, where the snow and ice remained, he dropped 20.

DMACK has brought a new winter tyre this event and the problem is thought to lie in the compound rather than with construction or stud-retention."
