Well as has been mentioned the Citroen drivers are saving the snow and studded tyres for the rally, so have used super softs for the SD. Not sure what the other teams have done, but clearly Ogier has used tyres more suited to the tricky conditions

It's not that much really - 4.2 seconds for 3.35 km stage makes it 1.25 secs per/km faster. With old wrc it was 1 sec/km I believe. But anyway there are various conditions here, so it is not real measurement.

Don't compare him with Wrc drivers. Compare him with wrc2 drivers. He was about 7,1 secs. faster than Camili on 3 kms. THAT is what has Mikkelsen done for such praise.

Enjoyable time at shakedown today, the new cars are definitely louder and you can really see the extra power as they launch out of the corners! The Hyundai's and Toyota's sound incredible!

Hanninen hit a wall in front of us while one of the R5 ds3s spun and had to be pushed back on.

Loads of police and marshals on such a short stage, they really weren't taking any crap either!

Tomorrow we recce a couple stages, before heading to stage 2 :D

Limited tyres per event means using the heaviest winter tyre in shakedown means that you can take fewer soft/dry tyres on the rest of the event, so you have fewer options and may be forced to use inappropriate tyres for stages later on, which according to Citroen (and bluuford) mostly won't be so wet and slushy.

Fair point. They never seem to let us hear the cars, just a continual drone of mostly inaccurate facts. For the live commentary, it's almost like they feel the need to talk, rather than let the rally tell its own story.

Detailed report about recce by a gravel crew yesterday, done at the times the stage will run this evening:

SS1 at 20h30:
+2 at the start, -2 at 2/3 of the stage, -3 at the finish
mostly dry apart from 500m at km11 and icy descent between km17 and 21
No need for studs according to him.

SS2 at 23h00:
-1 at the stat, +5 in the middle, +3 at the finish
mostly dry, some wet patches without ice in the first half, little bit ice from km18, few long section with ice between km19 and 21 that are tricky
