I only know that it's my wish to be true.
I think only Citroën, Hyundai and Toyota fans don't wish it too :)
If true, it would be a bit sad to have him at M-Sport for only one season. I'd understand if he wouldn't want to take the risk of binning more than one year if the car is not good, but I'd like to see a 2 year contract, as a minimum.
Maybe 1 + option (rational choice by the champ).

From Google Translate:
The references indicate that even Malcolm Wilson would not attend the Australian date to finalize all aspects related to the contract and prepare the logistics to immediately start the French tests.
They also have an article on Latvala to Toyota: http://www.rallynoticias.com/nivel2.php?id_noticia=11873
From Google Translate:
Within the framework of multiple references, the range of possibilities begins to be narrowed after the cancellation of VW activity in the WRC.
Today, with great force, the possibility is established for Tommi Makinen to fulfill his dream of presenting an all Finnish team.
In fact, the negotiations with Ogier seem to have failed, mainly because the economic option from MSport seems insurmountable.
In this way all signs mark the hiring of Jari Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi next to Juho Hanninen to start in January next season.
With 31 years, 10 world victories and a potential that can not be ignored, Latvala will look for the denied opportunity of a title at the highest level.

Ogier doesn't need the long-term security so much as he knows he'll be able to move again easily in 12 months time. A one-year deal seems perfectly logical. Could be further options to remain if Ford come back to the WRC. But this will allow Ogier to see which team has built the best car too.

I bet Paddon doesn't sleep well at night nowadays given Neuville's recent form.
I don't understand - I'm quite a big supporter of Paddon and I am also a fan of Neuville. Does the fact that they are not friends personally and the fact that it was because of Paddon that the public knows they aren't friends mean that he must think Neuville must do worse than him, or that his fans should wish Neuville to do badly? That sounds nuts. Especially since they are on the same team, but even if they weren't.

This would be logical for them to do if the story holds true. As long as Ogier is in the series in a competitive car to everyone else, I'm happy.

Well for sure it was clear from the very beginning that Paddon obviously couldn´t smell Neuville. It was starting from Paddon, Neuville always stayed calm about this.
I think you're reading a different script to everyone else.
My recollection is that, when he arrived at Hyundai, Paddon was respectful of both his team mates and looking forward to learning from them. It was only when he started showing them a clean pair of heels consistently and Neuville buckled under pressure that the trouble started, firstly by management pointing out the obvious and then with Neuville reacting poorly ... at one point even accusing Paddon of sabotage.
I think you'll find that fans of Paddon actually hold a great deal of admiration for Neuville and hope that both can work together to achieve the ultimate prize for the team.

too late for Kris according to these guys: Ogier would be confirmed on Monday as MSport pilot for a season... Note in http://www.rallynoticias.com
The most interesting part is this one:
“Ogier could claim a compensation from VW for financial loss and that option was settled giving a big help to MSport budget, as VW will pay Ogier next season salary.”
Problably that’s why it’s said this is only a one year deal.
The internet seems perfect to create or spread rumors…it’d be nice to see this one turning out to be true.

Latest rumours - dont know if its true - is that Toyota will not have Latvala or Mikkelsen because then they cant blame drivers if car is not fast enough.
these rumours say Häninen, Lappi and Suninen.
If this is the case I will be deeply disapointed.
No disrespect too lappi and Suninen, byt when you have two top drivers like Latvala and Mikkelsen floating around, this is the chance of a life time, and those two would speed up the development prosess immensely. And would make Toyota a contender from the word go.

Come on Lundefauret, that’s not a rumor, that’s a joke…
Anyone can believe that Makinen would prefer to spend 2 or 3 millions of Toy’s budget on his team development than on a top driver salary, bur if he can get Latvala or Mikkelsen almost for free (considering VW’s likely compensations) there’s no way he wouldn’t take them, even if the car turns out to be a crap (which I don’t believe).

Bit strange they were so clearly after Meeke then if this is where they are now at. I'm not sure to be honest. It's a long-term commitment from Toyota so why not get quick guys in from the word go. If it is true then all the sh*t this forum has slung at Toyota would be warranted.

We don’t know VW’s drivers contract clauses, but generally contracts can be disputed and additional compensations claimed when the contract purpose is not respected by the employer. One possible settlement can be a deal with a new employer, in order to share the employee salary payement till the projected duration of the contract expires. This means MSport could only pay a small part (or even nothing) of Ogier’s wage till the end of ’17.

No, it's completely false. Latvala himself and his manager Timo Jouhki have repeatedly said on Finnish media that quitting the WRC is not an option.
And regarding Mikkelsen, in this story

No surprise for Mikkelsen.
If Ogier chose M-Sport, there will be only one seat for either Latvala or Mikkelsen.
If Makinen prefers Latvala, it will be difficult for Mikkelsen to find a seat for next year (at least the beginning of the season).
Hanninen must drive full-year, especially the rallyes in the beginning, as he was the development driver. The third seat will only be part-season so Makinen will probably prefer a young driver such as Lappi of Suninen.
If Ogier goes to M-Sport, Tanak has yet signed and he has shown he is fast. And as a third driver, Malcolm may be forced to take a pay driver as Ostberg (or in the worst case Bertelli) or to keep Camilli to avoid to pay contract release.
D-Mack could be an option but they may prefer Evans who is a consistent driver and knows their tyres. However, D-Mack may have a great opportunity to make a good season if they sign a Evans-Mikkelsen line-up.

Possible but unlikely.
No, we don't know what is in the contracts ... but we can make an educated guess.
The drivers will get a termination payout, which may, or may not, be equivalent to a year's salary. Or more.
After which they'll be free agents on the open market.
If they choose to discount their services due to their Beetleworks payout that's up to them.

I don't think Makinen is interested in having both Latvala and Mikkelsen.

Mikkelsen and Latvala are third and sixth in the championship in a car that was capable of winning the world title with two events to spare. I don't think it's that clear these two are in the best three.
I don't want to lose them but it would be sad to see their continuation damage the career of upcoming drivers, especially in the case of Latvala who has had his chances when there are two young and fast Finns waiting in the wings.

Not really, but a deal like this could become very profitable in a not so distant future. Probably, only Toyota will be able to pay Ogier the same, or even more, than the germans did. Like many already said, a one year deal would allow to know if the Yaris can be competitive. For sure Citroen won’t be searching on PSA's not so deep pockets just to get him for one season, that’s why a VW/MSport arrangement may turn quite handy. And since we’re on wild guessing mode, who knows if Detroit won’t give him a wealthy contract extension at the end of ’17…

Reported L'Equipe brief interview with Malcolm Wilson (translation):
Q: Malcolm, tell us about the negotiations with Sébastien Ogier.
Malcolm Wilson: He has yet to settle some business, but last week we dealt with it on a daily basis. Most of my time I spend in the search for a solution that would allow me to next year seat Sebastien behind the wheel of one of our cars.
I've been dreaming about the opportunity to work with him, especially since the end of 2011, we were very close to signing a contract ( Ogier refused the offer of M-Sport, and a year ago, stayed in a Citroën guarantees equal status with Sébastien Loeb, what are the conditions met by the manufacturer was not). For this, I even miss Rally Australia, because I really want to do everything possible to get it.
Q: What are you currently working on specifically? Looking for sponsors who can pay for the appearance of Seb in the team?
Malcolm Wilson: Above all at once. M-Sport - the company - so that we can organize our work as we want. We can cut back on some investment, stop any activity or try to increase the amount of funding on the part of our partners.
Of course, we can not guarantee success - but I am convinced that we have a great car, and we all know, this is a capable driver. All we need now - a good budget.
Question: What are your arguments in your favour? The more you try to convince him to join it to your team?
Malcolm Wilson: The fact that M-Sport is still involved in the WRC ! We have already seen what can happen to any manufacturer, no matter how strong and assured it was.
In addition, we are confident in the potential of our new car. I would really like Seb to try it before we make some arrangement. If he gets out behind the wheel of our car, and says that it is not for him, I'll take it. But I really want him to test the car as soon as we can do it.
It is clear that we can not offer him all that he had in Volkswagen. However, he told me that a priority for him is the fact that car team that will allow him to win - and I am very glad to hear it.

I don't really agree with all the hate towards Toyota, no one at the moment knows how is their speed going to be like in 2017.
They started their WRC program from scratch like 9 months ago. They tried to get the best drivers available but as we all know they all had different plans and current contracts which led to Toyota to pick Juho and I don't see any problem with that.
People who blame them to have mostly Finnish employees etc. are dumb. Why wouldn't they pick people they know and trust?
I know for a fact that there is also people working from outside of Finland and I think they are all capable to do their jobs.
One big false that they are doing is letting team principal to be one of their test drivers, that's just plain dumb for me.

Why would he? Tommi is a multiple world champion who can provide a lot of useful feedback on the car (same with Gronholm as VW test driver), I don't think you can say the same about Malcom. He has done much better as a manager than he did as a driver.

Google translate:
WHAT FUTURE AND WHAT DESTINATION AND SEBASTIAN OGIER JULIEN INGRASSIA?
All rumors lead back to Sébastien Ogier today.
And if Reb Bull was the solution?
The fabric ignites since the official announcement of the withdrawal of Volkswagen Motorsport WRC World Championship. Everyone has his revelation or a rumor again.
Ogier is sticking to a few releases, refusing all interview with the press. While speculation is rife ...
Only Malcolm Wilson does not hide his desire that the quadruple world champion tests his Ford Fiesta RS WRC 2017 before starting discussions further with the French driver.
But it is fair to Malcolm, director of its Independent Business M-Sport which has no manufacturer Ford resource today, if not technical support for approvals.
The other directors stables remain discreet today, but who really know their desires to recruit Ogier - Ingrassia duo a four-time WRC World champion over the last four seasons.
Others ignite a probable approval of Polo R 2017 December 1, with the idea that they are taken over by a private stable. But how can we believe this when Volkswagen has never hired one of his weapons for four years?
From then everyone has his hypothesis. Even Yves Matton director of Citroën Racing remains discreet by saying that it was Ogier to make contact with him and not vice versa. For intentions and claiming that the strategy in 2017 will be based at Citroen on youth.
The only certainty today is that many left tubs available for Teams of builders. While regulation WRC 2017 allows them engaged until ... six WRC on one sleeve. But only three will be registered to score points for the constructor championship. Then in the end, only the two best seats will be selected to be recorded.
But the real problem for the teams factory today is the World Championship WRC resumes in less than two months and unable to build multiple chassis and the stock of parts Rechan
Or, it will leave a crew on the floor or run on an older version or WRC 2 to make room for the French.
Therefore another rumor seems plausible for the arrival of Ogier.
That of the Austrian company Red Bull, with its financial power as a challenge!
It must be said and remembered that Ogier is now the ambassador of Reb Bull. See again Red Bull in red Citroën Racing, it seems unlikely, with Abu Dhabi, the main sponsor acytuel.
Ditto for Toyota Gazoo Racing with Microsoft.
The most serious trail finally seems that Malcolm Wilson, although there is the risk of leaving a crew already planned on the floor early in the season.
Red Bull manager reportedly told late last week that there are discussions between Ogier and Wilson.
Figures have even circulated ... talking about 50 million € with the management of salaries of Ogier and Ingrassia!
The discussions also relate and deal with the arrival of Mikkelsen World Champion at M-Sport, Ogier has never hidden his sympathy for Andreas.
But things do not seem as simple today. As Malcolm said, noting that he still has unfinished business on his side.
Finally, remember all the same that Sebastien Ogier still has a two-year contract, not with Volkswagen, but with the VAG group alongside Mikkelsen elsewhere!
Out according to several sources, it appears that the group would not also let go easily or pay his remaining two years of the contract.
Hence the hypothesis that whosoever Ogier will even put their hands in the pocket to buy out their contracts!
A penny counts now among the German group with the risk of huge fines for them and one euro cent is a penny ...
And here we are talking of over 10 million € over two years excluding bonuses.
Colin Clark, the voice of the WRC, implied this week that the French would sign a season at M- Sport, discussions between Reb and M-Sport portannt two seasons.
This time Wilson should have a significant advantage over other teams.
Since he himself is the sole decision-maker, while others must obtain the approval of their sponsors.
Something not so simple today!
Malcolm must have other ambitions than Ogier in terms of image already, that would be huge with the world champion, but also his views cars everywhere with the famous and prestigious number 1 on the doors.
The probable arrival of other sponsors and the opportunity to see a Ford back with deep pockets, because this summer there was a rumor announcing the return of the American giant in the WRC, not for 2017 but for 2018 ...
We understand better why Malcolm is doing everything possible to seduce Ogier, or has decided to postpone his departure to Australia last round of the Championship WRC.
Besides that Ogier is a locomotive and a fine director developed. Lately Christian Loriaux said if Ogier becomes an M-Sport driver he would be happy to work with him ...
Of course when it comes to contract everything is possible, with a bid last minute switch that does everything.
But Red Bull track seems to have quite a future impact in the choice of the quadruple World Champion WRC. Today at M-Sport, the young Estonian Ott Tanak holds the rope to be part of the British team next season.
He again proved this season he has become more constant but the closest drivers top level.
So a Team M-Sport uniting Ogier, Tanak, Camilli, where Mikkelsen would be enough to scare a second team should come with two cars from M sport. The MACK D team with Elfyn Evans and Mads Otsberg likely unless either Eric Camilli if Ogier and Mikkelsen became official drivers M Sport ...
First with the next WRC 2016 Monte Carlo Rally, and with two new Fiesta RS 2017 from Sweden ..It anyway track that has given us this week Mads Otsberg he would be present at the rally Monte Carlo .. But probably not in the official team ..
Stay tuned !

From same source today:
Sébastien Ogier will test the Ford Fiesta RS WRC 2017 from M sport after the Australian rally, it is a certainty now announced by Malcolm Wilson himself. Once he has obtained all the guarantees he demands .. An operation that comes up with a lot of money and investment for Malcolm, but as he advances, it's the bet of his life!

An Italian website summed it up well for me:
"The question marks are many, starting with the car's competitiveness, the figures of the contract, a possible return of Ford to support M-Sport, or the intervention of Red Bull in the wake of Ogier. A number of items that in most cases cannot be answered at least until 2017, and therefore it's assumed that the commitment will be for one year only."

Malcolm Wilson with M Sport tries the bet of his life with the quadruple World Champion Sébastien Ogier!
Twice Malcolm had wanted to sign the French Champion at M-Sport, a first 1st time in 2010 and then at the end of the 2011 season, but lack of substantial financial resources, the case had flipped to the chagrin the British director finally resigned as forced and obliged to put a cross on his project!
But this time the stakes are quite different and Wilson tried his luck again with a pilot now four times crowned World Champion;
Once the French driver will be released from his obligations with the VAG group if he succeeds, he hopes to put everything on his side to finally attract to its Independent Business, the beautiful M-Sport structure.
Because he knows very well that with the quadruple World Champion, it will be the elevator to the top of the WRC and the challenge to attract big sponsors in his wallet. Malcolm does not hide that he also hopes a Ford back to the forefront in the WRC. With it the dream of Ogier's presence could cause this time official involvement of the American giant Dearborn Detroit meadows.
For this, M-Sport must first meet the requirements of the French World Champion, this does not necessarily include the involvement of Red Bull as main sponsor ...
But more essentially the contribution of several competent engineers for the rally because until now, Malcolm lack deep pockets had the habit of throwing young engineers with minimal experience and young engineers.
It was obviously mainly by lack of means!
Since the independent British organization, remember, saw sales of its competition cars to wealthy amateurs customers and number, they build themselves without financial support from Ford!
Therefore if he wishes to get his way, Malcolm will have to put the package to meet the requirements of Sébastien Ogier, so much that he gave up his trip to Australia.
To become deeply involved in the bet of his life, even though he tried many others before. To focus exclusively on the 'Ogier folder' and especially find the financial resources to increase its independent structure.
So as naturally to have the solutions to make more efficient the Ford Fiesta RS WRC in version 2017 that the team began to roll on the roads of Monte Carlo next in the French Alps and in the Drôme.
also the continuing development as do the other teams plants.
This is the first requirement of the French Champion now have a powerful and reliable car ...
And if possible with the official support of the Ford home!
Recall a recent comment by Christian Loriaux, which had dropped:
"If Ogier sign at M-Sport, I'll be delighted to return to work with him! "
Sign that French is the key to attract attention to M-Sport and especially the leadership of the American giant Ford to a comeback at the top level of the WRC, one of the goals for Malcolm Wilson.
But for this, the boss of M-Sport, will have to find funds to make its ultra professional structure in competitiveness. Time is short and the final testing in the south of France show that there is still much work to do to make the most reliable Fiesta.
Top speed is already there, for sure, but to have a goal in WRC, it is also necessary reliability, the basis of all chances of victory ...
As often said, the other Seb Loeb, "Before thinking about winning a rally, you have already reach the finish! "
Besides, Malcolm does not hide having discussions with Ogier currently seen as the market situation in the WRC, he also discussed as with all drivers in search of a steering wheel for 2017.
According to our sources, appointment would be even taken for the quadruple World Champion title, testing the Fiesta RS WRC in 2017, starting next week after returning from Rally Australia!
And the name of a database already insistently for a first grip of the quadruple World Champion ...
It burns between Wilson and Ogier because according to our best information, this time the matter seems committed to finally see Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in the cockpit of a car at M-Sport!

No really new information today in Motorsport News to move the VW/driver story on. At best everyone is just guessing and it's clear there's not really anything the drivers can say until after Australia. It does seem that it perhaps wasn't written crystal clear in the contract of Ogier etc what they do in a situation like this. So it seems that has taken some time to work through.
Both Veiby (Mikkelsen) and Jouhki (Latvala) saying they are confident something will be sorted - are speaking to multiple teams etc. Still says Citroen are looking to see what they can do to snare Ogier, and also looking to Abu Dhabi for potential funding.

""Nothing is really clear regarding the termination of the contract with Volkswagen, but we are talking to several teams about next year and I am confident we will see Andreas with a top team," he said."
And which team it could be?
Citroen? no.
Ford/M-sport? no... full with Ogier/Tanak/Camilli
Hyundai? no
Only chance to Toyota with Latvala and Juho, but will Tommy need him? And Toyota not a "top team".

There's no way it was a done deal to M-Sport... Ogier is far too smart to jump in with the first team to offer him a drive.

There's a saying in the UK "speculate to accumulate". Meaning you have to take a bit of a risk to potentially make a big gain.
Malcolm has put his cards on the table that's he's prepared to do that. It's a calculated risk. Depends how badly Citroen want Ogier I guess.

Citroen must surely want Ogier pretty badly... it would be as good as guaranteeing them the Title.
If they dont let Ogier test the C3 before he signs, then its a big mistake if he then goes to M-Sport who will let him test...

i can understand Msport's urge to draft Ogier and by extension thier desire to allow him to test the car before hand. However, i'm not sure if Citroen would then allow him to test the C3 without signing a contract first after testing the Ford 2017. In WRC it seem Ogier has two real choices -- Citroen or Msport (less obvious choice is Toyota), so these two teams do have some bargaining power and do not necessarily need to let Ogier hold all the cards. Granted he's WRC champion, but not every team may bend the rules the same way to get him. If Citroen believe they have the best car out here, then the meeke/breen/lefebvre combination may be able to do a competitive job against Ogier/tanak/camilli combination in ford.
it will be a new year with new cars, nothing is guaranteed as yet. We will have to wait and see if any of the new cars are built like a 2016 VW wrc tank to start with, as that was part of VW's advantage over the last few seasons

You on the other hand are getting veeery touchy. Mirek's post made all the sense in the world. If Msport has money, they have the chance to develop the car and it makes it a realistic choice for a very competitive driver whose main goal is to be top of the podium all the time.

Having good name drivers on the line up doesn't mean you're making them the team focus. Honestly, I bet Wilson is eager to sign Ogier because he feels that's a huge opportunity to get back Ford's full support to MSport. If so, he's being smart and looking for his business sake. Best luck to him!

Ford Europe have been saying they have a few massive announcements coming up soon. Interestingly the Ford Rally account now has a blank profile picture on twitter, I'm pretty sure recently it had the Ford badge as the picture anyone able to confirm this?
Also Ford confirmed the rumour a while back that should they be able to get a driver who can win the championship they'll be back, Ogier is that man.
If this all comes to fruition, Wilson has been very astute once again and Volkswagen leaving WRC has been on the cards for months, as they announced months back they be making savings in areas they deem unnecessary shortly after a US ruling over diesel-gate. Previously to the ruling they were in talks to purchase Redbull Racing, maybe Wilson has contacts and knew VW were looking to leave for a new challenge? Possibly why he's dragged his feet alot this season with driver lineups, I don't recall him hinting at all this time round during the season apart from Neuville after a few rounds.

In addition, according to Veiby, it's "possible" that Lappi isn't driving a full season in 2017, and that ofcourse is quite obvious, if 1) Latvala is indeed coming to Toyota and 2) Hänninen drives in all rallies (as once again confirmed by Mäkinen in Finnish media yesterday).

What would the new non-European rounds be? This year we were supposed to have 4. So based on that there would be Argentina, Australia, China and Mexico. So, if Argentina fixes the safety issues and China gets its act together, then what would the other 4 be? New Zealand, sth in Middle East, Safari and ...?

WRC promoter future aim: to get a 16 event calendar, 8 in Europe + 8 outside Europe. http://motor.as.com/motor/2016/11/21/mas_motor/1479689059_085955.html

The fans probably interpreted the category as 'Best livery (in a rally crash)' for the Rally Finland incident.

I think John (Janvanvurpa) has pointed out several times that North America is quite hopeless, when it comes to rallies on the world level (roads, organising, etc). But I may remember incorrectly as it's been quite some time since someone said North America could host a WRC event.

They need to clarify what they mean by fans because if they consider fans people that use WRC.com and WRC+ platform to get their WRC fix then they should just call them "bottom feeding plebs with no standards"
and by the looks of that list this is what they are.

Ciesla talking to AS: 2017 calendar will keep 2016 rallys. Turkey will not be taken for security reasons and China is only an option for 2018. WRC promoter future aim: to get a 16 event calendar, 8 in Europe + 8 outside Europe. http://motor.as.com/motor/2016/11/21/mas_motor/1479689059_085955.html
Oh dear. They're repeating all the mistakes ISC/ NorthOne made. 16 events is far too many, for a sport that is 'niche'. This isn't F1 which can afford to go everywhere. 10-12 properly promoted 'events' that make a noise when visiting each country; instead of the bland identikit events we currently get.

The organizer of RallyMobil (Chile´s National Championship) said that he was in Wales during Wales Rally GB talking the WRC promoters and that in a few years there will be a round of the WRC in Chile.
If I am not mistaken, the date was 2018.
Also, this same guy (Felipe Horta), was in Argentina during the WRC event talking about a WRC event in Chile.
Maybe that´s one of the non-European events planned...

nothing.... they are bringing the MTV culture into the sport, the "everyone gets ice cream either they win or not" mentality.
They even gave an award for best livery in a video game to a person who does not belong in the sport.
The promoter with the blessing of the FIA is turning the most historic motorsport in the world into a plebian circus of nobodies, and i cannot blame them when you have "fans" that pay money to get WRC+ and they are ok with the current promotion of WRC, ok with the on board cameras, ok with the useless pro photographers who take pictures of lakes and flowers, ok with the spectators that take videos of hairpins, ok with those videos that chinless vagabond dog going around trash cans, ok with having to pay stupid ticket prices to put you into those hairpins, ok with people who consider bogey times a solution, and countless other things.
Its the new era ladies, you are not allowed to critisise anything because you might burst the pink bubble of political correctness.

It would be quite funny if Lappi would be Toyota´s nr.2 and Latvala Toyota´s nr.3. :D Well it would make sense to me. Lappi could evolve into top driver (and they are aiming at 2018) so being team manager I would put him into the WRC car for as many rounds as possible. Latvala will never change. For sure, he is kind guy, one of the fastest drivers, but he is...Latvala (which means very inconsistent because of his mind)

Jouhki can say whatever he wants, i actually believe that Wilson isnt interested hiring Latvala. Only 3 podiums this season with VW.
but like my friend said (who is also rallying): "There are two drivers in WRC whose future is sure, Ogier because he is the best and Latvala because he has the best manager."

What for?
Don't have a link handy but they said they will continue the program as far as they can, up to preparing homologation papers and going through the preliminary steps. But they can't actually homologate the cars because they won't enter as a manufacturer.
I assume this is because they still have the budget which was approved for this year and they're just going to try to finish the job as best they can.

I will never understand this.
If they signed a deal, why not make it public? All those secrets around Toyota are just annoying and I think useless too. For sure they're not gathering fans in such way.
Makinen should have hired some communication expert. In 2016 it's fundamental.

Lappi was still under contract of Škoda and it was before he become WRC2 champion with Škoda.
