Real problem for Loeb and Citroën is that they can ONLY use as per FIA rule 5 engines in 2008.
Sordo blew 1 in MC, now Loeb in Sweden.... still 13 events to go

It's five per car, ie. each has four left.

Madeira
10th February 2008, 12:38
still remaining another fight in the PWRC. The Portuguese Bernardo Sousa against Campedelli...

Correct, but plan is to use engine for 3 events, Sordo lost his on the 1st of 3, Loeb on the 2nd of 3.
It this continues they will have a HUGE problem later in the year.

In Mexico most M teams will have final event for engine nr1 and Citroën will have engine nr2 already in use ... (as an example, you know what I mean)

Congrats to J-M and Miika, amazing, superb first win! :D

I think it's fair to say that now he really is one of the flying Finns! And I also thing that if he just manages to keep up speed like this he will be also fighting for the championship.

I'm one happy woodeye right now. :D

Who does score manu-points?

Jari-Matti LATVALA
Mikko HIRVONEN
Gigi GALLI
Petter SOLBERG
Dani SORDO
Toni GARDEMEISTER
Henning SOLBERG
Chris ATKINSON

Is this correct?

Sulland
10th February 2008, 13:03
To
Latvala for first win
Galli for good pace on the white stuff
Henning for very good pace and impressive recoveries, too bad with the bridge...
Petter for taking the blue car (with wrong shocks) to the finish
Mikkelsen for a very impressive Swedish debut
Mads for tremendous speed with the Sub
Gardemeister to get to the finish with a still data gathering Suzuki

Sorry for Wilson !!

PWRC
Hanninen for taking 8th total, and winning PWRC
Sandell for a real fight, first with Hanninen for the lead, then Prokop for the Bronze - Super Show, and fun to see that our neighbours are starting to come back !

A bit sorry for Brynildsen that lost some steam after a few early challenges, he will be back !

1) Why are people so happy Sandell got third?
2) Latvala looks very good for his age.
3) But I think and hope Mikkelsen will beat his record of youngest ever WRC winner!

No, it wasn't first Sandell's run in 4WD. He did at least one rally last year in Serbia with Evo 9. And Prokop drove some rallys with Octavia WRC in the past and with Evo 9 it was his 3rd rally (Acropolis and Walles 2007).

Wonderful event. Offcourse for me as Ford fan :D but more for me as rally fan. we saw a new winning driver... and what for one  :bounce: Latvala is very good. No crashes this times ;) but mature drive. I saw the press conference on wrc.com and I saw a boy what was grow up!
Hirvonen and Sweden is not a gold combination. Great to see Galli on the podium too!

Ford, Latvala and Antilla congratulations!

Other stars in this rally what made this rally wonderful are Mikkelsen; very fast and Ostberg; outpaced Petter some times.

Sordo was not bad. Look at the time without the 5 min. penalty Great, great!
Wilson has either a good drive. Improved a a lot if we see at last year. Could be better, but was ok. Pitty he missed the last stages.

Shame for Henning and Loeb they had an off. I expected more of Henning.

With that resourses behind, Mikkelsen has to beat Latvala´s record. He has the best possible mentor (Marcus) and the car and Andreas seems to be ok also as a person. Also Østberg showed that he may replace Petter in the future. So good things for the Norwegian rallying...

Great that rallying seems to go now into right direction also in Sweden. Andersson and Sandell are talanted drivers.

Of course Finnish drivers are there allways.. Hirvonen and Latvala can be on the top next 10-15 years and we have also Hänninen, Ketomaa and Alen. And also some other future stars...

i think sordo drove very well. 7min13sec behind, if minus the 5min penalty, he would be fighting with gigi for the podium. i had latvala for 1st place in the pickum so i wasn't surprised that he won. looks like citroen have to look at their engine. i would have think that sweden would cancel the whole rally liek they would have lat year due to environment problem. it look more like an ice/gravel rally more than snow.

Congratulations to Jari-Matti and Miikka. Well done!!! Also well done to Mikko and Gigi on their good drives. Same to Andreas, hard luck Matthew.
As a Brit have seen a lot of the youngsters here in UK when they first started; J-M, Matthew, Andreas. Two of them were obviously quick straight away, the other a slow burner. Interestingly I've mentioned the 2002 Cambrian before, well all 3 podium positions have had good weekends; Mikko now the WRChampionship leader, Jari-Matti youngest WRC event winner, and Andy Burton wiiner of yesterday's Wyedean in the Peugeot-Cosworth. We may moan sometimes, but what a great sport Rallying is!!

To the rally; great stuff bu Latvala, very good and although he had showing fast speed, this is what everybody was hoping at Ford. He's now got extra confidence and i believe he could be a big thread on the comming gravel rounds for both Mikko and Sebastian. Sordo did a good job either and will be up there aswell on the next gravel rounds, Galli, 2 rounds already in the points and more important in Sweden he was showing also a very encouriging speed and will be a joker in the next rounds, this will be a more "open" championship than the previous 3 years! Hopefully Duval will found more money to step in this big fights also, not only on tarmac rounds which i believe he will going for gold. Subaru must bring the new car asap, till that time both drivers must collect as mony points as possible. Suzuki
s performance is not that bad, it's good to have them too.
All in all, very interseting and positive about this season after Sweden :)

Was it not a real rally this weekend? Where have I been this weekend then? I have to ask Pino, what have we done this weekend? :D

We've been somewhere in Sweden, in a cottage, playing great blues-music, drinking nice swedish beer...and eating the best pasta in the world ;) It was great, and I look forward to next year in Norway :D

Got home last night and just about recovered!

I enjoyed the rally very much, but don't think we selected the best spots to watch apart from one stage on Saturday morning which was brilliant

As usual the company was great, and was good to meet a few new forumers even if we did our best to avoid Magnus! Thanks to Pino for the excellent food, Brother John for driving us around without incident and fantastic music, and Jonathan for co-driving duties

Norway next year has to be a definite :D

Just some thoughts which came to my mind. I enjoyed the rally very much, allthough there were a little snow. Gigi, Jarri and Henning were the stars for me in wrc, in group N Sandell and Juho were great.
I was some 100 m away from the spot where Loeb crashed out and the bad sight which i saw when i arrived to the seen was that there were lot of people who ran there but few helped out. It´s just sad. I understand that lot of people might not like Seb, but giving a hand to help him out would have been polite. Also i have to say that swedish people are very polite and nice. Can´t wait till the new rally sweden comes in 2010!

Greetings from Sweden again, it was my 12th time in a row..

The weather stole the show almost, and we decided to choose the northernmost stages to avoid cancellations.

We started from shakedown, which had a tricky S-corner right at the finnish. Some wide line was there to be wittnessed and afterwards the road conditions came worse so the fast part before that seemed really tricky. No one went off but some were close. I really liked the rally village + shakedown + SSS concept, but the weather was something the organizer couldn´t do anything to. On SSS1 we managed to witness a roll already as Semerad rolled his Mitsu on tightening right from inside.

We found really nice and tricky place from Bjälverud stage SS3, about 3kms from the start there was a blind left-right which seemed really promising and we had high expectations. It would be nice to see how the best drivers in the world could control their car in that "sumppu"-place which seemed really open entering it high speed but which turned behind the bank really tightly first to left and then to right slightly uphill and again to left over crest..

Show started well, Loeb went perfectly and really fast, but the Hirvonen as the second car hit the bank in the righthander ploughing the snowbank really bad. The car lifted its right front tyre high up the air bet Mikko controlled it amazingly and continued without timeloss. Third car was Atkinsson and he hit the same bank that threw the car around, hit a tree and got stuck in the snowbank in the last corner. It took a long time to lift him up as there was only about 10 people there to help and that place required really thorough warning as it was long sequence of corners where there was little room for braking. Chris wanted to throw in the towel as the car was really deep but I managed to speak some sense to him and he continued to try. After several minutes of work we could get him back on the road.

After atkinsson and Hirvonen took the snowbank (there was actually quite a lot of snow up there!) several drivers ended up in difficulties in that place, for example Merksteijn, Nittel, Ketomäki and Sauván haged spectacularly on the edge of the ditch lifting their tyres up almost rolling.

On the second run through Mikkelsen and again Merksteijn had difficult time there and Svedlund and Munster both ended up out where Atkinsson went and then to the other side ditch snowploughing 30metres in ditch. Both managed to come up quickly.

Really nice and action packed place there!

Then on saturday we went to our traditional place 2 kms before Colin´s lift, where there's always been some action. This year it was less, as there were some warning tapes there to guide the drivers to that blind tightening right. Svedlund and Sauv´n hit the bank quite deep but that's all. I would have liked to seen the national drivers drive that place in the dark, I'm sure there would have been some action.

On Sunday we went to see the classical Sordo - Stohl - Solberg - Prokop - Schie - Griazine - Brynildsen place on Ullen stage. On that corner the grip was good as it was completely gravel, but still my favourite driver Sauván rolled his Mitsu which ended up pretty bad shape after rolling over big rocks there.. Sauv´n was spectacular everywhere and had his own lines on all our places. Surprising that he managed to get so far!

The other round was cancelled so we went to Rämmen's last corner where Araujo went off last year. Now they had decided to but all the warning tapes left to that last corner so there was no action. No one could drive through the tapes if he weren´t blind!

The weather got worse and worse, too bad the rally wasn't held a week before. But still it was a good competiotion, and the fastest man definitely won.

Latvala drive´s nicely, uses big slides and is really confident. On Bjälverud it was nice to listen and compare him to other on the mountain side where we could hear the cars for several kilometres. Latvala went pretty much flat out that section, only couple of times braking and then immediately again on gas. The others were hesitating, and braking and accelerating braking again and accelerating again several times in one corner. Theoretically you should either accelerate maximum or brake maximum, otherwise you loose time. Latvala drove exactly like that!

Galli was also really promising and calm, controlling the race behind works Fords. Nice job. Also I´d like to mention Mikkelsen extremely mature drive and Östberg´s aggressive and spectacular approach. Both are really promising talents!

I bet Östberg has been spectacular because what I saw from the footage, his driving was insane... and I do mean in a good way :)

Sami, at the Shakedown, we first went to the hairpin, then walked back to the left turn before the S-corner and finally we moved to the same spot you were. Pity we didn't meet eachother, it would've been great :s mokin: Btw that spot was great but the corner before was also cool ;)

Some spectators gave him the nickname “Mads McRae” I hear after his totally different approach to the corners than the works Subarus.
And I like to think the real McRae, RIP, wouldn’t mind. :)

Well, that was my 5th Swedish rally. Probably the worst of them all.

We stayed in Brattfors, which was half the problem, as it was a hour drive to ever stage but Hörssjon. They simply need to move all the stages NORTH of Hagfors, or move the rally completely to say, Ljusdal or Ostersund, that knowing they are under pressure to compact the route. Organizers are quite stupid in this way.All the drivers did was complain.

Leg1:
Stensjön 1. Good corner, good access to the start line to see the cars up close and personal. Good ice, PG and Loeb stole the show. Not a long walk from parking area. Lots of stuck FWD cars in the lot though.

We bought a Gold pass to have dinner at the VIP box in Karlstad to see the SSS. What a waste. The food was horrible. View terrible and they cancelled the stage after half the GroupN cars went through. 1300sek 200dollars wasted. I commented to my freinds "geez, for 1300krona, I expect a belly dancer or swedish blonde to sit on my lap" Foggy, long drive back home.

Leg2
Horssjon 1. This stage was the most southerly, and the road was tore up before we got there. In fact, it was plain hot. I stood there in a t shirt for the stage until it was cancelled. Loeb was nuts fast. Mikkelsen looked great. As did Hainanen.

Hagfors 2. This was another good area, but the parking was a bit nasty. The road was tore up. The parking area was over the Ullen stage used the next day. The roads there wern't bad. We did hear the drivers complain about the Hagfors Sprint. Its funny to watch Italians and Catalans try to make fires in the swedish woods.

Leg 3.
Rämmen 1. We ran into Matthew Wilson, Gigi and Petter rotating tires right outside the entrance the the 3a spectator point. Phil was pissin out his morning coffee into the snow, and I had a chance to talk with Petter. He said "I have to take it slow not to take the tire off the wheel, just wait for the new car". I told him to keep his head up, and everyone is supporting him during these bad times.

The stage spectator area was great. Good sweeping corners. Interesting to see the different lines of Gigi, JM and Mikko through the same corners.

I was happy to see the result. JM Mikko and Gigi earned it.
