I think that the S2000 must not be the easiest car to drive in snow conditions! The N4 cars should be easier to drive because of their torque as well and ofcourse their transmission systems.
Anyone have any related info?
Overally I think that S2000 is faster than group N car. For instance Dani Sola's times on asphalt last year were better than group N car could ever achieve. Also in Tunturi rally K. Sohlberg was clearly leading ss 1 but then retired due to technical problem.

Corsican drivers haven't the PWRC drivers level, I don't think we can compare them... ;)
But at the 2007 Portugal rally(gravel) there were many more GrNs(including Brynildsen and Flodin as top drivers, countless the portuguese GrNs)and there Bruno Magalhaes showed a real value of S2000s !!

LOL true xD
PG`s engine is finish, so no superrally from him
Crap :( Suzuki come on ! The drivers are competitive ! Give them a car which doesn't broke in half as soon as possible.
i doubt he's ever walked on snow before, much less driven on it, much less rallied on it. cut him some slack.

You know if you read the other threads you will see that I never said hey this or that guy doesn't deserve his (paid) seats. The more cars the better IMHO !
But like somebody says (Daniel ehm... xD !) that cannot stop us to criticize them. I mean, he has been even slower than Rautenbach on the Xsara sometimes (and Wilson *cough*). At least on Monte he was ok (even funny to see, caught him in video doing some nice slides too :)

On one hand, Mikko is very sensible. He should capitalize Loeb's retirement to the max and avoid retirement at all cost.
On the other hand, if he gives up too easy in intra-team fight with JML, can he expect to be the top dog when it really matters? He's driven safely for manu points for two years, will it prove to be too difficult to shake off that mentality overnight?

The decision to permit the use of a stage will be determined by means of an inspection carried out by an FIA inspector/s. The procedure for such inspection is noted in Article 15 of the present Regulations. The inspection may be carried out at the insistance of the Organiser in the case of new stages or by the FIA if in its opinion the previous running of the stage requires corrections to be put into place.

120 km/h average is not unusual in Sweden, and no problem re. the regulations. Actually Sweden is the second fastest rally in the WRC series.
Ouninpohja in Finland has topped 130 km/h for the whole stage - with a long stretch in the middle even a lot faster than that. FIA has deemed that too fast and accordingly Ouninpohja regretably is history.

COD has a point about Hirvonen but I still like to believe there's more than meet the eye... maybe in Ford's strategy for the following days.
Anyway, before the rally Mikko said the most important thing is to keep Loeb behind and nothing else matters.
Let's say Mikko settles for second place. At points he would be 6 points ahead Loeb which is nothing. Three tarmac rallies and that's MINIMUM what Loeb catches him, probably even more with Sordo's help.
So, in many ways, more aggressive pace from mikko would be very welcoming :mark:

Instead of asking why Mikko is so slow shouldn't we be amazed about JML's pace? Mikko was ahead of Loeb at the time when Sebastien went off, didn't see anyone wondering at that time why Mikko is so slow?
You can clearly see from stage times that he stopped pushing after he saw Sebastien on snow bank...no reason to push anymore...

Last year Mikko was less than 10 sek in front of Grönholm in Norway. Ford didn't play any tactical games. Hopefully they wont do it this time again. It is not like Wilsons politics.
I think that it is very bad to be first on the road even on the second pass.. because the slower cars are dragging all the snow back on the road and first few are cleaning it again

I agree. Latvala set a blistering pace through the stages which his team mate coudn't follow or he didn't want to risk so much. Anyway noone could follow JM.
Latvala might prove a revelation for the WRC or he a one off great showing. We can't know that yet.
There are 2 more days for the rally end. I like to see how can Mikko cope with this pressure now and the pace he will follow the next days. Can he match Latvala's speed this weekend?
We ll see tomorrow!

With no offence, Richard Burns (RIP) had similar tactics and rarely attacked.
Anyway, I think Mikko is playing safe for TODAY. Why push and danger now that Loeb is away. One puncture and the situation could be much worse to him.
I think there's much reserve left out now.

One of the most impressive today was in my opinion Mads Østberg.
His second rally in the new car, but also with a lot of testing under his belt.
He has, as with the S10 changed a lot of settings on the new car, and using totally different settings than SWRT. Rumors also has it has it that he has changed from Sachs shock-absorbers to Rieger, also on this one. And is very happy with the result of that, getting much more traction.
(as Petter always are talking about....)
If it had'nt been for a stop on SS3 and a puncture on SS4 he had been equal, or a bit in front of Petter....
Looking forward till tomorrow, to continue the rally with 4 Norwegians among top 9 !!

He's fifth in an old car, and he can still aim for a podium place, espesh with the abundance of retirements. He's less than 60 secs off of 2nd.

Sturla
8th February 2008, 20:17
That`s no dissing of Petter, but the fact is today that Mads was faster than Petter. Mads is driving a 07 subaru with other shocks, the same shocks that ford uses. And I think it`s abit odd that Mads is driving faster than Petter. Mads had two spins and a puncture. Maybe Subaru should think about using other shocks they also??

No. When you are in the top 8 from factory teams (Ford, Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki) and M2-teams (only Stobart this year), you can score automatically points. Group N cars or real privateers with WRC cars before Loeb are not important to score manufacturer points.

Why Flodin doesn't show in split chart ? Won't he start today or doesn't have the gps-device ?

Good morning all,
When is the 2/3 km stage so IN CASE they need to cancel the rest of the rally and still give FULL points.
If temp is to high and rain they might have to as roads are getting destroyed.
