That alone is a current problem he is there to Marshall not take pictures on his phone. Why hasn't he told the crew they need they're ok board displayed or asked them for it to display himself instead of taking a picture. You can't rely on the attitude of a Marshall for the seriousness of an incident. The fact Edmund asks for the next car to be stopped doesn't help

btw: in the same video you can see the fire spread out badly well after neuville. after using the extinguisher at the end of the video, the co-driver clearly says to stop next car, and marshall asks for "any sign". so the danger situation is assessed well after neuville.

    completely agree on that.
just saying the general behavior around the car at the moment of neuville arrival seems relaxed and doesn't signal any danger or need to stop for help. this is what the driver sees, doesn't mean that was not needed, but drivers rely on what they can see and i think neuville is not to blame in that case, maybe the marshall a bit more. probably they didn't get the seriousness of the fire, or were convinced it was already under control or extinguishing...

use of both is probably a good idea anyway to get the situation sorted quickly and get notice fast to both marshall/spectator and drivers, i think.

It is not the role of a marshal to make sure the competitor knows / follows the regulations. you can't expect a volunteer marshal who is there to keep the public safe to worry about adherence to sporting regulations.

That reference to the Supp Regs is quite telling 'shall immediately and without exception'..... that is a clear statement from the rules.

    What?

the marshals are there in the first place to keep everyone safe, including competitors. That's why they have fire extinguishers, radio's, flags and first aid training. They are supposed to know at least the basic rules.

WRC+ onboards are up but nothing from SS9. Thus we can't confirm from Neuville's onboard whether someone showed him the OK sign earlier than in the video.
