There is also a sub plot to this. Perez was to be discarded by Racing team after the final race in 2020.
That was also in Abu Dhabi only. He started from the last position after engine issue but still won that race. Perez said after that race that "I want to be remembered that I gave my all for the team as a true team man".
Horner recruited him in Red Bull in 2021 since he believed in him when no one else did.
Fast forward 12 months and we are at the last race of 2021 at the same venue.
Perez blocked Hamilton to reduce the gap with Verstappen from 10 seconds to 1 sec, otherwise in the final Lap Hamilton should have been 40 seconds ahead and could have done the pitstop to do the soft tyre change.
Then Horner said at lap 52 that "We need a miracle to win."
God gave him that miracle since he did that good karma to Perez exactly 1 year back.

It wasn't right but the horse has bolted now, whats done is done. Reversing the decision so long after the winner being declared would do even more damage than what has already been done. Merc pursuing this further would also likely have a detrimental effect against their image.

Lewis understandably isn't happy but HE has accepted it, I only wish his fans were capable of showing the same grace.

I think they have acted in an unsavoury manner. They should have not made a fuss in the first place if they did not intend to follow through. They created a furore that cast a dark show over Verstappen's championship title for no reason. That l find very unreasonable. They should have only reserved the right to appeal only if they fully intended to appeal. Otherwise, their action is as bad as Masi's.

I had an Ex cheat on me many years ago, does that count? Yep, it was truly horrible... but there is quite a substantial key difference here, Lewis is just a racing driver.
