Is the rally over.

When the road is dry Neuville, Ogier, and I think even Mikkelsen are faster then Tänak. The Estonian did an amazing job. He handle the car good on tricky conditions and has a lot if luck today. But in dry situation it will be difficult for him to stay in front. I hope I am wrong. He did a really good job today.

Latvala was running in the top five before he was slowed by an issue on the final stage of the morning loop. The Toyota mechanics replaced the ignition system during the mid-day service

I have to admit I was surprised to see Tänak do this well on tarmac. Also delighted to see Mikkelsen so high on a Citroen. Latvala could be fifth now without his engine problems, sad to see the car fail on him for the third time in a row.

The WRC+ daily highlights video apparently has a bug and stops at 12 minutes, but Redbull TV to the rescue...

I meant he is doing much better that the start of the season. Remember he had not done a WRC rally in years. Shows how important it is to compete regulary. Sure he has not done enough to get a seat for next year, but doing a good job for manufacturer points, just what he is supposed to do

Yes completely agree with what you wrote there.

------------
Things to watch today:

- Tanak on dry tarmac, in Corsica he was a bit behind the top 3 in speed, how about here.
- C3 on dry tarmac
- Ogier usually is very good on Panzerplatte, how about Neuville this year (related: tirewear on I20?)
- Breen vs Hanninen

"It's really very cruel, we did not understand what happened," analyzed Nicolas Gilsoul at the microphone of Olivier Gaspard, the special envoy of the RTBF in Germany. Everybody is cutting off next to the road, there is a small five-centimeter fitting, which normally goes easily with our cars and tires, and there was a snag, and that broke the suspension. I do not think it's a bad idea, but it's incomprehensible, and it's a disaster for us, because the race is over here, and it's a good option for the title, but not all of them. "As long as mathematically, It will be necessary to count on us in the race for the title. We must try to evacuate these negative emotions to reconcile tomorrow on the continuation.

Actually if you think back, last year's rally deutschland was even worse. I could be wrong but I think there were something like 12 stages total, more than one was cancelled IIRC, and there were probably just two live stages, both the same crap superspecial. Last year made me genuinely angry. Looks like this (German) Promoter lets his German friends get away with very lazy organizing.

Yes, I think pictures speak themselves, here it's Neuville vs Ogier in the same corner

Basically Ogier didn't cut there at all.

EDIT: Tanak also cuts but his car was more straight, Neuville's was sideways already. Pure driver mistake imo.

That neuiville place was very tricky, this sharp edge was noticed by some drivers and marked as possible location for puncture. Neuville did a mistake by sliding into the edge there, this is basically like hitting kerb and that made the damage.. some hidden damage from yesterday, possibility as well.

No, Panzerplatte is the place to attack because on safer stages everybody can push. The decisive stages are always the hardest and the longest because if you are better, you can gain much more there.

What an awful rally for both Paddon and Latvala. From the get go they both seemed completely out of tune with their driving, IMO. I hope their confidence or concentration comes back for Spain, or the power stage at least.

Pleasant surprise from Hanninen too, every time I think he should go he's not too bad.

Also, knowing Mikkelsen's luck Tanak will crash on the power stage and he'll win.

Didn't see it posted here, but very honest interview with Neuville on the radio now.

He says he will be taking a more aggressive approach to the championship now and taking more risks to close the gap to Ogier. He is not interested in second in the championship.

When asked about the car, he feels there are some areas they can improve on, mainly aerodynamics and engine power. "it is not so bad".

He feels like his team mates are a good support and hope to be able to rely on them to help him get the championship.

That was the major points from it.
