Here we have potentially the fastest driver by far this year doing stupid mistakes, if he keeps like that he can be the dog pack leader and have as followers latvala, tanak and meeke, at least the 3 mentioned doing mistakes when pushing and not when cruising, i cannot remember anyone in the history of the sport throwing away 2 wins in a row like that.

I think accident happen on the first "lap". Hänninen had to stop because of Neuville and thats why his time was +40sec slower. Time was given back, check from stewards decision.

nobody ever said that about Meeke, only the people who are basic enough and whenever someone shows some speed he immediately becomes a future world champion in their simple mindset.

Hyundai World Rally Championship driver Thierry Neuville says his retirement from the lead of Rally Sweden down to bad luck rather than pushing too hard.
The Belgian was 46 seconds ahead when he damaged the steering on his i20 Coupe WRC during Saturday night's superspecial stage.
Sweden is the second event in succession Neuville has retired from the lead, after damaging rear suspension when he hit a bridge parapet in Monte Carlo last month.
"It was a slow corner and I turned at the wrong moment," Neuville said.
"The tyre hit something, a truck tyre [part of the inside barrier] and I lost the steering. At that point, the rally was finished.
"It would be frustrating if I did a mistake and destroyed the car, but I was doing the perfect job and Nicolas [Gilsoul, co-driver] as well.

Of the top 3 Tanak has shown the best pace and considering the gap he has the best chance to win, so it would be dumb to tell him to slow down because it would mean neutering your team's best chance to win. So for the first stages I'm sure he will be free to fight. After that we'll see how it goes; maybe Tanak will go off or be slower, Ogier finds some crazy speed etc. But again I think it's silly to suggest Tanak will "suddenly have problems" when he is the best chance for M-Sport to win the rally.

Except if Latvala crashes or loses/wins a lot of time before the last stage it means that the team orders will have to be done after the last stage by checking in late or something like that. Otherwise it would make more sense to try to fight to the end. If the positions are Latvala-Tanak-Ogier or Tanak-Ogier-Latvala with a gap bigger than 10s between Tanak and Latvala in the 2nd case then Tanak can just check in 1 minute late, gets 10s penalty and Ogier gets the points.

About Ogier's contract and supposed clauses... well that's just speculation and I doubt he has such a clause. Unless someone shows me the contract or I see some blatant team orders I won't believe such a clause exists.

Neuville the heartbraker. Here's me thinking he got this and won't do the same as in Monte. But no. Really stupid choice of stages to make the errors on, a completely dry tarmac stage in Monte and an SSS in Sweden. Stages which should be a routine drive.

Like someone pointed out earlier it seems to be concentration related? As soon as he says he will control the remaining stages he crashes.

All I'm hoping for now is that Tänak finally gets his win, he's due one already. Mäkinen and Latvala already knows the feeling of a win so they could wait.

Even after Hanninen's trees and Meeke's left hander offs, I was genuinely surprised.

why doesn't he just take that wheel off and drive on 3 wheels to the finish? its not like its a long stage.

he would have lost a minute or 3/4, but that still would have placed him 6th.

Remember, driving with 3 wheels isn't allowed.He needs 4 wheels on car at all times.
On road sections. He was allowed to drive stage like this, check into TC and park for repairs

yeap if he had broke bent at both sides the wheels couldn't do it.
He worked only on left side of a car. After finish left side he jacks right side, do visual check, start-up car and turn a steering wheel... all front wheels are turning. So only left side was broken.

Tanak needs to find the killer instinct to get over the line and win these types of rallys. Surely it'll come this year at least once. 2nd place marks a great start to the championship nonetheless (if he does indeed finish 2nd). Jari has had the pace so I really hope he doesn't have any problems now

mistakes from neuville and early problems for tanak in both rallies, and on the final day ford plays it safe in sweden, the fords where running very well on setup for the whole rally and suddenly the car lost its settings ? of the final two stages are that much different ?

This morning the rally was poised for an epic battle for the win but it turned out a bit disappointing.

Great job by Latvala and Toyota though. I still feel this will be the highlight of their season but they definitely exceeded all our expectations i think!

Latvala never showed he has the speed to be faster than tanak... bare in mind that tanak lost almost 40 secs on day 1 due to problems with diffs, and suddenly he cannot catch Latvala and decided to change a setup that he was faster by more than 1 minute ?
