Difficult to say. One of the top 2 will win it from here, but I also think one of them will bin it. Really exciting having so many good drivers in good cars, it's been a long time since we had this type of strength in depth in the WRC.

Latvala presents the Yaris’s aero. Nothing special what he says else that they have to have downforce also in the front because of big rear wing. In the end good view of the diffuser. They are not using the openings at front of the rear wheels in Sweden.

"Aerodynamics greatly changes the behavior of these new cars, in very fast portions, the car goes down at the top, There is a lot of support that gives us more grip and stability. You have to drive very efficiently with these cars, you have to "dose" almost every corner. "
"It is clear that it is going faster and that we must be well awake," said Sébastien Ogier. "You have to be very careful and have good notes so as not to be surprised."
"It's incredible," added Kris Meeke, "this is the first time you can really see the potential of the car, which was not possible at the Monte Carlo. Roads very fast, you can really feel the contribution of the aero. The car is much more stable than in the past. "

The quadruple world champion then expressed some doubts about the all-new Knon special (ES9-ES12), which competitors will borrow twice this Saturday.
"In this special, it's going to be crazy. The averages are likely to reach 135 or even 140 km / h. When one sees the road conditions, with finally few walls of snow, it is limit safety level. I hope that the FIA and the organizers will make decisions ... "

"At Monte Carlo, we did not have the right tires, fortunately by the way, and it was already very fast. Here in Sweden today we saw today in the second special of the day (ES3-ES6) that the speeds were important. Thierry has twice the best time at more than 125 km / h on average.

Sorry to say, but he is right! The rules stipulate 120 km/h max for stage average. Finland organizers will have to prepare for this issue also this year. Last year saw a record speed of about 126 km/h with 2016 cars of course!

First off, thanks for not being a NOT and being civilized. :)
I think the stages should go on. In the past average speeds have exceeded the 120 km/h you say above, so there's no reason to enforce them. In addition, Ogier always, no exceptions, will try to get his way by whining and complaining. Hell, the running order change was likely heavily encouraged to the FIA due to him.

Maximum average speed rule has been long gone. And wasn't it 130 km/h when it were in regulations? Now each stage gets a go when its safety standards are cleared by FIA.
Sure Rally Finland organizers have thought about this for well over a year now. New cars still doesn't rule out using normal stages. Maybe new stages are looked up from smaller roads, but I don't expect any major changes. Some spectator safety issues have already been addressed in previous years, like moving spectators zones in open areas a bit further as average speeds have got higher already a year after year. Outside spectator zones you should have the freedom as per usual.

Strange to risk it all when you are already well behind on time.

I will wait until the proper rallies of the season to draw my conclusions. Monte and Sweden and partially mexico are not rallies where you can see clearly the pace of the cars, unless of course you believe that Neuville can be faster that Ogier by almost 1 sec per km in equal conditions.
But then again for me rallying is more than just watching hairpins.

To brag about toyota based on latvalas performance in sweden it would be equally stupid to bash them because of hanninens performance.
I am not expecting people to become smart, that is impossible, but at least stick to your own basic world and discuss basic rallying things like who jumps the longest at colins crest and wake up at 6 to go and watch a hairpin to see who pulls the handbrake and who doesn't.

Average speed is not a good measure of safety. Believe me, I am from a country where average speed is held as a sacred safety feature. It has a meaning only in several special cases when comparing stages are very similar in their nature.

If it fresh snow - first cars must a pull away it to able dig studs into ice. So laterunners have an advantage
If it only ice - first car have an advantage, because every run make road more ruted with less grip

If I may ask another newbie question:
It seems to me it's generally an advantage to go first on tarmac, and a disadvantage to go first on gravel. But what of ice, how does that work? And would fresh snow change anything?
Clean ice = very good grip, if you're using studs obviously. In that case, you'd benefit from running first. The more cars that passes by that ice layer will eventually tear.
But should there be snow covering it, the first cars will sweep away the snow and the later cars will get to use the ice more.

You don't need to be. Probably I have missed the point made to a less important "stuff" for the sport.

lol, what?
I wanted to confirm the results I was seeing because they seemed odd. Indeed, I was getting wrong info. The gaps are much bigger. Top 10 spread over more than 3 min.

Off to SS Knon now, hope to have reception and an OK spot to show todays stage as well :-)

About toyota my opinion remains the same, a village nationalistic team of assorted nobodies with no future in this sport.
I agree with that apart from the last sentence.
The car is clearly good, probably better than we all thought, but it's too early to say how good.
The all-Finn driver lineup looks a bit dodgy but they're all good drivers and apart from that Makinen hired experienced former MSport guys to design the car.

I can understand that from some reason a generally good car/driver combination does not perform in on snow. But I couldn't find how a dog of a car would be up there on a fast, bumpy, camber changing roads.
Please tell some technical reason why it can be like this...

I think that yesterday Ostberg rally2 retirements just in case of running order. If he stay on road and lost 2-3min, he must start 2nd today. And with rally2 he have good road position and he try to impress someone with fast stage times? But he definitely couldn't.

No, it have nothing to do with road position.
They needed more time on service to get a good service on the car and use the rest of the rally as a test.
