i did not like the event... not much driving and a lot of problem solving

Yesterday in the mud and fog was about driving (maybe not about highest speed)....and about other skills which are not always needed on WRC events. Recce was done in dry so improvisaton was key which is the spirit of rallying.
Today I agree with you - they are just cruising (except Petter) and sitting on the result

The true spirit of rally is struggling with difficult conditions. Events are made on godforsaken roads for purpose. If one dares to see flatout in perfect conditions he should watch any of the tarmac circuit series.

Rally: A test of driving skill and car reliability

Definition of a rally as listed in the 1980 Motorsport NZ Yearbook. I don't see anything that has really changed that over the subsequent years.

Sorry if this has already been posted but this is just an insane 'watersplash' for Rally Portugal!

I was there during the afternoon. This stage is used since 2008 and the river was more a less always like that. I supposed with the rain in the last 2 days the river was a little bit higher, but not too much difference from other years. JML stopped after the river and continue 5 or 6 seconds after, nothing against JML but I thought that I won the "jackpot" after walking for 3 km to reach this place. The gift came from Sebastian Chardonnet, he did me the favour to stop near me to change the front right tyre. He was the last car!

The interest is if Paddon can overcome all the missed stage penalties and get up into 2nd place He's only 50 seconds behind and has been taking more than out of the others every stage so, barring catastrophe, you'd expect that to happen early in the final day. The 9 mins to P1 is a stretch though.

So Matty's missing this rally too? This one would be right up his street with others hitting trouble.

Also, it IS looking like Hirvonen is the main title challenger to Loeb.

1st April 2012, 02:23
I have not watched any footage, but the condition described reminded me of Portugal 2001 (which is free to watch from WRC youtube channel).

Petter can easily pass Nassir, with some (inter)team order, he can be 2nd or 3rd, however, Mads didn't have to in Sweden so I guess he'll be 4th, if he stays on the road.

Last time I said Jari crash allows Petter to fight for the championship, now this just makes it more interesting. Also surprising to see Mikko leading the championship (if he wins this rally).

Probably worse rally for Ford since NZ 2009. Also Mads proved himself enough by now to be future driver for Ford I think.

Yes, in S2000 it is given by rules to be mechanical wire. Since new WRC are basically same I guess the rule is not different for them. I think the electronic throttle was forbidden in WRC cars in 2006 but I'm not sure at all...

It's raining heavily on the last two stages at the moment.
This will benefit Latvala, I think he has soft tyres (I don't know about the others) in this 2nd loop and he will start the powerstage first in the road.

Surely Sordo, Neuville and Solberg. Ostberg and Novikov will walk the stage, the question mark is Hirvonen if he pushes and the conditions are right he can at least get 1-2 points extra to extend his championship lead more.
