If Petter has no more issues or idiotic mistakes then he'll finish 4th at worst. he's only 4:30 behind Sandell and I'd expect him to make that up easily, especially with his road position. And I would be very surprised if both Mads and Evgeny get to the end of the rally without a problem! A podium is still very possible.

the thing is that conditions are the same for everyone so i see no reason why Latvala or solberg will not be caught again.... we will see...overall the rally is interesting but for the wrong reasons...

any news on the weather of tommorows stages ??
also do we have a starting list ?
Currently many rainclouds are queueing up to go to the stages, so, the night might be very wet again
Tomorrow is a tricky thing. Maps are a bit biased here. One one hand it looks like tomorrow will be much better weather. Somehow I think it is not fully correct. I expect first stage to be better, second stage little bit more rain and third the worst.
Afternoon might be better weather, only the third stage looks bit worse again. So, I expect drivers to use their softs for morning loop and maybe hards for afternoon. (because of the rain overnight).
Sunday morning looks dry, but afternoon looks like today. So, I expect the last soft tires to be used there. But the weather changes his mind like a lady, so this (Sunday) is not very reliable yet.

Rally Portugal leader Mikko Hirvonen criticises decision to cancal Rally Portugal stages due to bad weather - WRC news - AUTOSPORT.com (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98486)
I had two differing opinions after reading this:
1) Good on him for wanting to challenge himself even though he's now got the most to lose. If I was in his boots I'd be delighted they were cancelled and my lead still safely intact!
2) Complete ignorance and naivety towards the other cars - yes he could probably cope in these conditions, but the R2s and locals etc were massively struggling and going as far as getting stuck in water crossings. For these guys the stages just had to be cancelled in my opinion.
N.O.T
30th March 2012, 22:34
they did not cancel them for the crews they cancelled them because if something happened the emergency vehicles would no reach the area in appropriate time...
was a perfect decision... this was not rallying this was stupidity and tomorrow it will be the same.

I know that was the reason for the cancellation, but even without that reason, the stages were becoming literally impassable for some of the lower cars. In my view, and I may be alone here, for some cars to literally be unable to complete a stage due to high water crossings etc is absurd and the stage shouldn't count for that class. Obviously the struggles for the emergency crews mean there is an easy reason to cancel stages.

Can't explain it perfectly in english.
But if he don't turn to abruptly he maybe could back on the right, u never know..
I think we know what you are trying to say here, we'll never know, as he did not try it. In the video it looks too steep for sure, you would think he would try to parallel the road first and if it didn't seem like he'd make it then straight line down.
When it's like that they try not to stop the car, keep it moving, so to do that he tries going straight down. What bad luck, he goes off, runs over a pretty big rock, then runs through a ditch hitting a MUCH larger rock.

I can also understand Mousti's point. It's clear that Tanak attempted to regain the road without losing momentum (and time) and unless you're in the seat you don't know what he saw. With the benefit of video, and hindsight, there was possibly an opportunity to stop soon after leaving the road and back up ... I don't know so much about 'turning'.
One thing a bit of age & experience teaches you is that once you've left the road you've already lost time. Take a few moments to get a breath, survey the scene and make the best decision. Of course if he had have regained the raod it would have been a brilliant manouevre.
It's easy from an arm chair isn't it?

Someone mentioned earlier that because of the regulations you must use the same brand of tire through the entire rally. I think dmacks plan to compared their tire to Michelin on this rally will backfire as this isn't a usual condition so the data they will collect wont be overly relevant to the surface where dmack needs the most improvement.

He said that with slipery conditions is a question of driving, with more grip is a question of pacenotes. With slipery road would had pushed hard.

So far this has been a very fascinating rally, somewhat like events of past days, where tactical and sensible approach by some drivers has counted a lot more than outright speed. You need to know when to be slow in a rally like this, you must actually dare to be slow. Some drivers have managed to do that, they have calculated the weather and extremely difficult condition being thrown at them, and driven accordingly. Proper rallying shouldnt always be about outright speed, but the sprint events of later days has led us to believe that. I am therefore mightily impressed with Hirvonen, Řstberg and Novikov who has actually understood the challenges of this rally and driven extremely sensible to stay on the road.

Totally agree with you
