Looking at the Itinerary, I can't see any obvious innovations (significant new stages, etc). I wonder if the university stage will be a success? I recall it giving problems before.

I like the fact that the rally is as long as possible, and in fact is 740 meters over the 360 km limit. Often we see organisers not bothering to try and maximise the distance, which in my opinion just short-changes the fans.

I think Leg One will be the most significant of the rally, as it covers nearly 160 km of distance. Of course this means that the next two legs are much shorter, and the last leg isn't even 70 km, although there are two 30 km stages.

I prefer a Jordan or Monte Carlo style itinerary, but I suppose we can't always have those. Still, this one has good points.

By the look of things the Fords are ruling the shakedown, with fastest time for Latvalla(3'55"7),Galli (3'57"2) and Hirvonen (3'59"4). Solberg seems to be having problems, very bad time, while Loeb and Atkinson are in the 4'00"7 and 4'00"4. ;)

Barry build his own rally car:

...I work at M-Sport building these cars anyway – I know my way around a Focus! In fact, when this car retired at the end of day two in Greece (when Aris Vovos was driving it) I spent the next day preparing my own rally car for this event. The cars all have a fairly comprehensive toolkit with them as well.

Good to see Gigi doing well here, I guess the road remind of Italy, he was leading the rally in 2005. He had a 10seconds penalty otherwize would be leading as of ss4. But Latvala probably would take the lead soon, but have to see if he can stay there.

about PWRC:
44 Gabor Mayer did not start, why? Is he sick, like in Greece
54 Travis Pastrana did not start, why? If Travis is not ok, why teams second driver Ken Block is not driving?
Both were in original entrylist.

Subaru speed is not great.

I had not expected more from Subaru, Greece was more luck than quality. :s mokin: Even in group N the Subaru stand´s nowhere compared to previous years, therefore the new Subaru a top car? I am not convinced so far.

Shame Aava is out. Wow he is fast! Also shame for the puncture for Latvala and the dust in the car of Hirvonen. The gap could be bigger without problems.

The new Subaru is even for Atkinson a big problem. He is slower this rallies then he was with the old one.

Wilson is growing in speed. Great to see.

Could be on for a good rally - nice and tight as about 30 secs separates top 10!

People were asking earlier what problem did Petter have on S'down - he broke some front right damper or suspension or something. Not sure exactly what but it said it on his forum.

Don't count out Loeb as he will rerun the previous stages and though won't have to sweep anymore ;)

I think that there are quite a lot of sweeping still to come. The entry list is quite long and small two wheel drive cars make a mess on the road. And there are two new stages at the end of leg. I expect Latvala to have at least 30 sek lead by the end of the day.. if.. he keeps it together :-)

That's too harsh for me. This is still an extended test session - competing in a rough rally like Turkey is bound to identify a few issues that slow them down.

I think Petter's speed is in his head - he'd lost so much confidence in the old car that he wasn't driving it in the most effective way, he was just mad all the time - now he has one good result in the new car and is driving like the old Petter again.

Some stages suit some cars more, such as tighter stages or more open stages. Or even uphill/downhill. In stages in the last rally both Petter and Atko have matched times with the top 3.

Personally, they should have developed this latest car more before using it in anger. Just embarassing for them and the sport.

Atkinson retired due to broken suspension, and Dani damaged his too. Jari has puncture and tire wears and lost lead, but he has two spare tires, it's better if the Ford boys employ the same Jordan tactics and not start first tomorrow. If they end the day only a couple seconds in front of Loeb, then Loeb would likely can take the lead easily.

Petter should just cruise carefully to the end of the rally and wait for the rest to have problems.

It was the right thing to do celebrating their performance in Greece. They needed some morale boosting anyway. It was good to see Peter and the team smiling for a change...

Still is the 2nd outing of a brand new rally car and not the evolution of an existing one so lets be patient, teething problems are something normal anyway at this stage.
