Yesterday and the day before yesterday Citroen was testing in north Sardinia (Luogosanto) with Loeb the 1st day and Sordo the 2nd one.

They were looking for sun and dry conditions, like they will find in Portugal and then in May here itself in Sardinia, but they were not at all lucky.
They found a real storm, totally unsual for Sardinia, with heavy rain and even a bit of snow, so that Elena told: <<We went here to test for Portugal, Sardinia and Greece but we are testing for Wales!>>

But this wasn't the main problem. It was the engine problem Sordo had yesterday. He had to stop at 12 am and he was bale to re-start at 3 pm but he drove only for 300m and then he came back with further engine problems.

Obviously nobody of the spectators knows what happened to the engine of its C4 but they could notice this long stop and the further stop after 3 hours of work.

I wasn't there personally as I live 120 km far from the tests and I was busy with university but there was my cousin who refferred me what happened.

You're welcome!
It's a pleasure for me to share all the info I can have.

Unfortunately my cousin didn't have a camera with him, so he couldn't take photos.

But I sent a mail to a rally fan who is often at the WRC Teams tests. I'm waiting for his answer...hoping he was there too!

any tests? Citroen seems to be in tests these days...

Davide78
16th April 2007, 12:42
Oh yes!

After having tested in the north of Sardinia some weeks ago, last week Citroen was in the centre of the island with both the drivers, Loeb and Sordo. Unfortunately they were 200 km far from me and I had no time to go there....

I couldn't go to Subaru tests too...they were nearer, 100 km far from me, but, as written above, I was busy and I could go to see Petter....

This year there are a lot of tests here in Sardinia but unfortunately I'm too busy to enjoy them and also not lucky with photos or videos as the persons I know that were enjoying tests don't like to take photos or videos....they prefer to enjoy the tests show.

Yesterday I finally had time to go to Subaru tests, in the north of Sardinia.

You can find photos of them at the page
http://fotoalbum2.aruba.it/fotoalbum_rallyfans_it/index.html

There were Atkinson and Hagstrom testing. As you can see from the photos, the car looked very linear in its handling, even if the drivers were pushing hard.

About Ford, it's not in Sardinia at the moment.
Very probably it will come here in the very next future.

I didn't see the face of Atkinson co-driver as when they ended the tests and went out of the car I was taking a photo to the Australian driver, but I heard that there was Stephane Prevot.

However, not having seen him personally I can't confirm this!!
I can just report what I heard by some other guys that were at the tests.

'The Monster' recently won again the Race to the Sky hillclimb in New Zealand on board his Suzuki prototype. He had more than a dozen WRC outings in his career, but the guy is in his mid-50s, I doubt he will drive the SX4 himself. Tajima is president of Suzuki Motorsport.

It looks like Monster is running a one man show, with a single man in command.

When it is good, it can bee relay good (like with the mighty 206), but when it is bad it is real bad (like with the convertible with a four speed gearbox)...

Well... I'm not a finn, just pretending to be... but let me try.

So, first of all, they say that the team's test-driver Lasse Lampi had been testing the car for 2 days when Hanninen came to continue his work. Hanninen's opinion is that car has a good grip (keeps the road) on finnish gravel roads. Plus, he says that rain disturbed their testing sometimes, but the behavior of the car was good and reliable. They also made some changse in supsension' set-up, cause it has changed a bit since last year.

Then... Hanninen aims to get to the top-8 in this rally. He notes, that as he opened his points account on Rally Sardinia, he'll be aiming for points in Finland too. Also he supposes that the changed route of the rally is good for him, cause he doesn't have much previous experiense on jyvaskyla's legendaru stages, such as Ouninpohja. he'll try to drive the second (and also the longest) day of the rally carefully following the pacenotes.

Aren't all Finns kind hearted?

Tomi
4th July 2007, 19:07

Also he supposes that the changed route of the rally is good for him, cause he doesn't have much previous experiense on jyvaskyla's legendaru stages, such as Ouninpohja. he'll try to drive the second (and also the longest) day of the rally carefully following the pacenotes.

good translation, you begin to learn :)

So, if there're any big difference, we'll see only in Finland. But Malcolm Wilson told Seb must be frightened with the new Focus.

I guess Loeb's answer to Malcolm was "You kidding me, right? BTW, what kind of engeneers do you need in order to secure spare wheel, we may be able to help :) " :D

so does anyone know the differences between the 06 car and the 07 car?

WelshLegend

WRC07: Another front 'wing', a lot (power) inside the car. And hope faster then the 06.

I don't understand Mikko's quote. Offcourse they tested the 07 and 06 together. Ford do exact know what the difference is between the two cars.
Whay we know after Finland is: is the Focus fast enough to beat C4?

Whay we know after Finland is: is the Focus fast enough to beat C4?

1. Plus new rear 'wing', new front bumper, new back-view mirrors and new alloys (hopefully by the end of the season) - black and lightened.

2. yes. compared to the C4 I suppose.

At least some of the pictures posted here are cool. I'm just amazed to see Lapworth at the side of Petter for the rally. Maybe the "edge" will come back to Subaru or I may have too much faith in the Impreza. The gains made by Subaru at Acropolis were astonishing.

I agree. He's getting better and better on every tarmac rally. Spain 05 was his first podium. In Corsica 06 he almost makes it again. It could also happend on Germany 07 and some of the remaining tarmac rallyes this season.

I'm pretty sure he's eager for a podium place in Germany and I believe he has big thances of achiveing that result. It remains to see how the new Focus will behave on tarmac, but I believe it will do even better than the previous spec.

Despite stating that he want's to focus on Dani Sordoin order to help Gronhölm in the championship fight, but I believe he can get a podium place for sure, maybe a third position. Go Mikko!! :D

Gardemeister has done the Pirelli gravel tetss in a Xsara WRC a month ago, were Duval did the tarmac tests. Pykalsto is doing the Asia Pacific Championship, so maybe he had other obligations. Or Citroen is discovering that having a back up team with good drivers and good equipement canhelp them in the WDC and WMC.

Martin Prokop was today given his first run at the wheel of a Citroën Xsara WRC on a gravel road near Chablis, close to Auxerre in the Burgundy region of France. The test session was organised by Citroën Sport as a reward for the results obtained by the Czech driver within the framework of this year's C2 Junior Experience.
The Jipocar driver finished third in the 2007 FIA Junior Rally Championship, notching up two wins (Germany, Corsica) and one second place (Spain) with his Citroën C2 Super 1600. His prize, as specified in the regulations of the C2 Junior Experience, was a test drive in Citroën WRC car.
For Martin Prokop, the experience was an early Christmas. Despite temperatures that dipped to near freezing point (4°C), the 25-year old had no hesitation when it came to sampling the car that has secured three world titles in rallying's premier series: "I immediately felt at ease. In fact, the cockpit is laid out in a strikingly similar way to my Citroën C2 Super 1600, so I didn't need much time to familiarise myself with everything! The Xsara WRC might seem impressive from the outside but once inside I found it to be extremely comfortable and very quick, too, thanks to its good suspension set-up. It was tremendous fun and I don't think I'm likely ever to forget
this day!"
After the hundred or so kilometres covered by Martin Prokop in the course of the session, Citroën Sport's Customer Competition Manager Yves Matton was very pleased with the way the day had unfolded: "In addition to showing genuine professionalism, Martin didn't seem to have any trouble adapting to the Citroën Xsara WRC. We were delighted with the way he approached the car. I wish him every luck for next season. If he succeeds in finishing first or second in next year's FIA Junior Championship with his Citroën C2 Super 1600, it's not just a test drive he will win but the chance to contest one or two events with a Citroën WRC car, as stipulated in the C2 Junior Experience regulations…"

Interesting. Maybe he can achieve what is needed next year to get the big reward. I didn't know anything about this "C2 Junior Experience" but it's clearly a good thing.

Nice livery BTW. The livery (black, red and white) is similar to the one of the new C2 R2 Max presented a few weeks ago:

Not much, thay are amazed with the power and handling in the new car (06)compared to the old one (05) and call it "extreme". Mikkelsen also believes he will have to change his drivingstyle some in order to be competitive. They have driven the car for a 100 ks, and hope to be driving it for a further 500ks at full speed during the remaining two days of the test. The test are carried out close to RGB SS3
