Kubica: GB shunts won't influence 2014 - http://eurosport.du.ae/wrc/kubica-gb-sh ... tory.shtml
Quote:
CO-DRIVER SWITCH HURT CHANGES
The Pole admitted the tricky Welsh conditions were difficult, but it was the switch of co-driver that caused him the most upset on what should have been a landmark moment in his short rally career.
Kubica's regular co-driver Maciek Baran decided not to compete in Wales and when the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner could not find another Polish navigator, he took Italian Michele Ferrara.
Although Kubica speaks Italian fluently, he said the language switch made the rally very difficult. His second crash of the weekend was due to a misunderstanding in the notes.
"When you have very little time to know each other and everything comes at the last moment, you know it can be the a risk - but I tried not to think about it," he said.
"If you ask me for an expression about how I felt when I knew [about Baran's decision to quit], I was quite scared.
"I said to Maciek that if I continue in rallying then we have to commit to a minimum of three years. But it turned out in 10 months or less his decision was different and it put me in a really difficult situation.
"I don't want to blame this situation, but it didn't help with my debut in the World Rally Car.
"Together, Michele and I had a lot of very hard work. But I am happy with his approach. It wasn't easy, we put a lot of effort in to simplify things [in the notes], but we were not paid back with the best of luck."

Re: Wales Rally GB 2013
My WRGB
Much of what I would have said has been already covered. Ogier dispelling the ‘no good in UK conditions’ myth. Citroen looking like they were after the ‘inability to score in a bordello’ award. Neuville being amazingly quick in conditions that he had only as much experience of as Kubica, I suppose a settled co-driver helps! Elfyn doing his growing reputation no harm.
I’d set myself the target of attending the whole event on a tight budget so my routes, and hence the stages I attended, were carefully worked out and as a result of not using any of the official car parks I had to walk 20 miles in total over the four days of the rally. I found a very good walker’s hostel in Corris and had I known about it before booking the Travelodge near Deeside I’d have gone there overnight on the Thursday. The back road in Corris main street leads 1.5km to Dyfi stage.
Llandegla was not for the purist with its lack of real spectacle, but at least you could see 3 passes from all the WRC field with some nice sideways moments. As I always say miss Shakedown and you could miss seeing one of the contestants entirely – it was the only place I saw Kubica clearly (though he must have passed in the dark of Gwydyr)
Gwydyr was atmospheric and took me back in time, I was standing at the priority media junction so all the WRC cars were lit by many flashguns going off
Finally made it to the Pikes Peak section of Myherin, worth the trek and I’ll definitely go back in future.
On Saturday I went to the regroup in Corris where rally crews appeared to outnumber spectators giving some previously unknown level of access for photograph signings.
Spectacular drive over the hills to Dyfnant followed for Saturday / Sunday spectating. I decided that as I was on my own I’d skip Great Orme in favour of watching more at Dyfnant before the 4hr drive back to London.
Final impressions
Some people undergo personality change the moment a hi-vi tabard is worn
Wales’ autumn colours were fabulous this year
R5 is alright by me
Funny how all the Poles had disappeared by Sunday
Rallying is one of the best vehicles for promoting pan-european harmony – Talking to a boisterous crowd of Lithuanians in Gwydyr, one said to me how welcoming the rally was to foreigners. I agreed, pointing out that I didn’t speak the local language either!
35mm pics are currently at the lab so here a some of my digis for illustration

Where do people find the time to upload so quickly - still have my Dyfnant digitals to upload and my 35mm aren't back from the lab yet!!
You'll see I'm trying to work a few more landscape photos in to my photography as it captures the place and time better than just focussing on the car's movement.
Must start the Monte thread soon!Kris Meeke got fired -PSG so terrified they quit!
