I remember only couple of times where he showed something last year but mostly he was also nowhere

Let’s see how he will do on next rallies. He definitely must up his level now with full season behind him.

His case seems similar to Lappi, entered the series very strongly and debut rallies were impressive but doesn’t progress really after that.

He's not in the running for any points at this moment. He isn't risking everything, because he has nothing left to gain.

All he can do is set fast times to show himself, but he's doing the opposite.

That's not everything, he also needs to learn stages and conditions. Crashing now would be counterproductive on that regard, setting fast times would prove nothing to nobody, he's already has contract and can prove himself on rallies which he knows and can do well.

This kind on strategy would be smart, if he hadn't have been miles away with his pace compared to drivers with similar experience.
