    When all's said and done, the biggest winner of the day may turn out to be Elfyn Evans. Strangely.

    Of his main championship rivals, only Ott Tanak gained anything of significance today. The Welshman sits a comfortable fourth and, with the benefit of a comparatively favourable road position, should fend off any pursuers tomorrow.

    Yes a good day for Evans and starting first may not have been such a big disadvantage as expected. The drivers further back got more punctures than him (and Ogier) possibly due to more and bigger stones pulled out. Getting through without any is as good as setting top 5 times !
