If piston includes conrod length, that can change power and torque through geometry IIRC.

Piston means piston.

Software along with friction losses can amount to as much as 10 more hp.

If they go away from the traditional engine build philosophy you can free up many more HP, where as the usual brief is to have as much torque as possible for drivability. So if you go to add power there are many things within the parameters that you can change to achieve this.

Software is homologated as well.

I just read that the engine development 'freeze' was actually a freeze of the regulations, not of development of an engine itself within those regulations.
