Only thing I saw after Monte was that with the new fuel Skoda recommended engine rebuilt after every rally.

dirtfish refers engine problem only for Portugal,doesnt referes for engine at Sardinia.
First time i read the same article understood engine like you,but if you read carefully doesnt write someting about the reason of retirement at Sardinia.
