Is it legally possible to overturn this result.. or are the FIA really the Judge, jury and jailor?
Such a thing would be equally as controversial and damaging for the sport.

Verstappen follows destiny to become Formula One world champion
Issued on: 12/12/2021 - 16:52
Paris (AFP) – From the moment that Max Verstappen joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2014, there was an inevitability that he would one day become Formula One world champion.
That it came in the shape of a sensational last lap sprint in Abu Dhabi on Sunday which toppled seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton from his throne will make it even sweeter to the 24-year-old, the first Dutchman to wear the crown.
"My goal when I was little was to be a Formula One driver," said Verstappen after the finish in Abu Dhabi.
"You dream of podiums and victories. But when they tell you that you are world champion, it's incredible."

Verstappen celebrates his race victory and championship triumph
Max Verstappen branded his last-lap World Championship victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix “unbelievable” after he snatched the title from Lewis Hamilton in dramatic fashion.
Verstappen overtook Hamilton on the last lap following a controversial ruling while the race was yellow flagged late on, and stormed to take maximum points ahead of the Brit.
“It’s unbelievable. Throughout the whole race I kept fighting then there was the opportunity in the last lap, it’s incredible,” said Verstappen.
“I don’t know what to say. My team and Honda deserve it. Finally a bit of luck for me. I also want to say thank you to Checo (Sergio Perez), he’s been a brilliant team-mate.
“My team know I love them I hope we can do this for 10, 15 years together. I don’t want to change ever. I want to stay with them for the rest of my life, if they will have me.
“I’m so happy. Our goal was to win this championship when we came together and now we have done that.”
Verstappen’s title triumph will go down as one of the most remarkable in F1 history, coming as it did in the final lap of the final race.

Max Verstappen and his girlfriend Kelly Piquet shared an emotional embrace after he won his first F1 world championship at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
The racing driver, 24, snatched Lewis Hamilton's eighth victory after he overtook the Brit on the final lap of a thrilling and controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Belgian-Dutch sportsman Max could be seen hugging his model and girlfriend Kelly, 33, after stepping out of his car at the end of the race.
She looked overwhelmed as she made her way to her partner to congratulate him on his triumph.
Max's win came after Lewis led the entire race and was in total control after overtaking the Red Bull driver at the first corner, but a controversial safety car gave the Dutchman the opportunity to snatch the title away.

Max says Mercedes protest ‘sums up this season’
Date published: December 12 2021 - Jamie Woodhouse
Max Verstappen says the protests Mercedes have lodged after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix are typical of this season.
Asked by Motorsport.com what he thought of the protest, Verstappen said: “Not much really to say about that. I think it also sums up a little bit this season.”
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitted he was disappointed to see this course of action from Mercedes, but stated the team had put their “trust” in the FIA.
“We are disappointed there has been a protest, but we trust in the FIA,” he said.

Yes, Verstappen has been kicked off the podium before. The FIA can restore the correct order of the classification if provided with sufficient proof that the regulations have been contravened. It doe not matter who contravened the regulations since it would include anyone that has unfairly benefited from the contravention.

I don't think that has to go that far. It goes the high courts, criminal investigations would also be conducted and it could be very disruptive and damaging for the FIA and the F1 management. It would be cheaper and a quicker resolution to fire the entire Race Control team.

Final decision in
That Article 15.3 allows the Race Director to control the use of the safety car, which in our determination includes its deployment and withdrawal.
That although Article 48.12 may not have been applied fully, in relation to the safety car returning
to the pits at the end of the following lap, Article 48.13 overrides that and once the message “Safety Car in this lap” has been displayed, it is mandatory to withdraw the safety car at the end of that lap.
That notwithstanding Mercedes’ request that the Stewards remediate the matter by amending the classification to reflect the positions at the end of the penultimate lap, this is a step that the Stewards believe is effectively shortening the race retrospectively, and hence not appropriate.

We maybe have to reconsider Neuville's pace on high speed events. Now when he had a more competitive car, then the speed was speed there, previously the Hyundai was just so bad and it didn't give him...
