    Yes, I think this is still the case in most duos. Nicky Grist said it best, he demanded that he was contracted to the team and not the driver. If something happened with the driver, he could say we has still ready to codrive and the team had to pay him anyway.

    Yes I heard a podcast with him being interviewed by Chris Harris (3hrs) which was very good, and they touched on this topic because it was a hurdle to getting him out of Schwartz (Mitsubishi) to go to Kankkunen (Toyota) in ‘93 when Pironen became sick.
    Indeed I think he had to go back to Schwartz for 1000 Lakes and Giradet took over for that rally.

    I find the value appalling aswell but in the great scheme of things they might be able to work outside of co-driving aswell. It is not a full-time job perhaps.

    Total speculation:
    It might be that Neuville's standing at Hyundai is slightly worsening. It seems that it's mostly Tanak's input being used in development in 2020 and the car is no longer "for Neuville only" as seemed to be the case with Paddon, Mikkelsen and Loeb. Compared to these 3 Neuville could argue that he was winning rallies from the start with 2017+ Hyundai so it should fit him. But when the current champion came and struggled they started to listen to him instead.

    One thing is the mental pressure, another is if they changed some salary terms (Adamo has certainly shown he is flexible when it comes to contracts). Either of these or both could lead to him wanting to cut salary for Gilsoul.

    I would imagine salary-related things were negotiated already months ago. A last minute change like this must involve some sort of a conflict.

    not if Gilsouls salary is payed from Neuville.
    If Gilsouls salary was payed from Hyundai,yes that would be fixed before they announced their lineup for 2021
    But i dont think is salary related.It would be totally comic,or a wanted reason to part their coperation

    salary difference is still way too much for this (reducing from millions even to 800/500k is more than enough to pay 30k. different is if u reduce to 100k, but hard to think is this the case...)
    and still think this kind of decision come in similar time and way as of Sordo for ex, not that sudden and late (after pet)
