Ref. Ogier, he could have worn down the tires out on purpose before the stage that way he goes into the SD on soft tires with close to no thread (=slicks). That would certainly be an advantage (Sordo had this in Portugal on friday).
Other than that on these stages more rubber gets put on the track for later runners as well.

Maybe they should put some work into clearing away some bushes to make for better viewing, too many places to hide and too little space for everyone to see without being tempted to taking risks. I didn't feel lucky after a 3cm rock knocked the sun screen off my LCD screen and just missed my face so tried to stay safe the rest of the day...

Finally got to watch the first stage.
Personally I'd rank it as one of the best SSS of this year, much much better than Turkey, Germany, GB and even the Portugal city stage.
Why:
- relatively wide areas between the tight corners (for example right before the tight hairpin), so drivers can actually position the cars instead of driving on rails and then using handbrake
- low barriers so you can see most of the car most places (germany SSS was terrible at this with the very high haybales)
- fountain/steps background

On related note there was really a lot of dust on the road, so road cleaning effect + rubber, surely helped later starters.Last edited by mknight; 25th October 2018 at 22:40.
