The cars usually don't crash on straights. You won't lower down cornering speed by downgrading the power. If You want the cars to go slower remove the downforce.
Maybe the sport needs to learn the lessons of NASCAR and downforce, especially the effects that result from loss of it when going sideways of backwards.
