it only shows differences in gearbox ratios. you can tell nothing about the engine based on top speed.

Also you must remember that ’09 and ’10 are among WRC less competitive seasons, with only 2 teams and Loeb’s total domination, while IRC was getting rally world spotlights. Tacking MC rally out of WRC calendar was one of IRC brightest moves and hugely helped to strength their series. Fortunately, after Todt get elected as FIA president one of his priorities was to put back MC into WRC.
Yes, three, sorry I would say that Monte was out of WRC in the time when WRC was in very bad shape and therefore needed Monte Carlo more than now. Anyway I justed wanted to say that it was a bit of overstatement to say that WRC without Monte is impossible.

Actually you can. Normally You don't run longer gearbox with weaker engine (unless it's completely different design, i.e. has completely different characteristics). See R5, S2000 or even gr.N where cars with stronger engines have also higher top speed.

In case of 2017 I would say that the main unknown factor is drag force from the aero package.

It would be interesting to know where the difference come from. The speed gun may be badly calibrated for sure but who knows how good data WRC+ has? Eurosport used to show simple GPS data in IRC and those were not very accurate (the value was shown with a certain delay and not 100% smooth).

For me it's very hard to believe that 2017 WRC cars would have smaller top speed than 2016 cars and even than some R5 cars (Fabia has a real top speed roughly 195 km/h).

Road condition and configuration also may take some effect.
About WRC without monte... yes, there could be one, but not without some alternative series/rally. There is always a place for such challange.

Not really a surprise. He is a former winner of the event...and was 2nd in 2014.

Is there a better sound than that of Porsche engined Flat-6 ???
