Despite 1st day tragic incident (and permanent troubles with spectators all along the event), the rally was quite interesting, with proper MC winter drama.
Neuville did a remarkable job, putting Ogier into pressure and being mega fast on 1st and 2nd day tricky stages, but sadly wasn’t able to control the advantage, loosing concentration on the worst possible moment. Tanak heroic effort to keep a podium place was epic, and he proved he can be much more than just Ogier’s team mate. Breen did also a remarkable rally, showing he’s the one that should be driving the C3, alongside Meeke.
Congrats to Ogier, Ingrassia and, obviously, to Mr. Wilson and all MSport staff. Great job from Makinen and Toyota’s guys; the Yaris showed a nice pace and even if it seems to be the slowest, for sure it isn’t that far from the faster cars. Hope Matton is already making a proper reflection on Citroen’s disastrous rally; we need them fighting for victories, not just for PS points. Outstanding win for Mikkelsen in WRC2; it’d be great to see him on a ‘17 Polo!
Final thought: MC is a unique and iconic event, there’s no way WRC can go on without it, but, once for all, the FIA, the organizers and local authorities must control spectator’s behaviour. It’s not easy because it involves a mentally change, but it can be done if a proper plan is set up, like it was done in Portugal.Rally addict since 1982
