I was waiting more at these type of stages and his good road position.Probably the tyre isn't up to Michelins pace.

because he says so, and splits confirm it:

A terrific start from Ott - up on Paddon at the opening split - but he completes 14sec slower. "I tried to push hard in the beginning but later on it got hot and we lost the tyres. Then it was frustrating but I tried to do my best." Current air temperature at the stage end is 25˚C.
