When there are only seven events and there are strong drivers like Evans or Sunninen one puncture or accident can cost you big.

Could it be that they will count points where the two drivers were one against the other? In that case Suninen would win having arrived ahaed of Evans in Poland and Finland. But I don't know if this is an actual rule.

Same rule as in the full WRC:

For drawing up the final classification of a Championship, the rule for deciding between drivers and codrivers
who have scored exactly the same points total shall be:
10.1.1 According to the greater number of first places, then second places, then third places, etc.,
achieved in the final classifications on their respective Championship, counting only those rallies which
have served to make up their points total;
10.1.2 According to the greater number of highest places achieved in the final classifications on their
respective Championship, counting only those rallies in which each of the drivers and co-drivers concerned
have taken part, one 11th place being worth more than any number of 12th places, one 12th place being
worth more than any number of 13rd places, and so on.
10.1.3 In the event of a further tie, the FIA itself will decide the winner and decide between any other
tying drivers and co-drivers, on the basis of whatever other considerations it thinks appropriate.

So reading that I take it to mean that AL14 is correct - and that it would take into account their 'face-off' scores effectively. I think?

For sure the FIA are correct to change the rules next year and make sure everyone faces off at least 3 times.

Yes they should face off more. Evans and Suninen drove one against the other only two times....

Three events that everyone has to drive is a step forward, but I would rather see FIA name, let's say, eight 'WRC2' events and have everybody allowed to enter all eight, but only six best scores count.

The current system is just too messy.. as well as the problem of competitiors not facing each other, you get weird anomalies like Tidemand in Germany who scored a good result but couldn't count it because he hadn't nominated the event beforehand.

Certainly it is not let's say 'optimal' at the moment. But I quite like how there is always a WRC2 battle at every event as it gives fans something else to concentrate on, especially on the long-haul rounds or if the main WRC battle is a bit boring.

Clearly there are strong levels of interest in the championship so I think maybe it's best not to shake things up too radically.? Flexibility can be good for privateers. With Hyundai coming in and Toyota following soon with R5 I think it's in a good place competition-wise.

Again the biggest problem for me comes back to the coverage. Right now the amount of WRC2 screen time is as low as it's ever been. Certainly nothing has been done this year to improve things. Not a great platform for the future top WRC drivers. I keep coming back to it but WRX has this all sorted out and great coverage for the Euro and support championships. We know all this footage is being shot by WRC cameramen. They clearly don't have the time or space in the TV programme to show much WRC2. Fine.

They should put out a dedicated 45min edit on YouTube on the Wednesday after each rally. Or at the VERY least do more on social media with these guys. When was the last time you saw Teemu Suninen or Lappi interviewed on main WRC coverage?
