Yes, he was (almost) without a chance. Why: because Basso scored in the 2nd half of the season 55,75 points, Andreucci on the other side "just" 40! If this is not a clear proof that Basso was on a charge, unbeatable, than I can not help you to understand this simple mathematics. All what was left to Paolo was waiting for technical troubles for Basso or retirement due to driver's error....
Ok, enough of "crying"...what worries me (this should be addressed to R5 topic) is year 2017.... All PSA drivers are going to be totaly uncompetitive.

If Andreucci didn't crash out in San Marino, then likely he would've been the champion.

Edit: Congrats to Basso, deserved it after many years of struggle with heavier car, small budget, etc.

It was one of the most exciting championships around Europe. Congrats to Basso and also to Andreucci for this fantastic fight. Ucci underperformed a bit on gravel rallies, but overall he did another remarkable season and Peugeot Italia managed to prove (again) that a well prepared 208 can be a title contender. Hope they’ll be there next year.

    Well deserved win from Basso.
We interviewed him at the end of the rally and it was clear he didn't realize it yet. But you can clearly tell that he was an happy man.
He told us that it has been a very struggling year, it started with some issues but then went better. At this last rallys he wanted to win day1 in order to take it more easy on day2. He won on saturday and today he managed it right behind Ucci. He told us also that he had a spin at the beginning but of course he didn't care about the rally just to stay close to Paolo and bring it home.
    He succeed.

As an Ucci fan of course I would have liked to see him winning but really, I'm happy for "Giando". He deserved to be in a more performing car after two years with the "heavy" GPL Fiesta...
Ucci also criticized the new point scoring system (he won the same amount of rally of last year... but I think it is not the right time to do it, even if he congratulated with Basso.)
Anyway I fear Ucci will never win 10 championship with that car... Let's see what will happen next year. For now Cheers to Basso. Again well deserved win.

Yes, it will be very hard for Peugeot bit it's not something that concern me. It is motorsport. Ucci had his "advantaged" years in his 208 now he is on the other side. It's normal. For me, he remains storically the best. But yes I don't think he has chances with that car.

Yes, of course, I know the difference between Fiesta evo and P208, but Andreucci is still damn fast, he won the rally, and is second in the championship, just 2 points behind Basso, so I wouldn't say he was without chance.
