“It was strange. I started to brake and something broke. I lost the back of the car and had a big spin on a straight. Something was broken at the front and I couldn’t fix it for the next stage. All I could do was straighten the steering,” said Tänak, who dropped almost a minute to plunge to 10th.

***According to Yle Ralliradio the spectators weren't allowed to help Bergqvist up from the ditch. The guys with gloves and towing straps were not happy...***
Why, new rules or just not wanting to help a Swede?

Probably something as stupid as spectators not allowed to walk on the road up to Novikovs jump 1.5 hours before the first car. Safety is good but it doesn't have to go to extremes.
Lappi reporting deep ruts with stones coming up on the first run of some stages. The second pass will be interesting. For once, I've got a good reason for not doing anything productive at work.

Yeah. Well I've noticed that trend in NORF the last couple of years. We all know that the plastic ribbon protects you from big dangerous rally cars. If the ribbon fails then you can feel comfortable knowing that the 1000's of spectators bunched up like sardines in the same spot will soften the hit.
Sheikh Al Qassimi questioning the placing of wooden poles inside of some corners to prevent cutting.

What's the best site for splits / times... WRC & Rally-base both slow.

Tanak took the risks the others talked about and made up some time even on this short stage.

It seems that rumors are getting stronger that Yuki will be gone at the end of the year. The way that second seat eats up drivers it wouldn't shock me.
