If they don't believe that the car would be competitive it's logical that they chose not to support it. For manufacturers rallying is marketing and for good marketing You need good results. The other point is that novadays Mitsubishi presents itself as a kind of alternative brand more environmental friendly than the others. For this picture they don't need rallycars anymore.
