Thierry Neuville said before the rally that his aim will be to be in the finish of this rally. I think it is better approach then previous years, when he was very quick but also very soon out of the road.

He never finished in Monte, so maybe he is trying to finish for first time and not searching for any limits.

So, basically I can understand that kubica was driving smootly and pretty safely. Ogier was slower because he was trying to create big cuts via the snowpiles and other corners. the point here is the fact that he do not need to be faster than Kubica he just needs to make the life harder for those behind him ;-)
