3 of the quarter finalists weren't seeds. Both France and the Netherlands came from Pot 4 and Costa Rica came from Pot 3.
And it's also true that none of the 8 quarter finalists finished 3rd in the group stage either.
The 8 quarter finalists were ranked: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11 & 31.

It kind of seems a little obvious to me that group winners should survive into the quarter finals because presumably, they played better football. You don't win the group by not winning games and you don't make it to the quarter finals without winning the match in the Round of 16.

So, it's not the seeding - it's just a question of which teams are on form.

Even though I don't like Germany, I was really impressed by Neuer who actually played as a sweeper.

I do actually have some grainy footage of a club match, where Higuita runs up into the opponents penalty area and dives for a Penalty. (This is with the Goalkeeping Gloves on)
